Update, Oct. 16: ABC News reported that Wurzelbacher may actually qualify for a tax cut under Obama's plan, and not a tax increase. ABC reported on its Web site the morning after the debate that one of its reporters, Chris Bury, had spoken to Wurzelbacher and that he "acknowledged that he wants to purchase the plumbing business for $250-280,000, not that he would net that much in profits." ABC news quoted him as saying he would make much less than $250,000. If that's correct, then Wurzelbacher based his complaint on a misunderstanding of how Obama's tax plan would affect him. Earlier, Wurzelbacher appeared live on ABC's Good Morning America program and repeated his complaints about higher taxes, but anchor Diane Sawyer did not ask him about his expected profits or question whether his taxes really would go up. We await further clarification.

Imagine that, John McCain's campaign putting such a huge spin on something it is damned near a lie. I am shocked.

I think Joe's problem might be that he just doesn't like paying taxes.  Any taxes.

That was never a part of the question, Joe admitted early on in this debate that he made far less than $250,000.00

In fact, he said as much in one of the videos that I posted in this thread. What the debate is about is, when Joe does make that much, if he works his ass off to get there, what gives Obama the right to put a government boot to his throat and force Joe to hand it over so that Obama can go out and buy votes with it.

Yea.......Joe might have; but that is not how McCain presented him to the American people in the debate.  So keep the spin alive GOPer's

Sanity -> RE: Joe The Plumber: Obama Tax Plan 'Infuriates Me' (10/16/2008 12:55:44 PM)

This really isn't about Joe the plumber, or even John McCain, so much as it is socialist politicians pandering for votes with stolen money. Using all the weight of the federal government to force people to hand over however much Barack Obama decides they should.

And you know what, it would be nice to see the media go out and investigate this unknown Barack Obama guy a little, at least put half as much effort into looking into his past as they do trying to dig up dirt on someone like Sarah Palin or this Joe the plumber guy, in other words anyone who dares to question a Democratic nominee.

Then why did McCain mention him 22 times last night?????

Sanity -> RE: Joe The Plumber: Obama Tax Plan 'Infuriates Me' (10/16/2008 1:02:54 PM)

The debate itself is about tax policy, regardless of who is used as a given example. What Obama said to the guy, about how he's going to "spread the wealth around" if he's elected. In other words, vote for me and I'll play Robin Hood for you.

How that's wrong - how that is stealing.

Yea you keep that dream alive...  The spin is dying with all the facts

Sanity -> RE: Joe The Plumber: Obama Tax Plan 'Infuriates Me' (10/16/2008 1:14:34 PM)

The only spin here is dedicated to trying to erase away the fact that Obama practically said he is going to buy votes with money stolen for him by our government. How he was bragging in public about how he is going to "spread the wealth around".

That's a bad move on his part, a lot of people don't like that.

Sanity,

I'm just trying to figure out why YOU would be for McCain's plan. Are you somehow pulling down $250,001 + at your job? Are you worried that maybe, as a "fat cat" you just aren't taking enough away from the middle class?

If anyone is putting a "boot to the throat" here, it's the top 2% of income earners in the country, stepping down on the poor and middle classes.  They take that wealth they've scammed from us, and they don't "trickle it down" as Reagan thought they would. There is no incentive for them to do so. Rather, they seem to be taking that wealth they've amassed and taking it overseas. Sure, it helps the family living in abject poverty over in India, or China, (among other countries) but it does nothing to support the system that made them wealthy in the first place. Or, they establish on "offshore address" for tax reasons so that they don't have to pay anything. Sure, hard working Americans have to be gutted for their income, but the huge multinationals end up not paying a cent. Worse, it weakens the American economy in the long run.

I don't know about you, but I'm really tired of this republican "redistribution of wealth" to the uber rich, leaving the rest of us living hand to mouth.

My God, do you acturally read the BS you write?

Sanity -> RE: Joe The Plumber: Obama Tax Plan 'Infuriates Me' (10/16/2008 1:32:46 PM)

You may get back on your feet now, and you really don't need to refer to me as your god.

Regarding the argument at hand, though - what part don't you get. Watch the video, Obama clearly says he intends to "spread the wealth around."

What does that mean to you.

What it means is that Barack Obama thinks that he's Robin Hood and that life is some kind of a fairy tale - and in reality, things just don't work that way. He's preaching about a coming thugocracy and he's promising the little people anything they want in exchange for power, and he is demonstrating that he doesn't care how he gets it. Stealing is no thing to him, no thing at all.

I will pretend to go along with Obama's tax plan, keeping in mind it is a plan and he can only propose it he cannot unilaterally create it.
So we raise the taxes on the " Joe Plummer's " of the country. Fair enough, take his money and give it to the " little folks". So now the Joe Plummers are feeling the crunch and some will fold their businesses, but more likely " the little people" will absorb the tax hike anyway. Joe Plummer will raise his prices to offset the tax hike, and the " little people" will be paying $350 for Joe Plummer to come out and snake their toilet.

In the meantime, my big strapping 40 year old next door neighbor who is on disability for some unheard of mental condition, who consumes a 30 pack+ a day beer habit ( $ 700/month ), who was given a mortgage for $ 1250 with condo fees of  $ 300, whose only income is his SSI check for $ 950 is facing forclosure and can't figure out why he " ain't getting some kind of funding to help me out of my bind" will be given some of " Joe Plummer's cash to drink up.  Guess who my neighbor is voting for ? He can't lay enough praises on Obama, this tax plan has him drooling like a dog. More money for contributing absolutely nothing to society. And he is just one of a good percentage of Americans who will get this money.

Keep in mind I am a Libertarian so ANY taxation is against my core beliefs.  I work two jobs to keep a roof over my head and food on MY table, not any one elses. If I chose to help out the less fortunate it should be at my discretion, not the governments.  Not a popular position around here, but there it is.

I just like how everyone seems to forget we are under the GOP tax Plan to save us all.  Gee it is working so well.  Thank God the rich are investng in this counrty

Irishknight -> RE: Joe The Plumber: Obama Tax Plan 'Infuriates Me' (10/16/2008 1:55:32 PM)

I like the way that everyone forgets that it wasn't only the rich who got tax cuts and checks.  I made less than 50k the past 2 years running and I got a check.  Its incorrect to say that the money only went to the rich.
If you got a check and consider it to be a bad thing, send me that money.  If you got a check and then want to bash the "rich who got tax cuts and stimulus checks" you are both a hypocrite and a liar.
As to whether its working or not ... duh.  When the people get money and fuel it into foreign made trash at WalMart instead of putting it into things that support Americans, it is not ever going to help.  The greed of corps, given feet by NAFTA, is then fueled by those it hurts most and is then ignored by those sworn to help them in Washington.  That is what has created this problem and what will perpetuate it.

bipolarber -> RE: Joe The Plumber: Obama Tax Plan 'Infuriates Me' (10/16/2008 2:01:35 PM)

What does that mean to me? It means more money will be staying in my pocket, Captain Obvious!
But, boo hoo hoo, the rich bastard earning over a quarter of a million a year might have to give one of his 11 or fifteen homes... and maybe someone farther down the ladder will have enough money to have a crack at owning one for a change.

Actually, my measly check went right back to them. Imagine that. Somehow the $1,200.00 that came into my household just doesn't seem worth getting excited about when I know what kind of tax cuts big corporations get.
