Only one Kennedy has been president, although two others have run--Robert in 1968, and Edward in 1980 (defeated in the primary by Jimmy Carter).

Well pa ,off the top of my head lets see how many peon's I can name who left an indelible mark on the world with their infamous act's....in chronological order...John Wilkes Booth....Lee Harvey Oswald...James Earl Ray....Sirhan Sirhan...Mark David Chapman......Hinkley....though he didn't succeed....the Brady Law was a consequence.I know this is just a partial list, and is extremely American centric...but you get the point.

They all killed white people I see.  lol.

It would not take down the grid today.  The grid is intertwined into international money and power. It isnt like one man is actually calling the shots.   There are committees and talking points, think tanks, foundation, non profits, .

The peon did get in the way as you noted.  :-)

LadyEllen, there are thousands if not millions of hate mongers and "nuts" in the world.
That was the point of THIS thread.
They are here, they live around and among us, and there will always be evil and hate filled people in this world.
That was the whole point of this thread![8|]

The world is filled with many evil, hate filled people that hate people based on race, gender,

skin color, orientation, religion, "lifestyles" [;)] and a multitude of factors.
[sm=banghead.gif]
That is a fact which is NOT changing or going away!
Another point IS, how much place and attention are people going to give them?
THEY want attention!
That is why I would not post any of the negative racist crap I see being put out

here about Senator Obama, nor will you find me posting on very low level
activities.

I agree that hate groups are around...

everything we hear in the media is planned for us. to gain our complicity.  we are the lucky ones.... for now.

We aren't in the same place we were in the 60s, mike. Tensions were high in the first place---including riots and violence.

LadyEllen -> RE: Senator Obama to President Obama! Expecting the never-ending racial attacks! (10/18/2008 9:59:07 AM)

I know the reality MzMia; but it doesnt stop me hoping against it.

Sadly though, I disagree that ignoring it will make it subside. Its certainly easier and less personally risky to ignore it, but it has to be confronted in one way or another.

Some (unwisely I think) confront it with protests - this is to misunderstand the nature of those who hate on racial grounds - they seek such confrontation and are only emboldened in their beliefs by it.

The only real way is to change one mind, one heart at a time with patient understanding of why they hate - and its never anything much to do with the colour of someone's skin or their religion, but more about their personal history and psychology.

All self styled white supremacist nazi types I have come across can be talked down; theyre generally angry at the world in general for their own failures and misfortunes and are projecting that anger at targets someone has provided for them. I wont pretend to have personal acquaintance with every such person, but its 6 out of 6 so far on my analysis of them.

MzMia -> RE: Senator Obama to President Obama! Expecting the never-ending racial attacks! (10/18/2008 10:03:34 AM)

I am not advocating ignoring real risks and widespread threats or activities.

I am talking about posting and remarking on every idiot racist that puts up  a webpage,
caricature, or spreads racist rants about Seantor Obama.
I fully expect tons of threads in which you can "chat" about racial slurs and comments.

At the end of the day, is it going to change those involved, or stop the hatred?
I do realize, many ENJOY debating on racial slurs, remarks, caricatures, etc.

For those that enjoy those debates, you are going to have plenty to chat about for
a long time.
Unless you are discussing how to change these people, curtail these events, the media, or
what they are doing, legal implications, increasing penalities,
etc. I don't see much benefit in said discussions.

I personally whould be SHOCKED if I don't start seeing more of the sleeping vermin waking up,
and the scum of the earth becoming more active and energized.
As I said in my OP,

Is anyone really surprised?
I quickly tire of typing about how "sad" I am that these people are still around, many of  us
knew they damn sight never left or went away.

if done as confrontation - no, it wouldnt be productive.

careful selection of target participants to work on, even in such circumstances, can be productive however

I don't give a damn that Obama is black, and I tire of people continually bringing it up.

I strongly support Sen. Obama because he's an excellent candidate. He's smart. He's an efficient manager. He keeps his cool. And he has sensible policies, while both recognizing realizing them won't be a cakewalk and simultaneously laying the groundwork for those discussions/debates in order to show their worth to people with opposing views.

He knows how to lead, and can inspire people to cooperate in this poisonous atmosphere. And even while trying to build his career, he had the courage and backbone to stand up and oppose a stupid war when everyone else was waving flags and lining up to walk off the cliff. He listens to people and advisors from all areas and convictions.

He's a president. And I'll be proud to vote for him---because he's a superior choice, and exactly what we need.

Race has nothing to do with it. For example, just as I respect McCain, I greatly respect Colin Powell---but I wouldn't vote for him as president.

Termyn8or -> RE: Senator Obama /President Obama! Expecting the never-ending racial attacks! (10/18/2008 10:26:36 AM)

There was a time when I would say that I would not want a Black President. I still don't, but circumstances are upon us. The White Man founded this country and was the most influential in it's development, at least in the good years of the past. Logically this would indicate that a White Man would be best at preserving and supporting the ideals upon which this country was founded. But now it seems nothing could be farther from the truth.

As an admitted racist, but with my own definition which does not include bigotry, I am White and I am voting for Obama. This is unprecedented because I have a great disdain for liberals, democrats, their ideas and ideals, and policies. It seems like they want to be my Mother. Damn, everyone wants to be my Mother, except my Mother !

The reason I choose Obama is because of what is good for the people. I have heard enough of the rhetoric to know that McCain cares mainly for the rich. His ol boy network has done enough. I welcome Obama's new ol boy network because I am hard pressed to find any way that they could be worse. Even McCain's best rhetoric seems to imply that he think he is going to bel ected by the rich, possibly mailing in their absentee ballots from yacht clubs all over the world. Sorry, but that's the impression I get.

I will fully admit that McCain might be marginally better at handling certain affairs, but it is the overall attitude that turns me off. Obama said it "trickle down, it didn't work". He has expressed a desire to stop the hemmorage of jobs from this country. The only idea McCain has in that regard is to invest in new energy technology, which does not exist yet and therefore has no profit potential in the near future. Ever get behind on child support ? The judge will tell you "that kid has to eat EVERY DAY, not just when you can afford it". Either one of them, if they don't do something to make it attractive to have industry and business here, they have failed.

Perot was right, you make more money making computer chips than potato chips. But there is a middle ground. That middle ground was occupied by the middle class. We need to make our own mass market items, and God forbid, possibly even sell some of them abroad ? Fancy that notion. I don't care who gets in, we just can't keep buying everything, we need to sell something. Admittedly Obama probably doesn't really have a comprehensive plan, but McCain seems to be totally ignorant of the problem.

Now for the race issue. I am a self proclaimed White racist, but not bigot. Finding the correct term for that has been discussed to no avail. I would never want to kill Obama unless he starts another war. I can't say that about GW Bush. And Bush is White.

If any of these crackpot groups go out and take Obama out, they are doing White people a great disservice. They prove that some of us are uncivilised and actually lawless little babies when we don't get our way. They prove that all they say about the White race being a great race is bullshit because we still do things like this.

What's more, they prove that they know nothing but skin color. In the end, peace is the only way. Can you imagine the backlash if the crackpots somehow did manage to assassinate the first other than white President ever to get elected in this country ? And I say other than white for a reason.

If you think about Black people in this country, they have come a long way. They were kidnapped from their huts or jungles or whatever and brought to a strange place where they were forced to learn language like animals, and work hard and get treated like animals. It was illegal to teach them to read for quite some time. Whites have built society for millenia, and now in a scant two centuries give or take, we have Black scientists, doctors, engineers, just about everything. One could say "Why not President ?". Indeed.

But then Obama is not that kind of Black person. His Father was obviously educated as he was able to travel. He was not plucked from a jungle somewhere. His Mother is White, so he is not really even Black. So where does the racism issue stand now ?

So I don't really know what "never-ending racial attacks" means. Constant assassination attempts ? Flyers and mail going out proclaiming that President Obama made a mistake because he isn't White ? If someone wanted to show their stupidity, I think that would be a pretty good way to do it.

Or would they show up at my doorstep and pass out flyers ?

I guess anything could happen so I don't know anything anymore. I'll go drink an eightpack of beer and then I'll know everything. Be back later.

LadyE, I would never want them ignored.
We often forget how people ignored groups like the Klan and the Nazi's for too long.
Evil spreads and thrives when good people do nothing.

Hello Mz Mia,

You posted what has been on my mind for a long time, since first hearing about his campaign.  The racist propaganda mongers and hate groups are already doing what they do best.  The Secret Service is going to have their hands full protecting him and his family, no matter the outcome of the election.  And the dark fears that slavemike mentions also cloud my mind when thinking of the potential social consequences.

With that said, stay positive and active in the political process, support rational people and fair policies and make your voice heard.  Be a force for fairness and equality and responsibility in your community and this country.

Peace out,

Vendaval

A quote from corysub
"And so people who are against Obama, against the socialist philosophy and "share the wealth" mentality are being defined as racist!  Old Joe Murtha, remember him...Iraq is lost!....came out saying that his area of Pennsylvania is full of racists!  I guess these are the same racist Pennsylvanians that Obama characterized as "bitter, gun bearing..." sic  whatever..
If you are with Obama you are true "blue"...if you are against him..you are "racist"...gimme a break! "

As always corey....can't stop being a Republican long enough to be a person? No one said that anyone not voting for Obama is a Racist....and those that think that way are as bad as those who think they shouldn't vote for Obama based on the color of his skin....I hope with all of my heart that those who think Obama would be assassinated or that the hate from those who see color first are wrong....
Murtha isn't the sharpest tool in the shed Democrat-Republican or otherwise.

And yet- Obama voted for the bail out. I do not know that I can vote for him because of that.

Is THAT the only reason?
What do you think would have happened without the bailout?

No one is perfect in the world, and we have no perfect candidates running sorry.
Screwed if you do, screwed if you don't.
Whoever wins this election, is coming into the worse economic times in America, in

80 years.
Do you think that is a great position to be in?
This economy is fucked up any way you want to look at it.
I can think of a million reasons to vote for Obama and about 2 to vote for McCain.
Count the costs, and then go vote.

The stupidity has started already - Obama supporters in a western suburb of Chicago have received death threats and racist epithets, simply because they have signs supporting Obama in their front yards. Now I will not be voting for Mr. Obama, because I don't think he's anywhere close to being qualified, but it is definitely not because of his race; I hope that when they catch the perpetraters they will prosecute them to the fullest extent possible

Thanks for the report mr.bob.
I am not surprised, having an Obama sign in your yard
could mean danger when he is elected.
I hate to say, I am not surprised.
The more many things change, the more they stay the same.
