Actually, my husband does the sweeping.. and yes, we bought a new Dyson last week.  He loves it!

Give the vacuum cleaner first (the let down) then the next gift is a vac bed (suprise!)

a vacuum as a gift would piss me off. Gifts should reflect the personality of the one on the recieving end...and a vacuum is rather crude.

i just bought my second Oreck. The first one should have lasted for years but the motor blew when it sucked up a fork.

I was going to ask for one this year, but then I moved and now I don't need one. And MistresseLotus, I was looking at the Dysons. Its nice to hear positive feedback on it. It's probibly what I will get when the time comes.

LOL Holls!

Glad to hear the Dysons are good.  I never owned one personally, we just bought one on behalf of a friend who for some reason couldn't get Sears Canada to ship to her...  We were boggled at the various models.

When I was in service to the Household, during my training period, my first Christmas with the House I was gifted with a new $1000 vacuum cleaner... it made my life easier, did a better job, and was purty to boot.... so, was that a gift... heck yes. Now, if my Darling did that these days, I'd be insulted. Go figure. *laughs* Of course, if anyone wants to give me a PS3 and Final Fantasy......

Rarely am I the one to clean the floors. They are all hard surface anyway. Broom, Swifter and wet mop type thing. However, I did receive a vacuum once. I also received a crock pot that same year. Never again.

Is it personalized if the tag says, "Because nothing sucks like you but this comes close"...?

Seriously??

I got a fantastic one 2 years ago, was very happy when I unwrapped my spiffy new vacuum (one specifically for pet hair removal, oh that baby rocked heh). It was also pretty darn pricey.

Personally I'm always happy to get a gift, even a practical one.. sometimes especially a practical one because I couldn't spend that sort of money on a vacuum myself.

I used to ride a broom... but found I liked the vibrations and speed of a vaccum better.  (hey don't blame me... I grew up listening to the Beach Boys!)  I could use a new flyin machine.

I like practical gifts. I would love and adore some small appliances for my birthday and for Solstice. But I am also a cook who adores working with food. I am, however, forced to recognize I don't NEED a thousand dollars worth of chocolate temperer. (grin) I don't need to make candy that often.

I'd love another Roomba. Sadly, mine doesn't work anymore. There are few things better than sitting on the couch watching a robot clean the floor AND terrorize my cat.

Great Clip!

Hubby bought me a dishwasher for our anniversary last year.  It's very nice.  I was sort of hoping for one that looked more like Leonardo DiCaprio... but this one functions.

Cute clip.  I have a nice Hoover bought last year specifically for pet hair like camille describes.  If giving a practical appliance type of gift do give something more romantic or sentimental or fun at the same time.

Two things on this.

First, when clip finished school here, I didn't even know where the vacuum cleaner was.  All I remembered was that it was yellow.

Second, a few years back I knew a wonderful guy from Okinawa.  He was completely thrilled with the American version of Christmas.  The lights and the trees and the gift giving.  One year, he gave his wife a vacuum cleaner for a Christmas present.  He slept on the couch for a month.  It took Me a long time to explain to him just exactly what the problem was.

I feel for every woman who would throw a shit-fit if their husband or boyfriend bought them a vacuum cleaner for Christmas or whatever. I would not be a happy subby if that was under our Christmas tree. Likewise, if I bought Mistress a thigh-blaster...I'd probably have to sleep in the auditorium at work for a couple of weeks. :-p

(I don't see what's wrong with RAM though. You can always use more RAM!)

Great clip! I doubt I would ever buy someone a Vacuum ever. Or would want one in return. I own one and it works great, but it was bought when I moved in to my new apartment. My pet probably cry if I got a new one and put it under the tree. Although I need cat bed for our cats...
