Sanity, Joe does not seem to grasp the fact that the US has a progressive tax system...not a flat tax....and has had since the passage of the constitutional amendment which permitted the income tax.  Why should a wealty person pay a higher percent of income in tax than a poor one?  Because it has always been felt that it was unfair for the poor to bear an undue share of the burden.

Joe is, in short, an idijit.  At least about tax policy.

Awesome! So we both understand you want to fight discrimination with discrimination and punish success!
I have no clue what you do or don't understand, and I would not want to hazard a guess based on your postings here....just saying.

Well, I guess when you run out of arguments, all you have left to do is try to make them look "silly" [;)]

Well, since Obama expressed support prior to the House Vote to reward failure with 700 billion dollars, it's not all that big of a stretch to find that his tax plan punishes success.

Since I keep seeing this reward failure, punish success phrase parroted over and over I know it must have come from one of the conservative talking heads like O'Reilly or Limbaugh.  Do you guys ever come up with an original thought of your own or is that the reason why you listen to these windbags in the first place?

I digress though.

What I really want to ask is if you are aware that it was George Bush that proposed the plan to reward failure?
You know, that Republican guy in the White House?

Did you also know that the other Republican guy that wants to replace him in the White House also voted for the plan to reward failure?

Except what Obama's raising taxes for isn't to pay any bills, it's to "spread the wealth around."

He wants to play Robin Hood for four years. He wants to be "popular" while spending other people's money to get there.

You don't think that a prescription drug benefit brought to us by the conservative right that forces all Medicare participants to purchase a drug benefit regardless of whether they need drugs isn't wealth redistiribution from seniors to drug companies in its own right?

Robin Hood is not new, nor is it a 'feature' limited to the left.

Of course!

But...hey...picking the lesser of two evils is the way to go.

At least, we won't see a repeat of the past event of such lines of thought such as "A Person In Every Home!" that brought us to where we are right now.

I'm kind of amused by being stereotyped. (You lefties sure love to do that. That's how you came up with "White Privilege"!). I'm actually pro-gay marriage and pro-choice, but the rest of my views tend to fall in line with the conservative perspective since they mostly represent my own inner values. You know...personal responsibility, personal achievement....stuff like that.

I simply don't want a President who agrees with the idea of "sharing the wealth", because it comes right around to this bullshit socialist agenda of "economic fairness". Everything has to be "fair". You earn more money than me via your own personal accomplishments? Oh, well, we can't have that! You own your own house, but I don't? Bring on the sub-prime mortgages! You discriminate against me? Well, we'll discriminate against you!

It's not the actual details of the tax plan that I have a huge grind against or it's comparison to the tax system as it is now, but rather the line of thought behind it that produced it. A line of thought that brought us....

Social Security! God, I wish I could keep that money out of every check and devote it to my own retirement account and disability plan without the wonderful added bonus of government waste consuming half of it!

Welfare! Another stunning achievement!

Affirmative Action! Combating racism with lowered expectations, discrimination, and portraying minorities as inferior? FAILURE!

The Unfairness of Not Being In a House! Thanks for the economy!

With such stunning social successes to boot, why won't I see the light and abandon my "lemming ways" of following around Rush Limbaugh! (Psst....don't tell my rich white Republican Protestant buddies (Another stereotype for ya), but I watch and listen to liberal commentators as well)

Actually, you know what...fuck it...we're already nationalizing the banks and housing industries....bring on the tax cuts...I will need them to afford gas and food next year when inflation from 700 billion dollars rolls in!

OBAMA 2008!

It gets even "better" than that. Various reports are flying around that Joe's dad is Charles Keating's (yes, THAT Charles Keating) son-in-law and was a senior VP in the company that ran Keating's ill fated Lincoln Savings and Loan.

What a soap opera!

None of that really matters. He is simply a guy with a limited understanding of Obama's plan who supports McCain. His questions and assumptions aren't odd or out of place. He understands polical policies on a very limited basis and his opinions are just that, opinions. He's just literally "some guy". The fact that he was pulled into a political debate was a tactic to gain middle class support that seems to have failed miserably.

slvemike4u -> RE: Joe The Plumber: Obama Tax Plan 'Infuriates Me' (10/16/2008 6:39:44 PM)

As a complete aside...just watched John McCain at the Al Smith dinner....and he killed ,he was funny he was gracious he was full of grace and charm.....

Sanity -> RE: Joe The Plumber: Obama Tax Plan 'Infuriates Me' (10/16/2008 7:20:16 PM)

Wow, in just one day our fabulous media has dug deeper and found out more trivial facts regarding Joe the plumber then it probably ever will about Barack Obama.

Ain't that something?

Joe the Plumber isn't the point,it is the fact that McCain made him a poster boy for how Obama's tax plan would hurt a hard working want to be business man....without ascertaining Joe the Plumber is actually none of these things...is this what we want from our next President...a supreme inattention to details.Sanity don't you have the right to expect your candidate to get at least a few things right?

Owner59 -> RE: Joe The Plumber: Obama Tax Plan 'Infuriates Me' (10/16/2008 7:31:30 PM)

I heard an impartial analysis that said under Obama`s plan,Joe would do better.

I have no doubt though that Joe the plunger would cut off his nose to spite his face and still chose McCain`s plan.

There are millions and millions of middle class voters who have been tricked for years to vote against their own interests.

The GOP can`t count on that for much longer.

Owner59 -> RE: Joe The Plumber: Obama Tax Plan 'Infuriates Me' (10/16/2008 7:36:26 PM)

Umm,I just heard that Joe the plumper doesn`t have a plumbing licence.

Is this true?

If that is the case,"Joe" can no longer be called a plumber.

He`s a handy-man.

What else is "Joe the plumber" not telling us ?[;)]

Yeah, saw that too.

This was the McCain I used to like, even if I didn't agree with all his policies.

Wonder where he's been hiding?

Aint that the truth,I would have voted for McCain 2000 in a minute. This McCain I wouldn't vote for with a gun pointed at my head.

Don't you ever wish they would tell us all about this mysterious Obama guy sometime?

But I guess I'll get what I can take, and sit back and relax and watch as they dig up all they possibly can on this Joe guy from Ohio.

Sanity isn't it a shame your candidate didn't "dig up"all he possibly could on Joe the Plumber, before he made him his poster boy for the last debate.Same sort of mistake he made with his V.P. selection ....huh?
