You should come to Dublin, Lady Constanze, laughs, some guys might even refer to you as a bird, no not me but some guys would as in Do you see that bird , look at her tits, She is awesome, like i say complimentary to many but not to some. Some chicks for want of a better word would rearrange your face and not in a nice say if you dared call them a bird, then there are some who would laugh it off or even take it as a compliment
kevin

I've been to Dublin, in fact I studied there, now unless things have changed a great deal, the places where guys refer to women as birds are the kind of places I tend to avoid, the kind of women who feel flattered when a guy says "Oy, check out the tits on the bird over there, Seamus" are usually also the ones who think getting felt up and having your behind pinched is a compliment, I always tried to avoid the Darndale and Ballybough areas... My Irish friends referred to them as "kips" (high density of council housing and crime)

Thank you - the two of you reminded me that I have a bit o' news. We Yanks got the answer to the whole kilt thing..

Seamus:   " Angus O'Cannan - what d'ya have on under the kilt? "
O'Cannan:   "Yer wife's lipstick "

In Dublin' s fair city
Where the girls are so pretty
I first set my eyes on sweet molly malone
Where she wheeled her wheel barrow
Through streets broad and narrow
crying cockles and mussels alive alive oh
alive alive oh
alive alive oh
crying cockles and mussels alive alive oh
A famous Dublin song Lady Constanze
Most of the birds in Dublin appreciate this song.  Its about beautiful Women

I was an undergraduate at Trinity, which for some odd reason is referred to as Trinity College

As I said, possibly you refer to a different group of people I know when you mention birds, Molly Malone is going back some, isn't it and the fact that she sold shellfish might be telling? Personally I always preferred Raglan Road, I believe also about Dublin...

LOL, as a foreigner and not a native speaker I was a bit restricted in the subjects... (especially since the Erasmus program gives you not too many options)

Though I do have to admit that Hamlet is one of my fave plays...

Given the current economic climate, unfortunately it's too true...
