Does a Lion eat a zebra because it is unhappy?

Has anyone asked a lion?

Well, it's not like he can go to the Ben & Jerry's store and eat a whole container of Chunky Monkey when he's unhappy.

Who's going to stop him?

Good point!

Vendaval -> RE: The human animal ? (12/6/2008 9:26:12 PM)

Much of human nature is invested in the ego and the presentation of self to others within the group.  Other animals will groom themselves and others within their group but only we have catwalks, super-models and a multi-million dollar fashion/beauty industry.  And we go from simple to drastic measures to modify and change our bodies.  You won't be seeing any liposuction surgeries or plastic surgery programs on the Animal Planet Channel.  Hell, we wash and deodorize our bodies and trim our fur to perfume our flesh and color our hair into socially acceptable standards.

(If you ever doubt how uncivilized we can be switch back and forth with the remote between the fans at a football game and a nature special on apes and chimpanzees.  Same behavior overall.)

Primitive people could be likened to animals, albeit human animals, because they lack civility, but is our civility just a mask for the animal beneath ?

MadAxeman -> RE: The human animal ? (12/6/2008 10:17:22 PM)

No it isn't. Not even remotely.
I do adhere to the view that we are higher animals, any other view seems foolish.
If we are to start comparing people and animals to machines as has been suggested, the differences are greater, not less.

Now the truth can be told.

We are inclined to be activated by instincts, emotions and base characteristics - such as fear, pride, glory - but then we have the capacity to use reason; as per 'Rule of Law', which is a much more civilised means of resolving our disagreements.

I wouldn't call it that RL. You did make a careless remark that upset me about being a BNP enabler by simply not using hyperbole and bombast to describe them. But I see that as in the past and it is has become obvious you are a little prone to colourful statements. My opinion of you has been adjusted to accomodate this. We are not enemies.

I'm upset.  I'm going to be rude to you on another thread in a couple of weeks.

MadAxeman -> RE: The human animal ? (12/7/2008 5:08:11 AM)

Fair enough, try and be better informed and able to sustain some relevancy. Facts make for better ammo than trying to project the ideas and attitudes for someone you don't know.

RealityLicks -> RE: The human animal ? (12/7/2008 5:12:54 AM)

Why didn't you simply make your point, if any, on the relevant thread instead of waiting till this one?  I'm quite happy to revisit the earlier thread if you like and to supply all the facts you can carry home in a hat.  Just try not to get so upset about things, this is the internet not the star chamber.

MadAxeman -> RE: The human animal ? (12/7/2008 5:29:37 AM)

I retain the right to get pissed at someone insinuating I'm a fucking racist. Try not throwing emotive remarks around without facts. You were repeatedly proved wrong in that thread, offensive too. It doesnt surprise me that you seek to trivialise your attitudes now.
Why don't you leave it alone?

RealityLicks -> RE: The human animal ? (12/7/2008 5:39:18 AM)

Read your remarks to me on this thread before accusing me of throwing emotive remarks at you.  You've done nothing else.

I stand by each of the statements I made on that thread and again, am more than happy to revisit them.  Far from trivialising my remarks, I am trivialising your current, wrong-headed response to them which you should have made at the time if they bothered you so much.

For the last time, point out to me the post which you have so many issues with instead of spewing more childish insults.  You have the choice between discussing them or behaving like a petulant teenager.  I won't hold my breath.

MadAxeman -> RE: The human animal ? (12/7/2008 5:45:45 AM)

Oh go on.

RealityLicks -> RE: The human animal ? (12/7/2008 6:56:24 AM)

Which post "upset" you so?  We can't have you "upset", can we?

cjan -> RE: The human animal ? (12/7/2008 7:05:26 AM)

Stop it , lads, you're behaving like, well...animals.

MadAxeman -> RE: The human animal ? (12/7/2008 7:08:05 AM)

Different animals I would suggest.

RealityLicks -> RE: The human animal ? (12/7/2008 7:17:14 AM)

CJan, I am trying to be reasonable and I'm not the one insulting this person at every turn but I'd rather finally put the matter to bed than subject you all to this for any longer than possible.  Trivial, I know, but I have a few minutes to kill.

MadAxeman -> RE: The human animal ? (12/7/2008 7:18:53 AM)

Try harder, it's obviously a stretch for you.

Termyn8or -> RE: The human animal ? (12/7/2008 7:35:15 AM)

This thread is starting to look like the bock beer commercial, with the antlered beasts knocking heads.

I think he prefers spraying urine.

cjan -> RE: The human animal ? (12/7/2008 9:18:27 AM)

*sigh*

Irony is seldom appreciated.
