Nah Silver.."neo-lib" not a new thingy...  just us "neo-con" types responding to the derisive word the libs have used for years.  More to come now that the liberal wing of the party dominates and controls the Congress AND the Presidency.

This is from Wikipedia:

"Neoconservatism is a political philosophy that emerged in the United States from the rejection of the social liberalism, moral relativism, and New Left counterculture of the 1960s.  In the United States, neoconservatives align themselves with mainstream conservative values, such as the free market, limited welfare, and traditional cultural values. Their key distinction is in international affairs, where they prefer an interventionist approach that seeks to defend national interests."

How is this in any way derisive?

Especially when many prominent neoconservatives such as William Kristol use the term to refer to themselves.

By contrast, this is the Wikipedia citation for neoliberalism:

 "Neoliberalism" is a label referring to the recent reemergence of liberalism among political and economic scholars and policy-makers. It is mainly used by critics and opponents of liberalism, and according to one study, "the concept itself has become an imprecise exhortation in much of the literature, often describing any tendency deemed to be undesirable".[1] Proponents usually describe themselves simply as "liberals".

Markie...

Google Zionist and NeoCon and read the anti-Jewish, anti-Israel filth.

To pretend that there isn't a significant target aimed at NeoCons from elitist Country Club Republicans and elitist Ivy Democrats and that at the heart of that dislike and even hatred, is the "Jewishiness" of the Neo-Con movement and that movements support for Nation of Israel, is disingenuous at best.

Whatever would we do without you seeing through all the bigotry and racism in our country?

I still remember your insightful thread telling us how Obama could not win because he would never get a majority of white voters.

I honestly never thought he could and I think that it speaks to the greatness that is America that he did. America is a county with racists in it but it can no longer be called a racist country.

BTW... I wasn't alone in that opinion. The Clinton Wing of the DNC as well as Southern Democrats and North East Union Belt Democrats were just as doubtful.

Not sure why it is incumbent on Democrats once winning an election to make nice with Repub types...

Yeah.... I believe that have been the whole tone of his campaign from Iowa to Tuesday night's acceptance speech or are you going to say he didn't say what he said?

I am also wonder if Rahm Emanuel  would have been named COS if Florida had gone red.

slvemike4u -> RE: NeoLibs??? How will the anti war crowd react to the New Liberal Hawks? (11/8/2008 7:56:17 PM)

Bullshit FDD,You are talking about governing from the center ,while bitching about who his COS is.Tell you what should not the Republicans play nice and give the man the benifit of the doubt,instead of as you are doing trying to devine sinister motivations from staffing moves. After all he won,they and you lost.

 Two ranking conservatives,one the House Minority Leader ,the other Senator Lynsey Graham.

Two different responses to Emanuel`s appointment to COS.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Linsey Graham`s responce..
"This is a wise choice by President-elect Obama.
"Rahm knows Capitol Hill and has great political skills.  He can be a tough partisan but also understands the need to work together.  He is well-suited for the position of White House Chief of Staff.
"I worked closely with him during the presidential debate negotiations which were completed in record time.  When we hit a rough spot, he always looked for a path forward.  I consider Rahm to be a friend and colleague.  He's tough but fair.  Honest, direct, and candid.  These qualities will serve President-elect Obama well.
"Rahm understands the challenges facing our nation and will, consistent with the agenda set by President-elect Obama, work to find common ground where it exists.  I look forward to working with him in his new position and will continue to do everything I can to help find a pathway forward on the difficult problems facing our nation."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Very conciliatory.

I think Graham is doing the right thing and doesn`t go in for the divisive,under-belly,angry-pants mindset.

John Boehner`s responce...

"This is an ironic choice for a president-elect who has promised to change Washington, make politics more civil and govern from the center."

Not very conciliatory.

Mr.Emanuel`s statement.
I want to say a special word about my Republican colleagues, who serve with dignity, decency and a deep sense of patriotism. We often disagree, but I respect their motives.  Now is a time for unity.  I will do everything in my power to help you stitch together the frayed fabric of our politics, and help summon Americans of both parties to unite in common purpose.

Very conciliatory.

It`s clear that Boner doesn`t get it and still represents the immature, reactionary and failed neo-conservative mindset.
No problem,someone needs to play the roll of political clown.There`s such a huge audience for it.

And the neo-liberal thing is cute but meaningless and just made up.

Perhaps it`s a coping method,FDD?

Clinton's statements that Obama couldn't win a majority of white voters was a line of crap designed to sway superdelegates.

popeye1250 -> RE: NeoLibs??? How will the anti war crowd react to the New Liberal Hawks? (11/8/2008 8:38:28 PM)

Mike, I'd like to think that everyone "won" by having Obama as our president!
I'd wish the same if McCain had won!
I hope that President Obama is the best president we ever had!
Anything's a step up from the last two "presidents."

Owner59 -> RE: NeoLibs??? How will the anti war crowd react to the New Liberal Hawks? (11/8/2008 8:53:29 PM)

Until recently (before democrats took control),the conservative definition of bi-partisanship was for liberals to agree with and support conservatives.lol

That was it,their way or the hi-way.Otherwise you were an obstructionist.

Thank god liberals stopped republicans from privatizing Social Security accounts.They would be looted and empty by now.

Even in the minority,conservatives think bi-partisanship means agreeing with them.

One day maybe they`ll learn to play nicey nice.

If the Dems treated the republicans the way cons treated the democrats from 2000 to 2006,they wouldn`t see the light of day,be allowed to hold a hearing or advance legislation.They would be shut out of any process or policy formation.The republican party would be persona non grata,Tom DeLay style.

[:D] [:D]

Not to worry though.Democrats have a lot more class and maturity for that.....

Couldn't agree more popeye,when all is said and done FDD and I both will either benifit from his Presidency or have more hurdles thrown in front of us as a result of.My sarcasm and flippancy here is more accurately directed at the author of the thread who doesn't even have the good grace to allow the glow from the election to subside before injecting his poison.
This was an momentous achievement,one in which all Americans of good will have a stake in its success....it does seem though that some think it more important to be right...and the country suffer for not having heeded them.,than for them to have been wrong and the country be enriched by his Presidency...I find that curious to say the least.

Actually buddy,your previous thread said more about you than is did about America.

I think conservatives hoped for and stoked racial prejudice in order to help McPalin win.

Why not owner it had been a successful strategy for 50 years.

Better yet, remember how Obama hadn't had the "Black Experience"?

One minute we can't elect a black man.....Next he wasn't black enough....

Now it's Jewish people and neo conservatives....
