I will almost certainly support whatever decision President elect Obama makes.
Just as all the Bush supporters have stood behind the Commander in Chief for
the last 8 years that we have been in Iraq.
We all know that after almost a 10 year war, we can't just run out of there, now
can we?

If he makes an immediate start of withdrawal but the safety of our men and women dictate a slower pace, then doing the right thing is much better than doing the expedient thing. He's said 16 months.. so, I'd expect our troops to be out of there no later than June or July of 2010 if not before. It's not just Iraq .. he's got Iran, Russia, North Korea and Afghanistan with which to deal as well. He'll have to be a Master Multi-tasker.

As far as supporting the 'mission'.. I have no idea what the mission is so, no, I don't nor have I ever thrown my support behind shadows. I do, however, support our troops. I have and will continue to support Obama as long as he moves in the right direction to maximize the potential we have as a nation. He's got his work cut out for him, I recognize that and I'm willing to give him time to do his job. He'd best not take his eye off the ball though, because I certainly won't be taking my eye off of him.

I don't know.

I do believe that Obama will get us out of Iraq faster that McCain would have.  At this point, I have to trust in his judgment regarding getting us out.

If it appears that he is keeping us there longer than he should, then I'll rethink my support.

President Bush has been in office 8 years and has not done much of note, except
being one of the worse Presidents in US history.
The inauguration is not until January, people are already expecting miracles?

I voted for President-elect Obama, so I guess that makes me a supporter.

My guess is that we will not leave Iraq until we are not longer dependent on oil from the Middle East, and no sooner. This, no matter who sits in the oval office.

As we start to pull out, troubles will come, and we will be going back in ... which is why the real lesson here is to take a bit more care where you send troops in the first place.

When and if we do finally leave, about when I'm in my sixties, it will be a disaster of epic proportion.

If US troops are still in Iraq in 2010 that's not such a big deal for Obama. Had McCain won the election, he had alluded to the notion that we would be in Iraq until 2050.

I also wonder if anyone has considered the idea that the US may be trying to woo their way into acceptance in Iraq to potentially use them as a (another) middle east military base location.

Caitlyn, that being the case then Obama will be saying "Drill, drill, drill" here off the coasts and in Alaska.

It's not as simple as that.

And the real problem is in Afghanistan.

President Obama is stepping into TWO wars and
the worse economy since the "last" Depression.
The way things are going, pray that there even IS an economy

when he steps in.

Pray that he is able to make the BEST decisions for our country

and the world.
I agree, Afghanastan is the bigger problem.

The Democrats have had the power every day to force our troops to leave Iraq for almost 700 days.  Have they?

Want some amusing reading?  Dig into the archives here from 2 years ago, right before the last mid-term election.  Some people actually believed they would do it.

And Obama will have a plan to get us out, if only we elect him for a second term.

I've been quite certain from the very beginning that that was one of the primary reasons for invading  Iraq. Not just for establishing a few bases, but to provide an excuse for maintaining significant air and land force levels on MidEastern soil for an indefinite period.

Depends on what the mission even is at that point, and how it's being executed.

There are many, many, many, many, many people that are going to make sure
that Senator Obama is not judged harsher than the other Presidents that proceeded him.
You can bet on that.
Especially after he was elected AFTER 8 years of one of the worse U.S. Presidents in history.
I am just sayin.

Face it dude, he is loved by the world.
He will have to do some weird and crazy things, that don't make a lot of sense, be

on vacation all the time, act like he is asleep at the wheel, and just appear to be incompetent.
Wait, that sounds like our last President.
