Iron, yes, the message is clear.
The English tried that "world citizen" crap by invading Ireland many moons ago and it ended up hundreds of years later with bombs being set off in buses in London and "Lord" Mountbatten being blown to bits one day while yachting.
And our cousins, the Scots wearn't too keen on the English either.
Yup, it's a "state of mind" alright.

There are no gifts, only stewardships. Part of that stewardship, biblically speaking (if you buy into that sort of thing) is being a citizen of the country you reside in. Governments were also a stewardship from God and we are responsible for being part of the system. Even Christ said to render unto Caesar what is Caesar's. He wasn't simply talking about taxes. Romans 13 is very clear about subjecting one's self to one's government as well.

From that same perspective, I find that Americans are pretty lucky. The government flows from the governed, not the governing body. It is our right (God given, if you will), to call our leaders on their crap and rebel against them when they act in a way that imperils our rights.

So if you are looking for God's will, then you will find there is indeed sovereignty based on borders.

Mankind is not one people, nor is it inherently desirable that we be one people.  We are people, period.

I was respecting the point of view that she was taking and responding from that point of view.

Now I agree with you and I would further point out that an armed society is a polite society. We are people with different views and ideas. Enforced limits keep everyone on the same page and aware that there can be penalties for infractions. The only difference between individuals and countries is one of scale.

Neither are armed societies; they are societies where part of the members are armed and the rest of their victims. They don't fit the criteria.

If you had lived in one, you would not have to ask for it. The experience would be enough for you. Just like if you have been hungry, you tend not waste food because of your experiences.

I have that experience and try to continue the practise. I dont need a gun to do so.

Lucy, I have Irish citizenship.
Ireland is a polite and fun society too.
And, it's regarded as an "unarmed" society.
But, everyone knows that there's guns everywhere.
That's why people are very polite and sociable over there, you never know who you might be talking to right then and there.

Status: offline 		My favourite pub was run by an Irishman, ran a tight pub, lots of fun, and the first place I went to when I went home. His first response in seeing me was....WHAT the FUCK are you doing here?? and a huge hug. At the end of the night, his last words were, "last bell, Ive had yer money , now fuck off home". Ive never felt so loved:)

And I believe they're restricted to the Northern part of Ire. not the republic.

Status: offline 		I don't know anyone who thinks of Ireland as an "unarmed" society.  Of course it is full of guns.  And if the Republicans stil; had the men and the stomach for the fight, and if they hadn't just been irretrievably weakened by infiltration and the ceasefires, they'd just go back to their armourers and make their own weapons (the bombs that destroyed buildings at Canary Wharf, Broadgate in the City of London and the Arndale Centre in the middle of Manchester were home made, with great ingenuity.  Likewise the mortar which was used to attack Downing Street with astonishing accuracy).  The old boys who did the work in South Armagh "haven't gone away, you know".

On the other hand anyone who things MI5 (or MI6) are restricted in their operations to the UK, and so to Northern Ireland, should form a queue over here where I will sell them a used car and a jackalope ranch.

Not sure where else you have lived besides where it says in your profile.

Yes, it is a very blanket statement, to be sure. Japan is theoretically very polite, but they look on Westerners on the level of cockroaches. I don't personally consider that polite. Of all the places I have visited, I think the French were the worst and I was in France for less than 24 hours.

If you compare apples to apples, the polite areas of the United States are the ones where a good percentage of the population is armed. NYC and DC? Rude as hell. Texas was pretty darn polite when I traveled it. So was Louisiana and Mississippi.
