Yes, they are. The human hand is more potent, and the human body more fragile, than you want to believe.

| think I'd rather stick with the main point of the story than get involved in the gun debate.

And the main point for me is that when a man intervenes in any argument between two women it almost invariably goes pear-shaped.

And if you put guns in the hands of everyone.

Incidents like this would happen practically everyday.

The numbers show otherwise.

In states where concealed carry is permitted, crimes against persons and violent crimes decreased.  In states/cities where handgun ownership was restricted or removed, the opposite happened

This is the second time in this post someone has referred to these numbers and statistics.

This is also the second time in this post I'm asking to see the documentation that supports these claims.

General Reply -

I think that in the near future certain large stores and shopping malls will have metal detectors and security at the doors like you see at courthouses.  The insurance companies will want a solution like this and of course the additional costs will be passed long to the majority of shoppers who do not shoot each other.  Same as the cost of controlling shop-lifting gets passed along in higher prices.

Assholes shooting each other = 2
Shoppers who fled for their lives = 0
They did not gain but came out alive.

Yeah your right, and the States really kicked the Vietcongs ass didn't they?

Actually, South Vietnam did not fall until after the states pulled out.  The US is credited as winning nearly every major engagement.  The war was lost by politicians and hippies, not the guys with the guns.  Of course, comparing warfare to personal defense, as we both know, is comparing apples to terds.

Bingo!
It's a heavy responsibility to carry a firearm. One that these two morons in the Toys-R-Us took a little too lightly.
Look where it got them.

And if guns were eliminated.

This wouldnt've happened.

And if you put guns in the hands of everyone.

Incidents like this would happen practically everyday.

And the fact that people still argue against gun control and such

Just proves my point about this having all to do with personal ideology and not about the greater good.

out of curiosity, lets say we do ban guns.  and all law obiding citizens turn theirs in.  can you guess what will happen?

now, lets look at this from the standpoint of a criminal mind.  everyone is giving up their guns.  hey!! its party time!! all i have to do is wait them out, then, its ripe for the picking time!

as far as i am concerned, at this point, people are safer because they may have a gun... the criminals just dont know who does or who doesnt.  once they can figure out who dont, its already too late.

it must be nice to live in a country where guns are banned.. even from criminals... how did you guys manage to make criminals suddenly abide by the law?

Every day people shoot other people in this country. .If it wasn't with a pistol it would be with a knife, an ice pick or a shovel.
These two guys that killed each other were supposedly gang members and it's a good thing that they are now worm food.
There was no thought of the public when they each pulled a weapon and fired to kill. I wonder if ballistic checks on the weapons    involved would find that they were used in the murder of other people and other crimes?
The wonderful thing about this is that two killers took themselves out and no innocent people shopping for the kids Christmas gift were killed.  If every gang altercation ended this way it would really be "a wonderful world".

As popeye said: it is the job of cowards who hide cringing behind a tree while people are shot dead in a school.

And I'm 100% sure you are going to have the balls to say that to the next cop you meet in person.

Right?

Or does your "bravery" just extend to voicing your opinions while hiding behind a computer screen?

Oh? Then your perceptions are not to be relied upon. Mine on the other hand are always correct.

I am not brave at all. I am a coward. And that is a fact, not an opinion. Ask any Gorean.

Here is a review of a study done at the University of Chicago in the late 1990's by John R. Lott.  The review is conducted by two Professors of Law, William K. Townsend at Yale Law School, and John J. Donohue III at Stanford Law School.

I have the utmost respect for law enforcement. But let's face it, for the most part it's reactive...not proactive. If I happen to find myself in a bad situation and law enforcement happens to be there, great. If not, I'll defend myself and my loved ones, thank you. I'll be sure to call the police afterwards so they know where to find the body. Because, God forbid it does come down to a "him or me" situation...it's not gonna be me. I'm going home that night.
