This election just ended and Obama has not taken office yet. He hasn't made any choices, lousy or otherwise.  I also hadn't realized that Obama had the largest majority vote. Are you talking about the popular vote?

Yes I am. And yes he did. I have to go to the office boi, google it.

I googled it, and just by skimming over the numbers, it looks like Roosevelt had a higher percentage of the popular vote, at least in '36

On a percentage basis, Reagan in 1984, Nixon in 1972, as well as Eisenhower in 1956 and 1952 all had a larger share of the popular vote.

He's not even fucking in office yet.

Get a grip.

And already his decisions are freaking me out lol.  I mean...Rahm Emanuel as Chief of Staff?  You gotta be kidding me.

Rahm Emanuel as Chief of Staff?

Actually, it makes good sense.  Rahm is a good soldier and a superb enforcer--the political equivalent of Frank Nitti.

You still in the country? I thought you were packing your bags for "non-Socialist" Canada.

Most observers from both parties find Emanuel an excellent choice. He's a guy who gets things done.

you can't fairly call anything the "obama (blank)" because he isn't even the friggen president yet.
we got where we are now because of bush and his pals, deregulation this, tax breaks that, and obama will be handed the baton of a crappy economy among other things
he's probably not going to be able to fix it in 4 years, and the thing is, most of his supporters don't expect him to fix everything. the people putting that expectation on him are the people who didnt like him in the first place, so they can stand there and say "i told you so" when they didn't really say anything at all.

when clinton left, we had a fantastic surplus. within his first few months, bush flew through that like it was his allowance.
"lest we forget" blah blah blah =p

It was Clinton's presidency that the bank deregulation bills got signed.  Just FYI.

One of Obama's greatest strokes of geniuses was getting that pinned on Bush.  (As well as one of McCain's mistakes in not calling him on it).

I didn't vote for Obama, but he's our president now (or will be shortly) and I for one am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. It's my hope that he can be what those who deified him expected. Also, to a large extent, a president can only accomplish what the congress allows him to, and there are a lot of conservative Dem's there that won't let him do a lot of what he wants. If he screws it all up, that will be the time to start criticizing, not now.
edited for spelling

Playing a part in all this is really about what youre doing, but my comment is about more than what individuals do and dont do - corporations and especially those benefitting from bailouts, must play their part in supporting the national interest at least as much as their shareholder value.

Unfortunately, at least in this country, the idea of the corporation as a citizen with social responsibility has given way to the idea that their sole purpose is to maximize profit.

Perhaps you are unaware that the current President of the U.S. is George W. Bush.

Perhaps you're unaware that doesn't put Bush at fault for bills Clinton signed.

Maximizing profit is a corporation's "social responsibility".  It never has been, never will be, and never should be otherwise.

No point to arguing this bullshit.

Eight years after Clinton, you're claiming, Bush was simply unable to undo the tremendous damage.

Whatever. Enjoy Canada. I hear it's fun to state on the canal in Ottawa.

Please refrain from strawmanning claims that I've never made.  Thank you.

Someone claimed Bush is responsible for causing the deregulation.  I pointed out Clinton did that, not Bush.

Bush has enough of his faults; there's no need to pin ones on him he didn't do.

Newt Gringrich, actually.

Who signed it into law?  Clinton did.  (Edit: And therefore not Bush...which was my original point.)

Carry on.

Obama Claims Highest Vote Total In US History

Foreign
US Presidential Election  2008-11-06 12:54

WASHINGTON, DC: With record numbers of Americans casting ballots in Tuesday's election, the first African-American president-elect won more votes than any candidate in US history, reports and records of the US National Archives show.
He also claimed a higher percentage of the overall vote than any Democrat since Lyndon B. Johnson in 1964, vote tallies reveal.
At 1:30 p.m. (1830 GMT) Wednesday, with results given in 48 states and the District of Columbia, Obama had 349 electoral votes compared with 163 for Republican John McCain
He was declared the winner late Tuesday after securing the 270 Electoral College votes needed to win the White House.
US networks said Obama won the popular vote by a six-point margin of 52 to 46 percent, earning a higher percentage of the overall vote than any Democrat since Johnson in 1964 (61.1 percent).
The 47-year-old first term senator from Illinois earned 63.25 million votes nationwide, while McCain, a Vietnam War hero and longtime Arizona senator, won 55.90 million, NBC, CBS and Fox News reported.
Overall, more than 130 million people cast ballots, Politico.com reported.
US national archives show that to be the highest total number of voters ever in a US general election, and 63.25 million the largest total for any candidate.

Or it could be McCain didn't "call him on it" because the primary sponsor of the deregulation bill was McCain's economic advisor Phil Gramm, who propsed it along with two other Republicans and it was passed by the Senate and House which both had Republican majorities.

Yet he was able to shred the Constitution with ease.....curious abilities this man had.
