McCain hasn't said that he intends to bankrupt anyone who tries to build a new coal power plant though, has he.

Obama, McCain, Palin, Biden, Lieberman .. almost everyone (except George Bush & Dick Cheney) is in favor of cap and trade and want to transition away from dirty coal. McCain has made it very clear that he'd like to do away with dirty coal in exchange for Nuclear plants and clean coal and promised to pledge $2 billion towards research and technology advances to get industry standards within certain emissions specs. The policy's are the same .. the results are the same so the only thing that I can figure is that your issue is that Obama said it and McCain knows it but didn't say the word bankrupt? McCain said he wants to transition away from the coal industry which amounts to pretty much the same thing. Bush just signed in slush expansions for those dirty coal plants but he had to do it while Congress was out of session so they couldn't block the new policy. That slush expansion will be law in 60 days and whoever takes over the big seat will have to go through the process to get it repealed. Given McCain's stance on nuclear power and his support of clean coal, I can't imagine that he won't start the process if he's elected. McCain has zero love for dirty coal because he's all about nuke power.

Cory My friends give me their goverment cheese. It is a lot better than the oily store brand cheese.
So the car plants are down now. Whats new about that. I worked for Ford in the 60's and was off of work for 8 months one year because of changeover and slow sales. There was no sub pay then.

As far as housing being down. I remember in the 80's when lots of people were losing their houses. I saw builders abondon subdivisions.

We are in a recession. We have been in them before and will go thru them again.

I agree that we need a change. Obama has said the he wants the people to be involved and help him. Im all for that. McCain and Palin are not even on the same page probably not even in the same room.

That  "is" the Socialist thing. Looks like people in that industry are going to need their welfare handouts because Barry is putting them out of work.

Actually he did, by your and Drudge's standards.

Sanity -> RE: Obama Claimed He Will BANKRUPT The Coal Industry (11/3/2008 11:18:14 AM)

I wondered where you get your news... but even if the DailyKos WAS able to find a GOP Senator from coal country who doesn't like McCain's' cap-and-trade ideas, if they found a Senator from Ohio doesn't like McCain's approach to the coal industry, which favors clean coal... then he REALLY don't like Obama's plans.

Listen to Obama boast:

"What I've said is that we would put a cap and trade system in place that is as aggressive, if not more aggressive, than anybody else's out there"

Did you catch that? More aggressive than anyone's, and he also boasts that he will bankrupt them. In case you don't like the source, the video of Obama making those boasts is here.

Here's a snippet from and article on Breitbart.com regarding how this new revelation about Obama's real agenda are going over in coal country, USA:

quote:

Ohio Coal Association Says Obama Remarks Make It Clear: Obama Ticket Not Supportive of Coal

"Regardless of the timing or method of the release of these remarks, the message from the Democratic candidate for President could not be clearer: the Obama-Biden ticket spells disaster for America's coal industry and the tens of thousands of Americans who work in it. "These undisputed, audio-taped remarks, which include comments from Senator Obama like 'I haven't been some coal booster' and 'if they want to build [coal plants], they can, but it will bankrupt them' are extraordinarily misguided.

"It's evident that this campaign has been pandering in states like Ohio, Virginia, West Virginia, Indiana and Pennsylvania to attempt to generate votes from coal supporters, while keeping his true agenda hidden from the state's voters.

"Senator Obama has revealed himself to be nothing more than a short- sighted, inexperienced politician willing to say anything to get a vote. But today, the nation's coal industry and those who support it have a better understanding of his true mission, to 'bankrupt' our industry, put tens of thousands out of work and cause unprecedented increases in electricity prices.

Doww!Now I get it.

You think that this spin/got-ya is a serious discussion.

[sm=rofl.gif]

It isn`t.

Assuming that Barack Obama is elected tomorrow night...

And assuming that your logic in this instance actually flows...

Just how much crow were you forced to consume after President Bush was elected, and then re-elected again.

I say this because your post indicates that you are of the opinion that our elections always give us winners...

Senator Obama like 'I haven't been some coal booster' and 'if they want to build [coal plants], they can, but it will bankrupt them' Is that really sayin He will bankrupt them?

smilingjaguar -> RE: Obama Claimed He Will BANKRUPT The Coal Industry (11/3/2008 1:40:12 PM)

Hillary SHOULD have hit him with it back then, but that's one of many mistakes she made that cost her the nomination.  If she had attacked him on the issues instead of trying to make him the boogeyman, she'd be running right now.  If that didn't work for Hillary, I can't help but wonder why McCain patterned his attacks after hers...

I'm really sorry that YOU missed the reporting on his cap and trade system and its effect on coal and other highly polluting energy industries.  It's not anything new to people who look beyond blogs, limbaugh, and fox for their news.  Face it, McCain and his campaign missed a great chance at nailing Obama to the wall back when people's minds hadn't been made up by the economy.  It's sad, it's unfortunate, but it is just another piece of evidence that McCain's campaign and hence his administration would be poorly organized and ineffective.

It's nice to hear that an embarrassed SF Chronicle is trying to make amends by finally making the interview available now, but here's a link to "The full interview" in which Obama's threats to the coal industry were omitted:

http://bizzyblog.com/ObamaSFchronInterview011708.html

Had this news been public back in January, Hillary would have been hammering Barack with it. Barack Obama would never have won the primaries!~

To pretend that this is old news is just silly.

Bita, that's all well and good but what good does it do for the U.S. to spend money we don't have on all that stuff while China, India, Brazil and other countries have no pollution controls?
China is by far the world's biggest polluter.
And Brazil is right at their heels.

slvemike4u -> RE: Obama Claimed He Will BANKRUPT The Coal Industry (11/3/2008 5:41:11 PM)

So you believe we should try and lead the world in this dubious category.....or should we see to our own house so to speak, and than be in position to have something to say to others.

There is still candle light. It's cheap and he can't tax that.
Primitive though.

Slvemike, quite the contrary, I don't want to "lead the world" in anything!
Everytime we do that it 1. costs the U.S. Taxpayer money 2. doesn't work.
I'd like to see my government running *this* country like we elect them to do.
Clinton/Bush are the ones who believed in "intervention"/ "free-trade" in foreign countries.
And look where THAT's gotten us.

slvemike4u -> RE: Obama Claimed He Will BANKRUPT The Coal Industry (11/3/2008 6:09:16 PM)

Mike, of course not, who believes that?
I'm saying that China, India and other countries won't go to the lengths and expense that we do.
That's why things like that "KYOTO"  are a joke!
Imagine a Brazilian, Indian, Chinaman and American all in the same room and the Yank is the only one who's not smoking a ciggarrette.

P.S. the stockmarket is telling us which industries are going to be hit if that Obama gets in.
Look up some coal stocks prices and then look up their "52 week high, low."

BlackPhx -> RE: Obama Claimed He Will BANKRUPT The Coal Industry (11/3/2008 8:39:47 PM)

Sigh, more research. More misconceptions, more scare tactics, more atempts to evoke emotion and abandon thought. Logically, IF the government implements cap and trade restriction. AND the coal industries were so stupid as to not take advantage of alternative energy incentives to reduce of eliminate CO2 emissions. PLUS were so foolish to build a coal plant that had dirty emmission. THEN yes, the cap and trade would be crippling to the coal industry. But, to believe that would come to pass, would be to NOT believe in the innovation and hard work of the people in the coal industry. Frankly, I am tired of the democratic and republican fanatics insulting the american people and american business.

American people are hard workers, american business especially small business is the life blood of america strength. Workers who file taxes returns are not lazy or shiftless after all they have to work to be charged taxes to be cut and deserve it if they do get one. If you do not like the fact business owners reap the benefits between the price of labor and the price of goods....BECOME owners of business, buy stock in the company you work for, get together with your other employees and utilize the votes your shares provides and collectively work with management to make business work and force the top executive to be held accountable. Stop rewarding business that ship jobs overseas by not buying thier products. Wield the power of your pocket book as the weapon it is and business will bow before it. We are not victims, we are americans, we decide what state the economy is when we buy, when we expand business.  I am really really tired of both sides not being Pro-American, I am tired of both side not taking responsibility for the flaws in thier own thinking and being too stubborn to listen to the other side. I am tired of both sides trying to scare me into thinking it will be a catastrophe if the other side wins. Total governement spending is less then 1% of all economic activity even with all the bailout money being spent. Government is way to small to make a big differance, it is we the people who make the differance, it is us who have to make the differance. If we took care of ourselves and our nieghbors there would be no ability for  government to step in and become a nanny state. For a nation of christians, compassion and belief in our fellow man is too sparse and missing. We complain about criminals, almost all from single family home, from women who choosed to give them life and were abandoned by the fathers and thier christian nieghbors to lives of poverty, desperation, and reget. If we are losing our jobs, and rich wealthy men get away with the lion share of the profits, we only have ourselves to blame, not the Republican, not the Democrats. When Republican put the bone head tax cuts through that rewarded companies and investors to send wealth and jobs oversea, we only have ourselves to blame for not shaking the foundations of the capitol with the thunder of our collective voice. When Countrywide tried to sell us on subprime loans we chose to take those risks, choose not to read the fine print, choose not to invest in the skills of expert to explain the deatils and consequences of those loans. We The People are responsible for the state of affairs, we are reaping the fruits of fear, lack of faith, and lack of action we have sown.  But, I have faith in the american people, I have faith in our work ethic, I have faith in our innovation. I have faith enough people will stop focusing on the smoke and mirrors, and pay attention. We are rolling out in record numbers, and if we do it all year long, all the lobbist in Washington will become extinct and the senators & reprsentitives will shake in thier boots from our terrifying presence. If we do not then we deserve what we get.
