But seriously...yes, this started out as a question...turned into a flame war...but at the same time, I too have seen several topics come up that have been answered quite honestly...I have not continued to follow this thread because of what's his name...but rather because of some of the other topics that have come up.

Wonderful...I too followed this thread because other topics were near and dear to me...

I never came away offended either and like you had some laughs.

Status: offline 		Just to clarify on the issue of "hello", i don't think anyone is bagging on the idea of saying hello or demanding some sort of deep psychological revelation as precondition to conversation. But just saying "Hi, I liked your profile, check out mine and write back" is not only lame, it's lazy and is probably a form letter -- you could send that exact message to anyone on this board, be they male or female, top or bottom. There's no genuine interest in the person being shown.

If you write "Hi, I liked your profile, your story about the car was hilarious! My sister had a similar incident last year." then THAT is something personal. It takes 1% more brainpower and is clearly not something you could send out as spam. When you read that, you know the sender actually read your profile and chose to write TO YOU.

"Hi, I liked your profile, that blue hat in your photo really brings out your eyes!" is personal.

Sending out a generic "hi, write back if interested" is the most cowardly first contact I can imagine. They're pretending to make the first move, when really all they're doing is finding out who is desperate enough to write back. It's bad enough to get such messages from a submissive, it doesn't shock me at all that no dom would get a response from such a limp-wristed approach.

Time is a factor. I certainly do not write much more than a paragraph to anyone unless I get feedback first. I have recieved very long emails in the past, simply to end up ignoring them myself - I mean, I read them and then chose not to reply. A long introductory email is a waste of everyone's time. Anyone requiring a long introductory email should state so in their profile, hopefully along with some explanation as to why such a thing is required. Chances are also pretty good that I would tend not to reply to a profile with such a requirement.

I actually think a good profile can speak very loudly if written well and thoughtfully. A hello email is hardly cowardice - it's just an invitation to check out the profile and picture and let the person initiating communications know whether it's thumbs up or down. What's wrong with that?

Y'all make it seem like there's some "magic" that must be worked before a conversation can begin. Fuck that...

Where has anyone said you have to write a long email? I don't see that anywhere in this thread.

The entire point of my message was that it takes maybe 5 seconds longer to write WHY you wrote to THAT person in particular (your hair looks wild, that vegetable story made me laugh, I used to own a horse, too, etc!). The longest "good" example I had was two sentences long! It didn't even fill a single line of text on my computer!

If all you say is literally "Hi, if you're interested write me back", then you're just as likely to be a spammer as a legitimately interested person. If you add some elaboration of WHY you are contacting this person, or WHAT in particular makes you think they might be interested in knowing you, you've just beat 99% of the people sending messages by being specific and approaching them as a person rather than as "Submissive Female #473" or "Dominant Man #39".

It's not some terrible burden to write more than 4 words in a row and give the recipient something personal to respond to. Nobody needs to know your shoe size or childhood trauma, this isn't a therapy session or multilevel marketing pitch. But please, say something more than "Hi, I'm too lazy or scared of rejection to say anything, so please, I'd like you to start the conversation if you're bored enough to want to write back, even though you have no idea if I've even read your profile much less know anything about you or your interests".

Status: offline 		I have seen the same things. I think that some are attempting to be clever, witty, or deep when they are none of these. As they attempt to craft words into thoughts it comes out like something like a pre-schoolers attempt at drawing. (Sorry for the rant.)

You have to understand that the women get tons of replies and don't have time to respond them all. And some of the things they get are about as incoherent as the drivel you describe, but add a dose of testosterone. I have met women who post here and other places and they all tell me this.

Just keep your chin up. I actually have met some as deep as they think they are. I have had some fun encounters with those met here. You just have to separate the wheat and chaff. As males, we don’t get as much, but what we do has the same proportions of chaff to wheat.

Keep wading, keep smiling, and you will find what you want.

Mostly I see geriatric blue hairs with baggy skin that waives in the breeze as they try not to lose their balance without their walker. where are all the romantics that are holding hands I never see any....

I disagree with the last post. I feel that being a true, compassionate, sincere, honest, intelligent, detail-oriented P/person (M/man or W/woman) is the type of person I seek when I am seeking a D/s relationship and interestingly physical appearance has little to nothing to do with it. I have been told by many that I am "very pretty", but it is not My place (or yours as a person judging H/his own looks) to distinguish Yourself that way. "Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder" - a lovely phrase that I think about from time to time in addition to "Practice Random Acts of Kindness".

Showing Me (or anyone else for that matter) that You are a sincere P/person (Dominant, submissive or vanilla), that You care, that You do a lot for others and that you are not just One that climbs the ladder, leaving everyone else to suffer (i.e., that perhaps You give to whatever organization You like to give to, or that You have cared for Your sick then passed parent -- I am sorry for Your loss by the way)...

Basically, there are too few sincere, modest, compassionate, intelligent, confident, honest people out there. Maybe You could start to be that way (or show that You are already) and more people would take you seriously.

Status: offline 		In my experience people of quality don't brag about their advantages or go on about how hard they've had to work to get to where they are. People of quality deal with the situations that crop up in life as best they can, live by their ethics and don't go around looking for validation. They have a healthy sense of self worth and don't need a great deal of external validation to feel good about themselves.

You can't, and I was not insinuating that a person could. I was merely trying to make a point ( by using my own experieces as an example ) Someone emails me, I automatically look at the profile first, and then I read the email. If the profile does nothing to spark an interest, then the email will have to.

In response to Foxer's comments that he only gets off the wall comments from females, I looked at his profile...that in conjunction with his comments that had already been posted did nothing to say that he was even worth a second glance.

That is what my comment was in relation to :)
