you actually really mean it when you say it, even though thinking about it later you realize it couldn't possibly have been true?

Yes, I'm bored today.  Waiting for football time.

If I think the cat is upstairs, and I tell C the cat is upstairs only to find out that the cat is actually outside... I didn't lie to him. *shrug*

You can't help if things change.

It's not a lie; it's an error.  It's okay to be wrong as long as you admit you made a mistake.  A lie is a deliberate deception and never okay.

Nope. I do not think it's a lie if you say something believing it's true, and then find out you were wrong.

So, if I say "Yes, I can play with you (generic) without getting emotionally involved" and then find out wow, I am really, really emotionally involved, that's an error?

EDIT:

honey... as long as you're honest about the change in your feelings.. it's not a lie.

(and prep yourself for the fallout, if any..*BIGGEST HUGS*)

Moon, it isn't a lie if you actually believe it in your core when you say it but most know they are lying when they say that.  I haven't had anyone lie to me in that way but I have had them make that mistake.  It is why I am so reticent about allowing casual relationships.

The fallout has been horrific.  However I do feel this is my fault.  So now what I need to do is put on my big girl panties and assess what I did wrong so that it doesn't happen again.  Probably this shouldn't have gone in PORS.

BIG HUGS - I'll bring the icecream and chocolate and sit with you in the fallout shelter until it is safe to come out, if you want?

Sometimes our heart gets more involved than we ever expect it to.  We didn't set out to have that happen, and it is not necessarily something that needs to be guarded against.  If things like jealousy came out of it then you can guard against that, but simply caring for someone more than you expected you would is not wrong and not something that you want to make sure never happens again.  I'm sorry you had bad fallout from it.

Yes please!  I just defrosted the freezer so we've plenty of room for ice cream.  On the other hand I am also sick so wear your biohazard mask too!

Have to agree.  Not a lie, just an error or a 'whoops'.  They happen, no matter how much we don't want them to *HUG*

If you tell a lie in the forest and no one is around to hear you will the tree still fall over?

Not many forests left sadly I blame nursery rhymes for giving them a bad reputation.

and or fairy tales even, since I don’t know many nursery rhymes about forests...
