ORIGINAL: BbwCanaDomme I just have to say that I think it's really interesting that a lot of the people talking about gun ownership are using the same talking points as a lot of the people fighting on behalf of gay marriage (it's none of the governments business, just because you don't like it doesn't mean I shouldn't do it, etc) when it's safe to say a lot of gun owners oppose gay marriage... probably the wrong thread, but yeah, I just found it interesting. I don't think the government should 'recognize' any marriage, gay or straight. if you're going to have a government and you're going to pretend to treat people equally, people need to be treated as individuals. consenting individuals can do whatever they want with their lives, be it ritual suicide to monogamy. it's none of my business. prop 8 put me in a difficult position: a) I don't think anyone should be taxed so giving anyone any tax break is a good thing. b) I don't think the government should recognize any marriages...nor should they give special priviledges to one group and deny them to others (we should all be equally fucked, be we in stright relationships, gay relationships, or single). In the end I would've voted yes on prop 8 for reason b...and because homosexuals have been arguing for more and more government intervention in our lives (hate crime laws, anti-discrimination laws, etc.) and I love the irony of the government finally extending into turf they don't like. perhaps it will be good for them.
