I suppose that if McCain had promised to bankrupt an American industry you would be all sunshine and smiles with rainbows shooting out of your backside.

You are aware that McCain is for cap and trade and is fully aware of the ramifications that such brings to the coal industry?

"Sen. McCain, who favors cap-and-trade, has not yet spoken directly to the coal issue, or for that matter to the various ways that coal and natural gas can be liquefied and turned into clean fuel. But this could be an important political point for McCain.

Economist Jerry Bowyer has circulated a map of U.S. coal deposits that shows a proliferation of coal in key swing states such as Kentucky, West Virginia, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. Much has been written about Hillary Clinton’s ability to attract white, culturally conservative, working-class voters who have massively rejected Barack Obama. Various polls strongly suggest that McCain can capture as much as 20 or even 25 percent of these votes and thereby defeat Obama in November. But the Appalachian coal people may have a hard time swallowing cap-and-trade, which in effect would cap coal, their jobs, and their livelihoods."

This is one of the rare instances where both sides are on the same side.

No, you're wrong. This audio of Obama hasn't been available at all.

Um, sorry to say but yes it has.  To quote the San Francisco Chronicle:  " The truth: the paper's January editorial board session with Obama included comments about coal. The entire interview has been in the public domain, available on line to the public -- and to the McCain campaign -- since early January."  Look at the date in the link to the mp3 file, 1/17/2008.  The link to the Chronicle's response to this "coverup" can be found here:

And using Obama's own words aren't pathetic attacks against him, unless he's a pathetic individual.

It becomes pathetic when those words are consistently and systematically twisted and taken completely out of context in order to take voter attention away from the real issues because they realize that they CANNOT win based upon the issues.  Their strategy has become a desperate, last minute attempt to sling any mud (not even really good mud, BTW) and hope something sticks to Obama.  Every time I look into their claims I find much ado about nothing.  I haven't found truth in any of their accounts, and from the polling numbers neither have the majority of Americans.

He'd bankrupt the oil cos, banks, car cos and us taxpayers.

You mean, he may not be a friend of the oil industry either?

Oh well, the Chinese do everything else. They can surely develop the worlds' oil fields and sell us our oil too. Looking at their track record, I'm sure they'll do a better job with the environment anyway.  [;)]

It's nice to hear that an embarrassed SF Chronicle is trying to make amends by finally making the interview available now, but here's a link to "The full interview" in which Obama's threats to the coal industry were omitted:

http://bizzyblog.com/ObamaSFchronInterview011708.html

Had this news been public back in January, Hillary would have been hammering Barack with it. Barack Obama would never have won the primaries!~

To pretend that this is old news is just silly.

He'd bankrupt the oil cos, banks, car cos and us taxpayers.

Many banks and car companies are doing fine going bankrupt on their own but don't worry those great socialists bankers and those on wall street will straighten us all out. If any single pres. or policy could bankrupt Exxon, (almost $500 mill/DAY in profits) I don't want to meet him in a dark alley.

Bankrupt the banks and the car companies?

Don't look now, but I think they've already done that to themselves.

And the taxpayers are already being bankrupted to pay for their mistakes.

Sanity -> RE: Obama Claimed He Will BANKRUPT The Coal Industry (11/3/2008 5:59:23 AM)

And so the one industry that's doing okay, oil, comes under fire for the crime of making profits... at a time when we should be cheered by the fact that at least one American industry is a safe haven for good paying jobs and for our 401k money.

One could argue that environmental extremists (as represented by the Democrats) had a hand in delivering the latest blow to the auto industry through their efforts to choke off America's energy supplies. The skyrocketing gasoline prices hit Detroit autoworkers hard, and their jobs may be gone forever.

Second job!!  People better start worrying about their primary job in an Obama/Pelosi/Reid anti-business, increase taxes, controlled government. We are already laying people off because of the impact of the  Kennedy pushed minimum wage increase, and when the democrats take away the secret ballot for voting on unionization, companies will fold their tent and move to Ireland, Mexico..or everywhere else offshore.  The democrats party has never had an energy policy that made sense or a policy that would stimulate business, ..only tax, tax..and give, give...Pandering to and giving handouts taken from the most productive among us.  I define it as stupid policy...others call it socialism.  We are literally and figuratively going to be chasing "windmills" in this country with democrat control of the entire process should Obama actually win tomorrow.
Amazing, isn't it...Obama has been on the stump for two years, has raised over $600 million and is outspending McCain 10-1 to 100-1 in some states, has the support of major media pundits, and he is still within the margin of error.  More importantly...his supporters can only define an Obama administration as "change"..and have no clue what is in the heart of this man.  The refuse to accept his socialist resume' or are those remnants of the 1960's counter-culture who believe in his message of "change".

I still have faith that Americans will figure it all out and split votes.  I really can't see how anyone in business, any blue collar worker who treasures his right to a secret vote for union or no union could vote for this radical, smooth talker for Chicago.  It's gonna be an interesting Tuesday night....  "lock and load"....

Blah blah doom and gloom, yada yada yada.....

Psssst,..

In case you haven`t noticed,it`s already pretty bad.

Bush(and co.) has managed to destroy the auto industry, the housing industry, the financial industry, our military, our world respect and dignity, and any faith people had in the our government.

Enough!

Time for a new direction.

...the biggest concern should be Obama's habit of saying one thing to his elite movie star  friends in San Fransisco, and then the complete opposite when he's talking down to his hard working supporters in the Midwest.

Now, Midwesterners are clinging to coal too, apparently. How can Obama's followers watch this Loony Tunes act of his and then buy into anything he's saying to them... it all depends on what's expedient at the moment, they're only words and they mean nothing to Obama.

Nobody has the foggiest idea who this man is, nobody possibly can - he's a two-faced liar.

Sanity (actually, everyone here), I have no love for either of the candidates offered up to us in this national election. I have no love for the majority of politicians. I consider that they are all extremely skilled at one of the most basic and fundamental traits of alcoholics and addicts: Saying one thing and doing something completely different.

Pitting one side against the other, or another, in our primarily two party system (were there any 3rd party candidates in any of the debates?), is a little like comparing a jonathon apple to a winsesap apple, while each side tries to convince people "that other apple is really an orange."

We seem always to be presented an "Us v Them" argument, and everyone points fingers and casts blame. Rarely are the questions asked, "Is it really an Us v Them," or "Are we looking at the right Us v Them?"

Perhaps it`s Obama`s refreshing honesty that`s got you all miffed.

McCain hasn`t played it straight once this campaign.Straight-talk express my ass.

Obama has been willing to hash out energy/pollution issues, taxes, the war on terror/middle east peace, job creation/labor policy,health-care,......all the hard difficult issues.

And all conservatives can come up with is petty sniping and creative rewrites of what Obama said.

And to completely make shit up out of the blue and character assassination.

Not a single honest engagement of an important issue. That`s by design,

This latest tripe is just one more example of that.

They can`t talk about the in`s and outs, pros and cons.Just a bunch of sreaming memies running around w/ their hair on fire.

lol

I suspect all this incoherent whiny/complainy/dishonest screaming won`t end, even with Obama`s election to the presidency.

OK. The polluter pays, that seems a rational policy to me. If someone shits on my backyard, I expect them to clean it up.

Are you suggesting that the coal industry cleaning up its own shit will make it go bust?
