It does comfort me. All though naturally If there wasa nything I could of done or gave to make him healthy an keep him here, well I would of given it. But since there wasn't well then, I gave him peace.

I'm so sorry you had to let Sparky go. I let my Sophie kittie go on Friday too. She would have been 20 years old Nov 8th. I haven't gone out to bury her yet today. I will soon but I really don't want to. I'm putting her under my cherry tree. She's the first pet that was ever just mine. Her long  fur was a beautiful black that took on a sable brown cast in the sunlight.
She had been in the hospital since Monday and wasn't progressing. I held her in my arms when they used the IV line for her last shot. It was peaceful for her. I'm so glad she is out of her pain.

I hope the knowledge that Sparky isn't in pain anymore comforts you. I hope all your good memories of Sparky will give you peace.

Yes. I gave him the peace and comfort he deserved after years of being a loyal buddy.

I am so sorry for your loss, and glad that Sparky is not suffering any more, and I know it meant a lot to him to have you there.

While reading the posts of those who have shared about the loss of their beloved companions, I am reminded of the following poignant piece written from the perspective of a dog to its owner:

TREAT ME KINDLY
Treat me kindly, my beloved friend,
for no heart in all the world is more
grateful for kindness than the loving
heart of me.

Do not break my spirit with a stick,
for though I should lick your hand
between blows, your patience and
understanding will more quickly
teach me the things you would
have me learn.

Speak to me often, for your voice is
the world's sweetest music, as you must
know by the fierce wagging of my tail
when your footsteps fall upon my ears.

Please take me inside when it is cold
and wet, for I am a domesticated
animal, no longer accustomed to the
bitter elements. I ask no greater glory
than the privilege of sitting at your
feet beside the hearth.

Keep my pan filled with water, for I
cannot tell you when I suffer thirst.
Feed me clean food that I may stay well,
to romp and play and do your bidding,
to walk by your side, and stand ready,
willing and able to protect you with
my life, should your life be in danger.

And, my friend, when I am very old, and
I no longer enjoy good health, hearing
and good sight, do not make heroic
efforts to keep me going. I am not having fun.
Please see that my trusting life is taken gently.
I shall leave this earth knowing with the last
breath I drew, that my fate was always
safest in your hands.

I’ve been avoiding coming back to this thread because I didn’t think I could take the heartbreak, but I had to pop in one more time to again offer my condolences.

I feel your pain, and currently just had my best buddy (a 14 year male cat) diagnosed with diabetes. He is on insulin and doing well, but also has kidney disease which I'm sure will take its toll eventually.

Hi slave j,

I posted previously about my sisters 13 year old cat Pyewacket whose pancreas failed more than a year ago.
If you need any tips or have questions on caring for a diabetic cat I have it down pat. What to eat, what you need to do if its high or low.  You need to keep him away from cat food with glutens, which ditches the majority of available canned cat foods. There is several other things you can do,so if you need help feel free to msg me on the other side.

Pye also has a mass in his lung, so his time is near.  Thought it would be this weekend but he rebounded a tad bit.

I moved from Texas to NYC specifically make sure someone was here all the time to keep an eye on him.. Plus we have always been connected from the first time we met each other.

But feel free to contact me if you need help or pointers or otherwise. Sometimes just little things can level them out without a trip to the vet.

The best thing to do is hold him, love him, cuddle him as he peacefully leaves this world and goes over Rainbow Bridge. Someday you will be reunited.

My prayers are with you for tomorrow you lose your best buddy.

I adopted two cats and i have tears streaming down my face right now thinking of you and when it is their turn. I will be there for them when it is their time. That is my responsibility as their Mom.

Oh gosh... please accept my condolences.  Your strong memories of sparky are precious.  We can still hold a strong love in our hearts even though we can no longer see or touch.

I'd been avoiding getting another animal companion because I really didn't want to go through that again.

I understand your feelings...It took me 5 years before I could even think about another companion. Not only was I afraid of the pain of losing a love one again but I felt getting another dog was somehow disrespectful to the memory of my Rosie.

I'm glad I got over it...even though I did have to feel the pain of death again...I got another 12 years of unconditional love. Now I'm still morning and it will be awhile before I get another...but I will.

Butch
Exactly. Not long after, my ex-wife and I split up, and I eventually got a couple housemates. I specifically asked for dogs in my ads on Craigslist, and my first housemate was an HIV+ guy who was in my German class at the Goethe Institut. He had two doglets, one of which was a Jack Russell, and Caesar and I became best buds. He'd tuck Joey in and then come sleep with me, jumping up on my bed and getting right up in my face and staring at me until I lifted the covers so he could crawl into his little cave. Tore me up for about a month when Joey met someone and moved to Colorado Caesar and I had really bonded. And K.D., mixed chihuahua and something, (about 35 pounds) would play with me but not Joe.

Now I've got this little mop, and it really is better having a doglet than not. His personality is coming out. He barks at outside noises and is becoming more playful. Little bugger, every time I get up from lying on the couch to do something, zoom! he's right up there. Little bugger.
