As I recall, Clinton left Bush with a healthy budget surplus, which then GW saw fit to quickly piss away.

Have you ever heard of NAFTA?

My father is an insanely rabid Republican and listens to Rush Limbaugh and the other Republican hate mongers. When there is a Republican in office, he spends his days incensed at those who would criticize the current president. When there is a Democratic president, he spends his days enraged over the actions and policies of the current president. I think he lives and loves to be angry. I guess everyone needs a hobby.

TN,  that is Rushes style.  Unbecoming to a person for sure.

I hope Rush ODs on a motherload.    I felt sorry for him and could relate to his pill thing, but being that he is so venomous, I think he is a profiteer off inciting anger.

But what you have here is a man who can provide the hope and inspiration that will be sorely needed for the next four years, for everyone to play their part in putting things back together.

What, pray tell, is "my part"?

I own a business.  I pay my bills.  Grudgingly, I pay my taxes.  I take care of my household.

I do this because this is the life I desire--I need no "hope and inspiration" from anyone, least of all a damned politician (redundant, I know).

What, pray tell, am I to be "inspired" to do that I already do not do?

Celtic,  I have come to agree with your posts in the last week.

Feeling good has little if anything to do with running a household, putting food on the table.

hmmmm....Here we go again....revvisionist history.....
Clinton left these terrorist cells? and of course that caused Bush's 8 years of very little aside from an uncalled for war, and a deficit our Great Grandchildren might finally get paid? There was no surplus when Clinton left office?
The budget wasn't balanced...it was all congress's fault not Bush? Better yet it was all the younger Mr. Cuomo's fault that the mortgage crisis hit?
and that isn't a Lyndon Larouche Video is it? I really would rather do anything but hear from his group....
I take it back Pahunk, you are becoming a conspiracy theorist!
fddurfp

Ok- a conspiracy theorist.

What is he wrong about?   I dont have to like him, or even agree with all of his views.  But ya know, with frequent bail outs, and as the big bail out, was necessary; so needed that Obama voted for it and now wants another one,  what world are you living in?   Where is the  nulling of Larouches points?  Actually your government is doing exactly as tho there is a monetary crises.

Dont watch the video.  The end discusses scientific discovery and creativity.

You and many here, think thoughts approved by the grid. And no other thoughts.

So the sky will open up, and just because we feel good, that will make food on the table.

Larouche is correct.   How long can Reagans voodoo economics go on?  The day to pay the piper is today.  It doesnt go away if we just feel good.

You guys know he is no longer running for anything and hasn't been president for almost a decade? Clinton Derangement Syndrome, it is a horrible thing to see.

Not to mention a terrorist plot to blow up numerous buildings throughout the country.

You are mostly already fulfilling your part - supporting yourself and showing responsibility in your affairs; some dont.

Playing a part in all this is really about what youre doing, but my comment is about more than what individuals do and dont do - corporations and especially those benefitting from bailouts, must play their part in supporting the national interest at least as much as their shareholder value.

We should hook him up with my father. Sounds like they could be best friends. Well as long as your dad doesn't try and swipe the pic of Bush, hanging in the dining room. He wouldn't do that, would he?

And yet we are still dealing with his lousy choices after all that time. Imagine that.

Stalker. Lousy choices? Shhhh don't tell the largest majority of voters ever to elect a president. I think we are thrilled with our choice.

Clinton had the largest majority of voters to elect him? I don't remember that one. Oh well, I stand by what I said. NAFTA being one of his worst mistakes as far as I am concerned.

Corporations and their leaders will do what they perceive to be in their self-interest--as will everyone.

Wise governance acknowledges this and aligns policy to leverage that self-interest.  Poor governance appeals to the nonexistent "better nature" of man.

This isnt about supporting philanthrophy - this is about recognising that we are all interdependent and any recovery will only come with solidarity towards that cause. Corporations, one might imagine, might well be realising now that by exporting manufacturing, they have helped to undermine the foundations on which they stand. Banks, one might imagine, might well be realising now that by indulging in their previous behaviour, they have undermined the foundations on which they stand.

Its going to be a long haul, and everyone has to adjust to that - no more short term "get rich quick" schemes, but rather everyone working together to relay the foundations by which general and genuine wealth might be rebuilt. This is acting in self interest but happens to also support the self interest of one's neighbours and the future of our nations.

This election just ended and Obama has not taken office yet. He hasn't made any choices, lousy or otherwise.  I also hadn't realized that Obama had the largest majority vote. Are you talking about the popular vote?

That is true. I liked and voted for Bill.

In hindsight tho - Ross Perot was the man that should have won.

PaHunk, we agree again.
And, I really do hope that Obama gets us out of this reccession that we're in.
One of the first things he should do away with is "NAFTA" and all that "free-trade" B.S. that's just "outsourcing."

Obama recession ? Boy, just in time too. I am so glad he came along just when we needed another democrat upon whom we can place all of the blame for EVERYTHING we don't like now. Like many here and all around...we got a dem congress just in time to blame IT for the previous 6 years of malfeasence by a complete repub govt.

Just think, soon we will be able to blame Iranian nukes, N. Korean belligerence, Chinese and Russian obstinance on Obama.

So-called 'free trade' agreements are NOT 'free' trade agreements at all. Up to and including NAFTA these agreements were all negotiated in secret, put on something conveniently called 'fast-track' which forced upon our congress and the people as a vote up or down...no amendments. We have in ensuing agreements so-called protection for labor and afterwards the single most powerful union leader in Haiti was murdered and his wife is now locked into a room to make things 12 hours a day.

Welcome to a new facet of vanilla slavery.

These agreements contain various protections by restrictions in agricultural products, textiles, and energy commodities. These agreements continue to allow tariffs on steel, enthanol, sugar and a whole host of other products to protect domestic profit and of course...NOT jobs. Lumber tariffs were legislated yet Canada took us to the WTO and not surprisingly...we lost the first round. Canada will spend years finally winning and more years hoping to collect on it.

The entire function of these agreements was to allow the manufacture of products (jobs) made in the US to be transferred out and imported back in to the US...duty free.

You're dreaming LE. Corporations, wall street and bankers are about money and only money and pretty much don't give a damn about how they go about getting it.

On wall street, they are ALL get rich quick schemes. All it takes is a new piece of paper to wage a big borrowed bet on and those nice 7 or 8 figure bonuses each year as are still being paid and no matter who pays it. If they go belly-up again, those socialists will call upon us capitalists to bail then out...again.

If they dont get it, then I'm afraid we are all doomed - including them; their bonus payments are only worth anything at all if there is an economy in which to realise them, either as goods and services or as investments. And it will be no good either to take them abroad as dollar bonuses since the currency will be more worthless outside the borders than it will be within.

That is the nature of where we are now - they can either get wise and look long term or fail - and there isnt going to be any bail out again because the country will be bankrupted and the bail out worthless.

If I were President, I'd have no problem whatever in compelling corporations to change their ways. If they want to continue the way they have, they'd best pack up their things now (whatever I didnt sequestrate) and leave for somewhere else because sure as hell they wouldnt be helping the country in any way whatever by remaining. If any other country would want them that is.
