As we've seen from the Dems over the last eight years?  Ya'll set the bar that low, deal with it.

No, it was Bush himself who positionated the bar that low.

~stef

Don't change the subject, Stef.  If the Dems now think they are going to claim some self-righteous position about speaking respect for the office, I plan to spend four years knocking them off the hobby horses, and getting their shining aluminum foil armor all scuffed and dirty.

        Fucking hypocrisy.

Speaking of hypocrisy, were you as righteously indignant when we spent eight years listening to Clinton being called Bubba and maligned as a redneck?

Personally, I always thought the notion of Clinton as a redneck was comical.

What redneck gets a $400 haircut?

The word refers to claiming a set of values and attitudes one does not actually exhibit, Stef.  Like people who have spent eight years either calling the President a chimp and worse, or standing there silently smirking when it happened, suddenly deciding that the occupant of the office deserves an automatic measure of courtesy.

That I happen to agree with that position is irrelevant.  For them it merely a value of convenience.  Hypocrisy.

Perhaps another thread, if this needs to be gone over with links to reporters calling a sitting President a monkey on live television?

I can understand this point of view. But to lump all of us as compliciant is also irrational.

I've been critical of the guy for over eight years. But here, in my blog, and in my columns, he's always been "Bush" at worst.

Anyone can call names. Evidence counts for much more--on all sides.

Funny, this talk of "experience" in Washington.
I think that's a large part of the problem, there's too many people in Washington with too much experience.
Wouldn't Hillary Clinton be taking a demotion as S.O.S?
At least as senator she can now vote on things.
And, if she pisses Obama off she sure will be doing a lot of travel!
"Hillary, the third assistant minister of cocoanuts in Berundi -Berundi passed on, express my condolances to their king."
"Hillary, back from Tibet so soon?"
"Hillary, how's that "penguin report" comming?"
"What "penguin report?"
"On Antartica!" "Start packing!"
Oh yeah, she'll be a "globalist" alright!
Let's just hope she's not as bad as Madeleine "Eastern Europe Needs a Marshall Plan" Albright!
I for one would prefer to see a lot of new faces in Washington.

Depends on which 8 years you mean, RML.  Once they leave office, anything goes.  I haven't yet decided how I will refer to ex-President Bush.

During his administration?  Of course.  This is a value I was raised with.

The ones with money, of course.  You've never seen a Dateline or something about white trash who won the lottery?

I think CL is correct, Hillary does not have alot of experience, she has a seat of the Arms Service Commitee.  She is a lawyer by profession and mostly in contracts not in foreign agreements.  What many are concerned is that is not Hillary it is the Clintons, she gets picked Bill will have a position in the State Department as well.  And there is the conflict, the Clintons has numerous business dealing with foreign government, their biggest is China.  They could use their new found position it influnce and personally profit from Trade Agreements Hillary would be handling, and remember their shining star when Bill was President, ...the one that cost hundreds of US jobs.
