But there'd be havoc on the roads! The drivers would hit 60 in under 3 seconds and then fall asleep at the wheel, just when the engine had gotten warmed up too.

I've never paid that much attention to the name of the car before. Right now I am driving a Sentra. Not sure what that is supposed to mean.

What on earth is your point?  The facts are these.  It was originally named Pajero.  That turned out to be a dumb name.  So it was renamed Montero in countries where people actually speak Spanish and know that it means "wanker."

Do YOU know more about what happened--and if so, why are you being so argumentative and coy about this?  Just say what you know.

That still is not evidence that it was introduced as the Pajero in Spain (nor as you originally asserted, "never sold very well in Spain")...

but rather that it was just marketed as the Montero in those countries (as I originally asserted), and the Pajero in other (non-Spanish speaking) countries.

So...actually you don't.

I've already presented what I know.  Did you click on the links?

Saying the same thing over and over doesn't make it true.  You have no evidence that it was "originally" named Pajero in Spain, contrary to your original claim of low sales there.

Also, I note that you've changed your tune.  At least you're getting closer in agreement with me.

Your "links" were (1) a Wikipedia article about the Pajero that said nothing about when the vehicle was renamed Montero; and (2) something from Snopes about the Mitsubishi Starion...that also says the car was RENAMED Montero.

Anyway, I'm done with this.  Whatever you're arguing about, you won by exhaustion.

Same thing I've been saying all along.  You claimed Mitsubishi marketed the Pajero as such in Spain, and that due to low sales the name there was then changed to Montero.  I asked for your evidence of this, and you keep screaming "RENAMED" in all caps as if that's some kind of proof.

You also claimed that all of the Marketing people at Mitsubishi people were too dumb to know (or research) the Pajero name before rolling it out in Spain.

You are aware that many companies (automobile and otherwise) market the same product under different names, yes?

Meh, and you haven't produced any evidence that it was never sold as Pajero in Spain.  You've just asserted that it wasn't, and asked ME to find evidence to the contrary.

If something is renamed, that means it originally had a different name.  That's the difference between "named" and "renamed."

And frankly I DO believe that Mitsubishi was unaware in 1982 of the connotations of the name "Pajero."  None of your browbeating is going to change my mind about that.  Your own link from Snopes implies the same.

So "Anyway I'm done with this" was a falsehood too?

You made the low sales claim, you're the one that needs to provide evidence.  Not me.  You have yet to do so.

As for "renaming", you are aware that many companies (automobile and otherwise) market the same product under different names, yes?

Every year they'd have redesign it to be smaller and tighter....
