dollparts85 -> People lying about their weight on profile? (11/29/2008 5:00:24 PM)

I know a lot of people put their weight a bit or even a lot lower than it actually is on personal ads...but I'm honest about my weight (285 lbs) and I had this man write me and he thought *I* was lying about my weight and making it more than it is to scare men off. WTF...why would I do that? And is 285 lbs really that big that someone would think that it's not possible for me to weigh that much? It's not like it's 500 pounds or something. :(

People lie about everything on the internet, [:D] plus- you only have face shots in your profile, which are never going to make you look 285.

Good advice. Thank you. I've been trying to not think about it but it keeps coming back into my thoughts.

Ignore them simple as that. Some people simply have nothing better to do than try and make others feel like crap. Why give a perfect stranger so much power or control over how you feel?

I have -not- listed my weight before because I did not want the slew of emails from doms who actively seek out women under a certain weight limit and then get all stupid over "tiny" girls.

Frankly, I would chalk it up to ignorance. Just about anything that happens online can be chalked up to ignorance in some way.

Why do people constantly weigh themselves? Weight is just a number and if it helps choose a different unit of measurement.

I'd have to guess my weight to fill out that part of the profile.

I'm not about to weigh myself just to fill out some form online.

Good point. I need to try to work on that.

As much grief as posting a higher weight can cause, anyone who thinks that someone would inflate the number on purpose has not dealt with the stigma of having a weight problem most likely.  Of course, there are a few that may get some sort of thrill out of the anonymous humilation, but I would guess they are in a small minority.

I told a guy how much I actually weighed and he told me I should start an exersise routine yada yada yada and seemed pretty much okay with it... then, I told him how people usually estimate lower(I've got quite a bit of muscle in my legs) and he made this huge deal out of it, doubting people could be so far off, and stopped talking to me.

simpleplan2 -> RE: People lying about their weight on profile? (11/29/2008 6:05:56 PM)

At least he stopped talking to you...saved you the trouble of blocking him :)

ShaktiSama -> RE: People lying about their weight on profile? (11/29/2008 6:08:33 PM)

I deliberately put the maximum possible weight that the system allows on my profile.  Why?  Because 1) it makes sure that I will always be absent from any profile search that uses a real weight limit, no matter what it is, 2) because "999 lbs" is a hilarious way to say "I really don't care enough about my weight to know exactly what it is--why don't you just assume I'm a fat-ass and move on, if you actually care about these things?"  [;)]

YourhandMyAss -> RE: People lying about their weight on profile? (11/29/2008 6:09:15 PM)

I get weighed because I'd like to see if my efforts to loose weight are paying off.  The numbers on the scale show to some extent if my efforts are, or are not paying off. I do not however get weighed to fill out some form online. As you put it.

Weights not really just a number when it pertains to health. I should weigh like 160 and I am 330. One time years and years ago I was well on my way to 400, and would of reached 400 if I had not of stopped the road I was on.

That's severely obese by medical standards, and by my own standards I am not happy with my weight.

I don't weigh myself constantly, but I do check every 3 months when I am at the doctor for my birthcontrol injection.

Real_Trouble -> RE: People lying about their weight on profile? (11/29/2008 6:30:27 PM)

People lie about everything.

The sooner you realize that, the better off you will be; I'm probably close to the far end of skeptics, but I'm surprised when people post profiles where they are not lying materially in multiple places, not the other way around.

I would never be surprised if someone accuses you of lying (impolite as it may be).  It's more likely any random person is lying about something than not, after all.
