CM is, as this thread has shown ,  a multicultural site... as such its always best to avoid cultural specific nicknames... O/our chicken , the brits Love, or the american`s Darlin ... can al be taken as terms of endearment . however they may react six months or so down the line when they know you, id advise avoiding those terms in early comunications. remember CM isnt really like chatting birds up in madigans.... each relationship should probably start off with more respect than that.

stupid double post....

edited so im not repeating myself

honestly kevin whatever certain types in dublin (im guessing big hoopy earrings and trackies are prominent) might consider as a nickname to be proud of , id avoid using those same terms to a D-type woman here....  stick with using their name, their requested title or if your feeling really gutsy... hon.... but using our local terms of endearment may have the oposite reaction to what you desire

no, i must clarify something, i have never actually called a Woman a bird. But i know of guys who do, and the Women in their life like it and are proud to be called and known as Birds , they even boast about it on radio shows. But there are others and you wouldnt dare do it if you valued your own safety.

if i don't know you, it would be disrespectful towards me because i find those words as terms of endearment for a relationship ...not between people just meeting or chatting for the first time.

Women like to be called Bird

Dear Lobotomy,

that is a bad Irish joke, right? Or is it just that you can't smoke in the pub any more?

Quacking right along...

Incredulous as it might seem, its true Sir, some Women in Ireland find it  flattering to be called a Bird. they think its a compliment to be referred to as a Bird, i dont know why but they do

Speaking as an Irish Chicken, Bird or Honey.   If any man addressed me in that way, I would take him down, and not in a way that he would enjoy.    I have never been called any of those names, so either Waterford men are different from Dubs'  or I am one scary Irish lass.

Out of curiosity, how do men like to be addressed in Ireland?

Try Mick, Paddy or Tommy and you've got a considerable section of Irish males covered.

Also don't forget 'how's the craic?' (pronounced crack)

Never ever say 'pogon mi thonn', it just ends badly every time.

Wise advice from Stella, as usual! [8D]

I am a bit free with the terms of endearment when I am fond of a person, but they do have to be my FRIENDS first, and I would expect the same courtesy in return.  I do enjoy the laugh when someone addresses me too familiarly from the outset, but I am easily amused.

No your not one bit scary. Your just part of at the very least a large minority of Women who do not like to be called a Bird. But there are those who do

What on earth is 'pogon mi thonn'???

lobodomslavery -> RE: Is it disrespectful to address a Domme as Honey , Chicken, Bird etc (11/16/2008 10:18:57 AM)

it literally means kiss my ass , not very nice particularly to a Lady, not an advisable form of addressing someone, needless to say this is not taken kindly by any Lady, Bird or no

Calling a woman you are in a relatonship with is fine and most women like it..in a relationship or at least a very close friendship.

Calling a total stranger or someone you don't know very well..is disrespectful.

When a complete stranger calls me a "term of endearment" it makes me think he still is living in an age where women were thought of as less instead of an equal human being.

Well, you could also offer to slap/beat/whip him until he pronounces "Tá mo bhríste trí" the right way or figures out what it means ;)

Usako -> RE: Is it disrespectful to address a Domme as Honey , Chicken, Bird etc (11/16/2008 10:53:01 AM)

I'd be highly confused being called a bird or chicken but that's a culture thing. However, I don't get bent out of shape if someone uses some lil nickname or so. As long as it's a respectful term at least! But then there is the sticky slope about well which term, what tone its used in, what context, how it's meant, etc.

I think until you know the person you're addressing, especially when trying approach a dominant woman or man, just to be respectful. Use their name and feel them out. Oh, and "hi Ya , how are u" would get no reply from me, mainly because of the chat speak.
