It all depends on how it's done. People do have a tendency to lead with the bad news. And bond over their complaints. If a journal entry is negative, but still shows some degree of insight or introspection, perspective, or thoughtfulness or humor or questioning, or something like that, that I think it can be fine. I don't *think* I'm a negative person (...am I?) , and yet I can carp with the best of them, it seems. There was some big church recently that challenged its members to not complain about anything for 21 days straight, and they all reported finding it an incredibly difficult task to do (many took over a year to put a 21 day streak together), but they also reported having adopted a more optimistic and hopefull mindset in the process. They would put a rubber band around one wrist, and if they caught themselves bitching (out loud - you still can think what you want) about something, they'd switch it to the other wrist. They've tried to take it out of the church setting and suggest the exercise to the public at large, and I've been curious about it. Thinking about it has made me realize how often I use ...negative "analysis" , let's say... in communication.
