I was looking for a spiritual Jewish BDSM site I use to have, but couldn't find it. Did do a search on google and found several Jewish Kink, BDSM sites. If interested just go to google.

masterforRT -> RE: Kinky Jews (11/13/2008 2:17:48 AM)

My wife/sub converted to Judiasm before I met her. I am not Jewish, yet I have never been any place (including her temple and her Rabbi's house)  where I didn't feel welcome. My advice to you would be that if you don't feel welcome at one temple, find another. Another possibility would be to find and attend a Unitarian Universalist church. There are people of every religion there and diversity is encouraged and welcomed there.

candystripper -> RE: Kinky Jews (11/13/2008 4:41:07 AM)

Yes, Termy, I plan to adhere to the tenets of my faith.  I don't plan to waste the Rabbi's time exercising my curiosity about comparative religion.  The Catholic Catecism is chock full of rules about sexual conduct.  I don't know, though I certainly anticipate there are some, what those rules are for Judaism.

To those of you who spoke kindly to me, especially folks who took the step to reveal yourselves as Jewish, I am indebted.

To those of you who snarked at me:  was it the general f**ked in the head bullshit I usually get from you-know-who-you-are, or was it vieled anti-semiticism?

I think you-know-who-you-are know what I think of your behavior, but this is a new low.

Peace out.

Please excuse my irreverence for all of the seriously 'devoted' religious people. if you follow the doctrine and the rules of your religion, then by all mean be devoted.BUT on the other hand if you do whatever you want and disregard the laws of your church or synagogue, then just shut up. Religious people, who do what they want and then fall back to their religion when convenient, make me cringe. Also, being raised a Catholic, I do remember that sex outside of marriage was :clears throat: looked down upon to say it gently. Hmmm.... let's just hear from the one person who was a virgin and is now in BDSM and has remained true to their spouse. There MAY be one... hell there may be one vanilla too! Ok.. so i have my reasons for being a cynic when it comes to religions. And for what it's worth, on the the nicest, happiest religious services i have ever attended was at an Episcopal church...

And as always, feel free to disagree. smiles... I do not HATE anyone.

O, Christ onna a cracker.  Are you old enough to remember when the Mass was said in Latin?  I'm sitting in Religious Instruction one day and the nuns starts going on about how all females are an 'occassion of sin'.  We're not just responsible for our own ethical conduct, but we have to avoid inspiring lust in any males.  (Mind you, at the time, I didn't know where babies came from, LOL.)

My sense is that Judaism is not as mysoginsitic and f**ked up as Catholicism is, but I suppose I'll have to wait and see.

There are D/s web sites for kinky Jews?  I have looked -- my Google-Fu must be failing me, LOL.  Can anyone tell me what the URL may be?

Peace out.

It's really dependent on the sect and the community you join. I can honestly say that I haven't ever experienced a truly *mysoginistic* environment at any synagogues I've been to... but I HAVE seen a disdain for women at some (and I've been to quite a few in the cleveland area).

RealSub58 -> RE: Kinky Jews (11/13/2008 11:54:53 AM)

I want a liturgy and a dogma.  I want to study and learn my religion, and worship with others who believe as I do.  I do not want to feel estranged from Gawd because I am not adhering to the cathecism.
It seems you want a dogma and liturgy that is to your liking....   you want control, structure, but are unwilling to submit to the control and sturucture of a religious institution.

BossyShoeBitch   But your reason has to be a valid one. Why do you feel you want to be a Jew?  THAT is the question you need to ponder and be ready to answer sincerely.
Very well stated. Wonders if she knows the answer?  Catholic to Jew all for a set of rule and regs you don't want to follow anyway.AquaticSub  Judaism does have rules and guidelines for sex, from everything to the circumstances to what forms of birth control are acceptable due to the religious laws of not altering the body. I want a congregation to worship with, but I see no point in joining a religion which is going to give me a rash about how I live.
You want Identification with, a religious social community that you finds meets your standards on how you live.Won't happen.  Might I suggest you start your own religion?
Catholics have a Cathecism.  A book of rules about what we're supposed to believe and what will happen to us if we don't. Have you even browsed the Torah?  Look at Leviticus and you will pass out with all the laws on how to live!  Includes cooking, sex during menstruation.........
My impression is Jews study all their lives.  Not only the Old Testament, but the language of Hebrew and the Torah.  I'm not sure whether they have Canonical lawyers, as Catholics do.  (Man, those Jesuits are some smart folks.) Well I am sure the higher archy of the Cathlic persausion "study" all the time.  They came up with pergatory, they come up with new rules to live by yearly or with change of Pope.
I want a liturgy and a dogma.  I want to study and learn my religion, and worship with others who believe as I do.  I do not want to feel estranged from Gawd because I am not adhering to the cathecism.
It's God, not Gawd.  You might find yourself estranged from Jehovah/Yayah = God if you refuse to follow the laws of the Torah.  Religious institutions have rules, laws and regulations to keep you confined in a box, obedient, submissive. You break down a wall in this institution and you are free to break rules, walk away (as you seem to be doing with Catholisim) and you wonder into yet another institution with rules, regs and laws.   came4U  Can't you even tone it down a bit long enough to learn, discuss and pray without being in an all fire hurry to worry about what they will think about your personal traits.
Maybe until you have the maturity level to forget about kink and what people think for a day and you can be be fully and genuinely immersed in Judiasm, you will not be recognized as 'becoming faithful' to any God    Very well stated.greeneyedreamerBUT on the other hand if you do whatever you want and disregard the laws of your church or synagogue, then just shut up. Very well stated as she will be looking for yet another form of control whose rules, regs and laws she cannot submit to.

I dunno.. I have kind of a difficult time taking someone seriously or being understanding of someone who rags on someone else's religion.  And ya know, having been raised in that religion doesn't justify it.

I was raised in a particular religion that I no longer follow, but I don't rag on it, because that's insulting to the people that do have faith in it and connect to it, and I can't be that disrespectful.  But that's just me....

Hmmmmmm, and someone started a thread about how BDSM people are civil. Chuckles and this is civil behavior to what a person is searching for?

I will send the links to you on the other side Candystripper. As I mentioned, I not a practicing Jew anymore, though I was raised one. Search and find what you need for you. If you change your mind a hundred times be okay with that.

I'm from Ohio - and somehow feel that I should be offended.
If I make judgements about a State based on one experience- than every man in Virginia cries after sex,  men from Mississippi are uptight about sex in general,  that people in NC like to take pictures of themselves in the nude and everyone in Florida are swingers..., that all women from PA turn into psycho nut jobs, the list goes on...../
(((( just a minor defense of O_H_I_O))))

It's nice here.... really.

But Avarin, I called the Anti-Defamation League to ask if there were any synagogues or temples in Cleveland, and they told me there were only two.  Are there more?

I spoke with the Rabbi's office today and the lady was very nice.  She told me about getting a Masters in Jewish Studies here at some college, and reccomended the book Essential Judaism, by George Robinson.

Can I become a religious lawyer?  In the Catholic Church, only priests may, and they must be men.

Thanks dear.

O, Aravain -- do you recommend a particular synagoge here in Cleveland?  Thanks.

You might want to do some reading on feminism and Judaism before you meet with the Rabbi. The reason for the wall between men and women in Orthodox syngaugages is to avoid women distracting men from their prayers.

However, having attended some services at an Orthodox shul and having written a paper on Jewish women (though I am by no means an expert) I actually like the wall. While it is not the intention, it creates a female community so that women who are single, divorced or whose mate does not come with them are not alone. This is something I deal with as Valyraen feels no need to attend and I do not try to drag him along.

Judaism is not a feminist religion though a lot of feminists are Jewish due to the values of social activism prominant in the Jewish faith and community. This is changing. But slowly and the effects will show themselves differently depending entirely on where you are and what shul you attend. I attend a Conservative one, where all the men where kippahs and prayers shawls along with most of the women. Reform is much more liberal in regards to women, but (I feel) they lose a lot of the tradition. A female friend of mine can remember one day when she was the only one wearing a kippah. Orthodox is hit or miss. They have the wall, girls may or may not have a bat mitzah (sp) depending on the feelings of that community, the idea of modesty and covering one's hair may or may not be strongly enforced by the community.

If you are going for feminism, this probably isn't the right faith for you.

Edited to add: You have to remember, this is a faith where for hundred of years men have woken up and thanked G-d for making them men. This is because women are excused from many Jewish requirements because we are supposedly attending to babies. Men are thankful to have more chances to show devotation to G-d. However, it's also a religion where a man agrees to provide sexual pleasure to his wife in his marriage contract long past her childbearing years and can not take a job that will take him away from her without her consent. It's a touchy subject.

Daddystigresss -> RE: Kinky Jews (11/13/2008 4:01:34 PM)

I belong to a Reconstructionist Jewish synagogue that is very open and accepting of people of all sorts--gay and lesbian couples, mixed faith marriages.  I think they would be very tolerant of openly kinky folks.  Granted, it's in a town where there is a fetish sex shop and several gay bars, so I can't say for sure that it is representative.  But in my limited knowledge of Reconstructionism, I would say for the most part that it is the most tolerant of the different branches of Judaism.  One example of it's pluralism is that we use a prayer book that is non-gender specific--God is called things like "the omnipotent one" and never "he" or "she."

Great informative post, AquaticSub.  Myself, I'm wondering what a person who converts has found within himself/herself to take what should be a serious and thought-provoking step towards understanding.  I mean, 'christ on a cracker' Catholics and Jews are worlds apart on some very basic beliefs...but perhaps that fact doesn't matter to some people.  I always thought that someone converting to Judaism or Catholicism/Christianity from the other has had a fairly deep life-altering experience because to believe your whole life that Jesus is God and then convert to a religion that doesn't believe that ... or vice versas, is a pretty big thing.

So, OP, outside of kink and feminism, why is it that you wish to convert to Judaism?  You want a community to worship with who will be accepting ... you have to know who you are and show respect to that community before asking acceptance from them.

Thank you and I know you didn't ask but I feel the need to share... *smiles*

For me, it's simply home in a way that I can't describe other than home. It's not perfect but it is a religion based on community and tradition. Many of the values of Judaism appeal to me so, like the feminists who grew up in Judaism and refuse to abandon it, I take it for what it is and try to tweak it a bit but oh-so-carefully lest we lose what it is we love.

My apologies for going slightly off-topic.
