Ba Bama's economic plan is not something new.
It has been done before .http://www.newsmax.com/insidecover/obama_new_deal/2008/10/29/145448.html

DomKen -> RE: Obama plan a blast from the past. (10/29/2008 10:47:20 PM)

Yes. It was done last year and the year before that and every year before that all the way back to the early days of the personal income tax. It's called a progressive income tax.

Dnomyar -> RE: Obama plan a blast from the past. (10/30/2008 4:13:44 AM)

Hitler and Stalin had good plans for the poor people.

Sanity -> RE: Obama plan a blast from the past. (10/30/2008 6:17:34 AM)

Thanks for posting that link vegeta.

It's odd that more people aren't aware that Obama's plan is the same frickin' plan that prolonged the great depression... and it's also extremely odd that so many people fear knowledge of that.

It's as though they're admitting that people have to be ignorant of such facts if they are to vote for their cult-of-personality candidate. It's like they want a faltering economy... they must figure they can cause a crash and just blame it all on Bush.

Question. The name thing...typo, or an attempt at wit or cleverness.?

i hate when i'm in line or in a store, and i hear people refer to the Latino store employee as "Consuela over there" or "Jose over there" as they roll their eyes and laugh... when that is in fact ,not the person's name, but a racially biased way of saying, "Latin person".  They are usually attempting wit and cleverness. I am totally lost here.  Didn't Bush and Paulson just push through a massive wealth redistribution plan from the middle class (via a deficit that will need to be paid off) to the wea;thy finance companies and the six-figure employees there?  I'd sure as hell LIKE to get some of that back with Obama's redictribution plan.

Sanity -> RE: Obama plan a blast from the past. (10/30/2008 6:42:41 AM)

Good morning lronitulstahp

I wouldn't get get too upset, it probably beats "Chimp-in-Chief" or "Monkeyboy" George... "Shotgun Dick" etc.

You know?

Oh dear, clearly you haven't seen all his other threads where he is trying too hard.    I'd say he's a bit of a wannabe [sm=AttentionWhore.gif]  M

Sanity -> RE: Obama plan a blast from the past. (10/30/2008 6:48:56 AM)

Except you won't be getting it back, Obama is talking about taking money from people who would otherwise be rewarding their hard-working employees with significant raises, expanding their businesses and otherwise growing the economy.

And Obama voted for that bailout package too, didn't he...

has anyone looked at the unemployment rate in the state of Rhode Island?  that state has the second highest business tax rate in this country.  WOW!  duh!!!!   80% of the businesses there employ 20 people of less.  guess what?

Obama's plan is to raise the taxes on small business owners.  will they survive it, i doubt it!!  Depression here we come!

thetammyjo -> RE: Obama plan a blast from the past. (10/30/2008 7:09:49 AM)

So did McCain. In fact, if you can remember that far back he called off his campaign so he could help push that plan through then discovered that folks didn't like him taking time off for that and went back to the campaign.

Obama isn't taking money from every business... in fact, pay attention to his plan and not to Republican rhetoric, he has plans for tax cuts for businesses that employ people in the USA. How is that not putting money back into the American economy and into the hands of Americans?

And how is McCain's plan (if you can call it one) new? Seems like basic Reaganomics.

So if you are looking for something new, vegeta, you can't look at McCain either.

bestbabync -> RE: Obama plan a blast from the past. (10/30/2008 7:14:16 AM)

Obama's tax cut for business is $3000 for every new employee they hire.  most businesses will never see that in a failing economy.  plus $3000 is a drop in a bucket even when the employee is paid only minimum wage.

LadyEllen -> RE: Obama plan a blast from the past. (10/30/2008 7:16:42 AM)

Rewarding their hard working employees with significant raises?

No. You dont reward people for doing their job - they get paid for doing that already. And they only get paid as much as the market requires of you to pay in order to recruit and retain them - otherwise your overheads get out of control, your costs overall increase and youre no longer competitive in the market and your business folds.

Expanding their businesses?

No. You can only expand your business if there is sufficient market available to do so - and generally the market is in decline. Couple that with the need of most businesses to borrow money in order to fund an expansion and that credit facilities are being withdrawn willy nilly, and few if any businesses are going to be expanding in the coming year or so but rather contracting or going out of business altogether.

"Trickle down" economics doesnt work Sanity - continuing to do the same thing and expecting a different result is not sensible. Rather what it has produced is the situation we're in now, with those in the position to be trickling down wealth to the remainder doing everything then can to make money on their money, with no real basis behind any of it and certainly little or no investment at home by which an economic miracle might occur as was envisaged. That there was no real basis behind any of their efforts is what has come home to roost now - a deck of cards built on shifting sand that is collapsing around all of us and hurting most those who were meant to benefit from the trickle down theory.

An adjustment to the economic base is sorely needed to put real value behind it all. One can yell all one likes about the "unfairness" of taking a little more in taxes from the excessive incomes of the super rich, but if that is what is required - and these people remember should have been investing that little more in investment at home these last eight years anyway but didnt - then that is what must be done.

And those at the bottom getting these tax receipts if that is what is to happen - maybe it might help them to break out of poverty and make businesses of their own that will expand the economy and increase employment. Maybe trickle up is the way to go? Sure as anything trickle down is not.

So you'd prefer nothing?

Just waiting around and praying something happens or giving more tax breaks to business that outsource jobs?

As I've said neither of these candidates were my first choice. I think both of them are a sign of the decay which has happened to our democratic republic over several decades.

One of them has plans and is willing to try and discuss them.

One of them only has attacks and attempts to pander to fear.

Of those two choices, because I won't vote third party (others are more than welcomed to do so), I know which I think is more logical and reasonable and less likely to continue the fall into less democracy and more fascism.

bestbabync -> RE: Obama plan a blast from the past. (10/30/2008 7:22:05 AM)

but Lady, Obama's plan is raising taxes not just on the super rich.  he is raising taxes on the middle class in this country.  the small business owners that earn $150,000 & up.  this coupled with crippled economy and the lack of loans from the banks, will for sure result in the closing of these businesses and then no jobs for the poor.
