I enjoyed it. It was good.

The movie in itself was a decent action & b movie but I really wanted to see the powered armor. That is my major gripe with it.

I feel exactly the same way about _Enders Game_ it was a great novel. I need to read the Bean stuff.
Btw I like your handle.

We read a wide variety of books, however our favorite genre is science fiction/fantasy. Our favorite authors are: Heinlein, McCaffery, Norton, Piers Anthony, Eddings, Lackey.....

Bear and Ursa

My favorite Piers Anthony novel is _On A Pale Horse_. Have you read it?

HouseofBear -> RE: Fantasy/science fiction fans here? (12/21/2005 9:19:30 PM)

Yes, we have and enjoyed it.

Are any of you into fantasy or science fiction ho are your favorite authors?

I've read the posts here, and there are listed many of the authors I grew up with and loved reading. Sci-fi and Sci-fantasy were my alltime favorites since jr high school.

The author I like a lot, but hasn't been mentioned is Phillip Jose Farmer.

For some reason, his writing created some of the most vivid and genuine-feeling worlds in my imagination.

I thought the bugs were kewl, a lot like I'd envisioned them when I read the book and that never happens when I read the book first.

I tried off and on a number of times throughout life to read Tolkien's Rings and just couldn't stay with it. After I saw the movies I was not only able to get through the books but I enjoyed them immensely. I'm glad I read The Hobbit first (and admit to being stalled at the beginning of the Silmarillion).

There is a really good story in the Silmarillon about a character named Turin. It is worth finishing.

Did you like his movie _Serenity_ it was quite good. Did you get to watch that show there?

talmar -> RE: Fantasy/science fiction fans here? (12/23/2005 11:13:53 AM)

Terry Brooks is very good. He is one of my top ten best fantasy authors.

I haven't seen the movie yet but I've been enjoying the first season of the series. Outlaw cowboys in space, what could be cornier? But they've put it together well, I think. Will they bring the series back?

talmar -> RE: Fantasy/science fiction fans here? (12/23/2005 1:50:23 PM)

There has been talk about that...but I haven't heard anything recently. It would be cool if it came back. Or even if more movies were done.

Unlikely, the ratings stunk and even the fan base wasn't enough to make the film a success at the box office.

He's dead, Jim

I come "late" to these kind of writings.

Separating sci fi for a second from fantasy writing, what is the strong attraction to fantasy writings in particular? What's the passion?

Focus50 -> RE: Fantasy/science fiction fans here? (12/23/2005 2:54:47 PM)

Someone once suggested on another site that a taste for sci-fi is a BDSM trait.... lol I guess I'm the "real-deal" then as I quite enjoy my sci-fi.

So, the really tight cossie that Seven of Nine wears in Voyager - you suppose it's indicative that she enjoys bondage?

And I thought both Starship Troopers and the Robocop movies were better than their B grade tag.... Both had excellent black humour scenes in them. I still laugh when I think of the "Magnavolt" car alarm ad in Robocop....

Focus.

Yes.

Myself frankly. I think I write what I like better than anyone else.

But in terms of other authors I like Octavia Butler and Anne Bishop quite a bit. Asimov is still one of my favorites as well.
