You sure do take a lot from a few words. Did you see the other parts that you missed?

He is tough and brings experience. Those two things are needed in that position. Yes he will be able to offer advice on EVERYTHING, because of his proximity and relationship with the President. I do not see this as a bad thing, and in fact see it as a good choice. After time we will better be able to assess on whether it is a good choice or not.

I don't think people appreciate the power of the "Chief of Staff" to the President.  It depends, of course, on the relationship between the two men but Rohm and Barack are close friends, along with David Axelrod, and he will be a very strong "gatekeeper" of the Oval Office.  NOONE makes an appointment with the President withhout it going through the Chief of Staff....he is in frequent daily contact with the President, is an important advisor, and will have an important vote on all appointments.  Rohm would NEVER have taken this job to be a "secretary" to the President and keep his appointment book.. If you think he is that kind of man, you don't understand this ambitious, ruthless, cunning, intelligent, focused, driven, politician...you don't know the man.  He is Carl Rove in a tutu.....yea...the guy took ballet lessons, but he also carried an Uzi in the IDF.  As Hillary once described him in a roast....Rohm is a "conflicted man"...with a seven word vocabulary...
He will shake things up...and be more than an "internal appointment"....

inflammatory way of describing themselves. I must be a neo con....I love a number

of people that are JEWISH ....hmmmmm...I learn so much form you Fats.

Anyone who doubts the power of such a position needs to study up on Martin Bormann.

Or perhaps HR Haldeman?

p.s. neo-libs?....that is a new one for me....but I think neo-cons and libs as terms or labels are both derisive.

Well NeoCon certainaly is. I has come to be a code word for rich war loving Jew or Jew lover.

I doubt that the same critics, who's use of the term NeoCon drips with bigotry and contempt will be using a similar term for hawkish, bullish advisers to President Elect Obama.

This is the first I've heard of it.  Neo Con to me represents nothing more than a political philosophy, irrespective of religion.  Cheney is certainly one, and not Jewish as well as many others.  "Liberal" is also a term used derisively by some, and many Jews are liberal too.

Markie...

Google Zionist and NeoCon and read the anti-Jewish, anti-Israel filth.

To pretend that there isn't a significant target aimed at NeoCons from elitist Country Club Republicans and elitist Ivy Democrats and that at the heart of that dislike and even hatred, is the "Jewishiness" of the Neo-Con movement and that movements support for Nation of Israel, is disingenuous at best.

Boy FDD ,you really believe in hitting the ground running don't you.Is this the 3rd or the 4th thread critical of President elect Obama since his election.
Not sure why it is incumbent on Democrats once winning an election to make nice with Repub types tot he point where they must walk softly while staffing their West Wing. Were Democratic leaders consulted when Bush staffed his office.

Don't know about "leaders", but......
  • Norman Mineta, Bush's first Secretary of Transportation, was a Democrat (and Commerce Secretary under Bill Clinton).
  • George Tenet was appointed CIA director under Bill Clinton
  • Louis Freeh, FBI Director, was appointed under Bill Clinton
For all the talk of "neo-cons", it would be hard to say that Bush's staff has been Republican Party aparatchiks.

Nice list CL,though they happen to be Cabinet level, for the purposes of this thread we are discussing here the President's west wing staff .Chief of Staff being perhaps the closest and most confidant position to be filled.FDD starting a thead bitching that Obama has chosen a pit bull Democrat shortly after an election cycle when the Republican candidate shot off the "only difference between a pit-bull and a hockey-mom .....lipstick" line is disengenuous at best business as usual from FDD at worst.

You're FoS. I've been following the Neo Cons since they showed up at the start of the Reagan administration. Technicallythe term refers to those who considered themselves liberal but became conservatives during the 70's. Jewish identity had nothing to do with it. Unless of course you think Cheney or Rumsfeld are jewish.

SilverMark -> RE: NeoLibs??? How will the anti war crowd react to the New Liberal Hawks? (11/8/2008 3:20:11 PM)

CIA and FBI are both non-partisan jobs and held from President to President(see the ugly fat man in the dress with all the files) so that argument holds no water CL.
Bush is, as he has always been, extremely partisan. It is his right he is a President so therefore it is political, and so are the jobs within that section of the government.
Under normal circumstances, if after the rather convincing win for Obama, no one would expect anything but for each position to be filled by party faithful. Obama will be held to a higher standard by those such yourself as a sticking point for your own views and Obama's desire for some form of unity. I truly believe that if he could Obama would select Dick Luger as his Secretary of State(as an example) but, Luger would decline it so therefore if he is going to decline Obama will not offer so that he isn't turned down. Bush was never held to a unity or bi-partisan standard nor has anyone else ever been. His internal staff will be made up of those who he sees as loyal to him like Axlerod and Ploufe as well as Rahm who is after all a congressman from his state. Nothing too new in the world of the Whitehouse.

I've never heard neo-cons described as 'war loving Jew' before.

Somehow I doubt that.

I haven't either.  I've heard it applied to Cheney and Rumsfeld among others.

My gf is a Jew-lover, but she's not a war-lover.

Possibly but I've always felt Haldeman would have done more if he could have gotten away with it.
