You obviously missed how Obama positively did say that he was raised in a racist family.

Is it possible that you are projecting your own family history unto Obama? Perhaps you have unresolved issues that you need to deal with. Whatever the case may be, my take on things is that Obama will win this election despite the colour of skin, and certainly not because of it, by transcending the barrier of race. There will always be hysteria surrounding historical change such as the one we are going to witness. But in the end, it's for the best, you'll see.

Yeah,... Honesty...scares the hell auta ya,don`t it?

I think the actual point is being missed by many i think it is interesting that in general we never assume the other side of the coin. We assume that whites are racists and everyone else arent i think thats the main pointto be taken from this. It is interesting that so few people mention the other side whether its in politics or employment or whatever it is almost bigoted to assume that only white people can be racist yet it is something so many of us seem to think.

WOW!

Someone got the point of this post and didn't get caught up in the OUTRAGE of the AUDACITY to even suggest the possibility that minorities might be fueling the race issue as much or even more than white people.

Why would anyone want to mention the flip side of this coin?

Just take a look at the ridiculous extrapolations and misrepresentations of what I have written present in this thread...

Now if I had been black and broached this topic....

I thought it very telling that this was as hard to find as it was. Being a child in the 60's I had to privilege of seeing Martin Luther King lead a march that went right by my school in Trenton. Every class was there, and coming from a school that had no black students and from parents who still were racial biased I stood in wonder of a man who dreamed of a "color-blind society" Now that concept is being trashed by the very people and causes that Reverend King rallied and dedicated his life to obtain. Ultimately leading to him sacrificing that life.

It seems that the media is not willing to confront, or even speak of the possibility of  black racism . Yet were this racial trend obvious or even contributory to a McCain plurality I'm sure they'd rediscover their passion reserved for what is seen as racism by Caucasians. Then again what we are observing regarding Governor Palin tells you that unless a liberal agenda is served you can't be a feminist either. I do appreciate the consistency.

How interesting that the last line of my post was completely ignored. In reading the article you linked the statement that "90% of blacks are voting for Obama mainly because he is black" was part of an email sent in by a reader! There has been no poll of black voters to find out who they are voting for and why. The writer of the column then did a brief poll of her own and 3 of 4 people she asked are voting for Obama, but state it is due to his policies, not the color of his skin.

Also, the title of your thread is "Obama wins because of racism!". I pointed out that even if 90% of blacks voted for him, there would still be an automatic 4 to 1 vote against him due to racist whites. That means the election will be decided by those non-racist whites and other minorities who will vote based on his abilities, not the color of his skin. I don't know why you are arguing that racism will play a part in Obama's win (because you obviously don't have the science to back it up), unless it's because you can't stand to imagine that a black man might be the superior candidate. Now THAT's racism!

I'm ignoring responding to your posts because your too caught up in reading what you want to read instead of trying to comprehend the greater point of the whole thread which colouredin (thankfully) got.

If you were, then I am sure you would notice statements like this...

quote:

Now if you ask me, I would think that 90 percent, assuming this statistic is accurate, of a minority not voting for someone because of race would be a more outrageous issue then 6 percent of a majority not voting for someone because of race.

But for the record, I really hope that Musicmystery's article is right and I am completely wrong. I really want to beleive I am living in a country where the first black president was voted into office because of his character and politics and not because of his skin color.

Sound like the words of a bigot hating the idea of a black man being a superior candidate?

It's called a "What If" thread...

I can't provide the science if the people who do the polls aren't concerned with providing it as opposed to making sure we all know how many racist whites out there are aren't voting for Obama...

no i have no unresolved issues from my raising as it pertains to my race.  you see when i was a very young woman i realized that i am an american, not black or white.  what matters is my love from and for my family, my happiness and my self worth.  i have all that, love, family and a successful career.  i earned every damn bit of it.  not because of my race but because of my determination and my hardwork.  i do not believe that i should share my success with others below me.  i believe that the others below me should do as i have done all my life, work hard and earn it!

now no matter where i go, i pass and find i am accepted by both black and white people.  yes, i have experienced racism from both sides!  but i will tell you that the racism from black & white is not the same.  neither is more or less.  but one side is more hateful and vendictive.  i am a pretty smart old gal.  i understand what is happening firsthand.  i want no part of it.

black racism is real!  i have firsthand knowledge.

Lorr47 -> RE: Obama Wins Because of Racism?! (10/15/2008 9:14:59 PM)

I am from the deep south. I grew up in racism.  Some folks will never get over it including the other side.
I can report that my 95 year old lead by faith grandmother put in her absentee ballot yesterday, and she said, "I want to vote for Barack Obama."
I have never been so blown away in my life.
I have to vote now.

He will go in regardless because I personally think Bush has killed any hope for the republican party to go in.

The more McCain talks, the less this election will be about race.  I could not care less about race at this point.  I hate Cheney/Bush so much that Obama could be green for all I care.   I have voted republican most of my life, but never again.  My partner who could be called a racist until recently, now feels that Obama is the only choice out of self interest and for the future of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. To me this election has no symbolism other than throwing out the republican liars, thieves and militarists.

candystripper -> RE: Obama Wins Because of Racism?! (10/15/2008 9:42:53 PM)

I think many people are hysterical at the thought of a Dem in the White House -- and the fact that he's African-American gives them the fits.  I think they know Obama will win, probably by a large margin, and this is all a build up for the 'he won because he's Black' bullsh*t' we'll be seeing Nov. 5th.

candystripper -> RE: Obama Wins Because of Racism?! (10/15/2008 9:46:24 PM)

I don't think 'Black racism' really exists....yes, there is animosity against whites by some African-Americans, but they have never had the economic or numerical power to overwhlem and repress and otherwise defeat the life dreams of whites.

it is not about what names Barack Obama is called.  it is about what he believes, his judgement and his plans for this country.  is he truly good for this country?  does he honor and respect the constitution?  is he a patriot?  when he sees the flag, does that give him a sense of pride and does he know what the flag symbolizes?  is he truthful with the american people?

since Obama spent 20years in a church where a pastor, who was his friend and advisor less than 6months ago, preached hate for America and white people it makes me wonder what is the true answers to these questions?
i have sat in a church and listened to speakers just like Rev Wright's.  with all that in mind the possible answers to the questions i listed above, scare the hell out of me.

Although I can see your point and respect it, the one thing you learn by getting old like me is that nothing is perfect.  I view Rev Wright as largely irrelvant when faced with the actions and beliefs of Bush, Cheney, McCain, Libby, Ackerhof (sic), Reed, Nyquist, Graham (sic), Foley (hypocrite), Craig (hypocrite),  and thousands of others whose scandals have rocked this country for 8 years.  I guess the best example:  Who is the greater evil, the president who has a girl perform felatio in the oval office because he likes it or the president who condemns  4,000 men and women  to die for no apparent reason.

And how many times have you posted the same link?  And how many times has it been debated?

I think you can stop posting it now.

I'm pretty sure I have it memorized.

Hopefully you memorized my responses to it so I don't have to repeat them as many times as you do this link, which seems to be the only thing you can find to defend how the party of "fiscal responsibility" managed to take a thriving economy and a budget surplus and trash it all in eight years.

I`m starting to understand all the fuss about ACORN`s registering of millions of voters.

Only now starting to get it? This has been GOP strategy since Obama became the clear nominee. They know he is an admirer of Harold Washington, who became mayor of Chicago through a very efffective voter registration drive and get out the vote effort, and that he ran a voter registration drive that got Carol Moseley Braun elected to the Senate. They knew his organization was going to register lots of new voters. The GOP's only hope was to suppress as many as possible.

Damn republicans...trying to surpress the right of ACORN to register fraudulent voters...same old tricks from the Grand Old Party... Fifteen states so far questioning false registrations....Shame on them!!

Check in after the elections and see how many actual fraudulent registrations were submitted. I'm betting you'll deny it is anywhere near as lwo as it will be.

oh i totally see what you are saying.  just one thing.  all those you listed are small compared.  like i mentioned, i have witnessed and heard firsthand the hate preached in some of the black churches, like Rev. Wright's.  the hatred for white america exist.

Obama is black??????????

Then everybody forgot to blame his success on Affirmative Action.

Geez. This country IS in serious trouble when you even have to help the bigots.
