<Wonders how many people are going into meltdown about that shock to the system from the -- O, the horror! -- election of an African-American man as President.>

What next?

Disability claims from people suffering 'election-induced PTSD"?

An African-American in the Oval Office isn't *really* the end of the world.  If you're looking out your window for the Four Horsemen, you can stop now and go get a bj/hummer/whatnot or something.

All I see is the repubs throwing shit at a shiny blanket, it aint gonna stick. but they are desparate.
The whinning has already started.... tis amusing.

I would vote for Obama, no doubt, but I almost hope he loses, let the repubs try and get out of the mess theyve created, heaven help us.

One could argue that environmental extremists (as represented by the Democrats) had a hand in delivering the latest blow to the auto industry through their efforts to choke off America's energy supplies. The skyrocketing gasoline prices hit Detroit autoworkers hard, and their jobs may be gone forever.

Bankrupt the banks and the car companies?

Don't look now, but I think they've already done that to themselves.

And the taxpayers are already being bankrupted to pay for their mistakes.

One could also argue the profits were in making $60k Escalades and not anything fuel-efficient.

One could also argue that the spike in oil prices was driven by the same speculators that created the housing bubble.

Sanity -> RE: Obama Claimed He Will BANKRUPT The Coal Industry (11/3/2008 7:57:22 AM)

This discussion of energy policy can only become 'racist' when someone here tries to claim that energy policy cannot be discussed due to Obama's race.

Corysub:
You have not been very specific in your definition of anti business.
Do you think making it illegal to employ children in mines is anti business?
Do you think that unions are anti business?
Do you think that not allowing a business to discharge toxic waste into the sewer or the atmosphere is anti business?
Do you think not allowing business to collude to fix prices is anti business?
Please feel free to be specific?

Hunter

There's a part of you that's absolutely giddy about the loss of American auto industry jobs, isn't there.

How many 'Trashing Palin' threads are there, and how many of those are serious discussions of policy, like this thread

kittinSol -> RE: Obama Claimed He Will BANKRUPT The Coal Industry (11/3/2008 8:07:44 AM)

And how many thrashing Obama threads had there been, until Palin reared her impeccably coiffed head? Obama has not made such a claim as the title of this thread suggests, and any suggestion otherwise is another shining example of attempting to derail real policy issues into mudslinging. Thankfully it'll be over tomorrow.

Oh wait, it won't be... people will have even more excuses to whine [&:] .

slvemike4u -> RE: Obama Claimed He Will BANKRUPT The Coal Industry (11/3/2008 8:08:10 AM)

Please explain to me any possible reason any American would be absolutely giddy about other Americans losing jobs in the auto industry. So far by my reckoning you have ascribed to Obama some sort of bias against the coal industry,as opposed to a quite understandable bias against pollution, and now you suggest that Rule has some unexplained bias against the auto industry.
Could you please give the rest of us a plausible explanation for these pecuiliar hatred's directed at whole industry's....they seem rather far-fetched ,don't you think?

Criticize every single thing Obama does, if he wins.

As will every conservative.

You think the campaign was ugly?  Wait and see what happens.

It'll make what Clinton went through look like a cakewalk.

What happened to the socialist thing?

shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh... now they are trying to convince us that creating alternative means of energy is a bad thing and that polluting is good. Don't confuse them.

If your dog is going to shit in my yard.. you are going to clean it up.  If that is going to bankrupt you.. get another pet.

Many members of my extended family built a good life working for the auto industry in its prime.

As usual though, you have no answers to the points presented to you and you resort to petty assumptions to belittle anyone who disagrees with you.

Ain't that the truth!!!!!

hlen5 -> RE: Obama Claimed He Will BANKRUPT The Coal Industry (11/3/2008 8:32:17 AM)

If we all acted as if what we did mattered to future generations, we wouldn't have to worry about so many of the problems plaguing us. Car manufacturing execs should have seen the long term benefits of fuel efficient cars, coal companies execs should think of the long term benfits of cleaner coal (IF clean coal energy is possible, I'm all for it), Wall Street should have realized the huge house of cards it was building with default swaps/insurance.
I'm all for business, but does it have to only look to short term profits and then say "Screw you, I got mine."?

Where is the LEADERSHIP that will make RIGHT choices?????

I understand Obama saying not "I" will bankrupt coal companies but they will bankrupt THEMSELVES with short term thinking and dirty coal energy.

slvemike4u -> RE: Obama Claimed He Will BANKRUPT The Coal Industry (11/3/2008 8:37:40 AM)

Why do you only worry about staying on topic on threads you start bashing Obama...but feel free to derail any thread critical of McCain or your current pin-up girl Palin?
