As a former west country lass, I can confirm it is indeed alarming, even for those who are native. Status: offline 		*smile*  My first husband never understood why I called him "Dearest, Darling, Light of my Life."   Then he finally saw "The Shining".... and caught the fact that the 'father' called his wife that right before chopping her with an ax.  He never considered it a 'term of endearment' after that.  Which was good, because every time I used it, I wanted to chop his head off.

It kinda sounds condesending and belittling...like how some men treat a waitress or some 1950's secretary would be addressed (because they could).

Yeah, those names should be reserved for a more long-term passionate relationship (or even between friends).

I would even find it offensive in an email from a stranger and I am no Mistress-type.

(maybe because I am no honey and definately not a sweetie lol)

Some chicks for want of a better word would rearrange your face and not in a nice say if you dared call them a bird, then there are some who would laugh it off or even take it as a compliment
