lronitulstahp -> RE: Can Britian have a black PM? (11/9/2008 6:46:18 AM)

i have some possible PM's...keep in mind, my choices are based mainly on hawtness, but i'm sure, given time, they could govern.  We nearly had a Veep with the same basic qualifications.  Though, at east my choices are well travelled...and being European, probably have a bit more polish....

Chucky Venice
http://us.vdc.imdb.com/media/rm2788725504/nm1111200
Craig David
http://www.muscletalk.co.uk/m2969614-p1-print.aspx
Richard Blackwood
http://www.choice-fm.co.uk/article.asp?id=44568
And of course, David Beckham....no pics needed.

now, Naomi Campbell would be even more historic, as a black woman, and total badass...i think she'd scare up the Tory vote, and Labour would appreciate a PM that can knock a terrorist cell leader unconscious with a phone.

As for real life...
Yes Britain can have a Black PM.  It's possible.  i'm sure Obama's victory caused ripples from the US to Staines, and Brixton.  It's been my experience that Brits are less racist, and xenophobic than people in the States.  That said-- if we can elect a minority as our nation's leader....anyone can.

i wouldn't want race to be a qualifying factor in anyone getting the job.  But, i understand the frustration that race, whether Black, Asian, anything else, is one of the invisible, yet known factors in people NOT achieving certain success for hundreds of years.  Fixing it the way Obama did, by hard work, diligence,  and acquiring an excellent education, and not using race as a crutch, but rather a reason to do more...that's the way to change the system.  In any country, change comes through one's ability to make themselves be heard.

SL4,  LOL, thats what Obama is,    a fashion accessory.
Even Lord Obama is just a front for the globalists.
we got tired of the pale white guy.

Oh I don't see Obama as a fashion accessory I think what you have with him is someone with amazing potential to communicate on the world stage and domestically to get things done.

The difference is pahunkboy if Obama had been white and McCain black I still would have voted for Obama given the chance because I genuinely believe his style is what America and the world needs at this point in time.

No leader is going to get things done alone what you need is someone that can co-ordinate people through communication and that man is Obama.

I'm actually quite jealous that the US has what I'm sure will be a great world leader. McCain was a nice genuine man but he let the party machine take over and run a hate campaign, that never works and he didn't sell himself. It's hard but sometimes you have to forget what your opponent is doing or saying and just get your own message out, McCain didn't do this sufficiently.

From my perspective.

Chucky Venice is a z rated actor in a trash tv show
Craig David is a one song derivative rehasher of other people's stuff. Remade famous as a figure of weirdness on Bo Selecter.
Richard Blackwood is most famous for going on a reality detox show and questioning his sexuality because he had an enema.
We can do better.

But they are all hot....sheesh people, let's focus here!!!!!!!
Though i noticed, you didn't oppose to Campbell or Becks[;)]....

MadAxeman -> RE: Can Britian have a black PM? (11/9/2008 7:57:24 AM)

Becks I didn't see.
But he is not black either.
Naomi Campbell is most memorable to me as the answer given on The Weakest Link to the question
Name a bird with a long neck

Four years ago, or certainly eight, you could have said the same about the USA. Others here have been spot on, the class system is likely to be more of a barrier here than race.

colouredin -> RE: Can Britian have a black PM? (11/9/2008 11:03:41 AM)

i am actually really shocked at people saying that it will never happen. I agree that here the biggest issue is class (see chav)

I think Britain can have a black PM just as we had a female PM in the 80's (ok so she was questionable but she was still a woman)

Aneirin -> RE: Can Britian have a black PM? (11/9/2008 1:02:08 PM)

What was that TV sketch that was on a while ago, where a common or garden housewife became prime minister and there operated the position with the sense of the people, which was not the sense of the cabinet, the differences becoming apparent.

Maggie, I remember was pretty ok to start with, (or was that my politics of the time), but she descended into lunacy, much as did Blair. Perhaps a four year term is enough, as it seems, a second term brings out the meglomaniac.

I don't care about the politics of the ruling parties, they do not represent me, but I would like to see a black Prime minister, purely because it would give me faith that anyone can do it and scotch my belief that if your face don't fit you will go nowhere.

Aside from that,I hope it would give some serious hope to all those who feel alienated in my country because of their skin.

SL4V3M4YB3 Okay if it was in my power, based simply on the insight and comprehension of our political reality's here in America you would have the right to cast a vote here.....Your post's are usually spot on sprinkled with just enough irreverence and humor to make them IMO must reads...Thanks

I don't want to appear rude but are you quite elederly then?  Because I can see it happening in my lifetime - quite comfortably.  David Lammy springs to mind, although he has a lower profile since his election to Parliament at the tender age of 27.  He suffers, I think, from having gone to university at Harvard which means he hasn't as many inside contacts.

I'd also mark Chuka Umunna down to go far - he's a key part of Compass and I think they have a big part to play in future Labour governments.  After the financial crisis there will be more interest in centre left politics.

I'd also tip Dawn Butler for the Cabinet in future but mainly because she's the only MP you could happily contemplate playing hide the sausage with. Well, they say politics is showbiz for ugly people.

Thanks mike, it's nice to hear others share my views and find me funny rather than just annoying.

Well, my birthday will be in 7 weeks, but
I refuse to budge from 98.
Funny, how people say age, race and gender don't matter.

I would go along with Reality here and even tip David Lammy as my favourite if ever there were a black PM. He does have a relationship with PE Obama and also contacts with people close to Gordon Brown.

MzMia -> RE: Can Britian have a black PM? (11/9/2008 5:06:47 PM)

Well stella time will certainly tell.

MadAxeman -> RE: Can Britian have a black PM? (11/9/2008 7:31:11 PM)

David Lammy was fiercely pro the invasion of Iraq. That's a huge minus.
Plus points are his dislike of George Galloway and that Spurs have started playing well again.

XNakisisaX -> RE: Can Britian have a black PM? (11/9/2008 10:11:53 PM)

If a small city in Ireland can have an African mayor, yes it can happen. But my question would be, why would they want to?
