It takes me a long time before I care. It annoys me when people ask for a picture up front. I used to have one up - and still they wanted full body shots the first time we meet. More because, I realize, they are very vain. It definitely proves nada. I do want to know what their face looks like after I'm starting to really really like them - but my ex-fiance, I didn't even ask him for a pics for months and months of talking online first. We never webcammed and we were long distance for 6 years. Our conversations kept us entertained. Anyway, I'm just not a visual person - and it's totally my right to discriminate against guys who are visually motivated. My mind is my biggest sex organ. I like guys who are similar. The rest of the world is how to meet someone based on superficial things. I like the net cuz you can get over your shyness and go straight to the stuff you never tell anyone else about you, that makes you you. That's what I want to know about.

SunNMoon -> RE: not knowing what he looks like (11/10/2008 8:05:09 PM)

I like a picture before I meet people, it's more of I'm bad at remembering what he says he looks like as is so I need all the help I can get. Saying I'm going to wear a blue shirt isn't going to help me too much.

ulti -> RE: not knowing what he looks like (11/10/2008 8:08:28 PM)

I would not feel comfortable meeting with someone without having some idea as to what they look like.  I'm generally nervous enough when I meet someone for the first time - the last thing I need is an extra surprise!  [;)]

YourhandMyAss -> RE: not knowing what he looks like (11/10/2008 9:12:31 PM)

Yup yup that is so true. I have this one picture and it was in a really unflattering over sized dress that was a melony orange and I was sitting down indian style, and the guy I showeed it to , didn't like how I looked and I guess decided I was to fat for his tastes, but when he saw another picture his reaction was much diffrent, he said now that was a better picture.

Half the time pictures aren't even good representations of people. Depending on background, clothing, posture etc.

If I had no intention of meeting this person, I could go indefinitely without seeing a picture.  If I were open to the possibility of meeting in real life, I would definitely require a picture for security reasons.

According to various sources , I'm stupid and dangerous too , I take that as a compliment.
I still , however prefer to know the rope is unlikely to snap before I jump.

has anyone ever met someone sight unseen?

I've had a couple of subs insist they wanted to meet sight unseen, over the years, but have put that down to BS. I will send someone a picture when I make first contact, and I expect them to reciprocate fairly soonish. I used to ask - but these days, if I don't get one voluntarily, I let the conversation peter out. If a woman really has no pictures of herself, I don't think I want to even know.

Not every one belives first meets have to be in public or in very public places you know. And that's their right to believe that.

In a very public place , right ?

I agree with this.  I know that for safety reasons, public is far better.  Because my Sir is well known and because I had the opportunity to be contacted by others that knew him well, I nor he didn't need the public meet first.  One's own judgement is imperative. I think generally that most people want to see what they will expect.  Some sort of pic, even an old one.  Many woman looking and men, have cams these days.   There is a reason a profile is out there, to explain what you want in appearance if its important to you.  Hell I wrote no bald men or dunlaps.   Sir had a pic of himself, altho old and he met me sight unseen at my house and we've been together ever since.

How long would you go without knowing what someone looks like? has anyone ever met someone sight unseen? or the guy really thinks it is exciting the thought to meet without knowing what he looks like..

How long? Depending on the distance and the amount of online time spent getting to know them right up until first real time meeting.

What is a photo anyway other than a snapshot of a person taken from one split second of their life? It doesn't give you any indication of how it feels like to be in their company or how they project themselves, which for me is really where all the attraction and chemistry really exists, not in how they look or appear. Anyone can look good on a photo, but it's what lies inside and what comes from that inside which really matters.

Evility -> RE: not knowing what he looks like (11/11/2008 4:06:01 AM)

To each his/her own, I guess. I'll meet someone at a hotel room with no safe call but not without having seen her picture first. A blind date way back when and meeting people through the available avenues of today without a picture are not necessarily the same thing.

I do agree that pictures can sometimes be a bit deceptive. That's why I like to exchange lots of pictures and I want to see big, clear, well lit and properly focused shots. They are still just snapshots - a moment in time. The camera lens is very kind to some folks and not to others. I understand that,as well... but it does put you in the ballpark.

I would expect a picture within a few emails if things were clicking.  I wouldn't meet anyone sight unseen.   I did meet someone in a hotel once where I was blindfolded before he came in and then was allowed to raise the blindfold just enough to see the tattoo on his arm to confirm that it was him from his picture.  I was then blindfolded the rest of the time we were in that room.  I never actually saw his face (except from his picture) until the next meeting.  People saw me from the beginning since I always had pictures on my profile.  Mr. C can see me any day he likes.  Physical attraction is vitally important for me.  I'm shallow like that.  I've found that my submission diminishes towards someone if I'm not really attracted to them physically.

A photo isn't going to prevent the rope from snapping.

I would never meet a woman I hadn't seen a picture of but I have met women who haven't seen me.  That said, I think it is pretty stupid for a woman to do it with anyone else as there are some crazy fucking people out there.

i agree with Michael about not meeting someone without a picture first, but for a different reason.  i wouldn't meet a Man i didn't see a picture of.  call me shallow, but i want to see something physical that i like, at least some little thing, before i have a first meet with a Man.  whether it's His eyes, His smile, His beard, His body, something.  this is, of course, assuming the meeting is to see if we're interested in each other enough to consider a relationship.  if it's just for friendship, i don't care.

I have no web cam, I have a cell phone that has no camera capability, I don't have a digital camera, and I have only recently learned how to use the scanner (don't always get it right). In short I'm technologically illiterate. But he knew that anyway because had I told him.

Thankfully he wasn't interested in me for my computer skills.
