You're right.......learning "about" something is not the same as experiencing it.

Yes, if you take a class and they don't provide you with time and opportunity to practice... during the class... you won't own it... all you own is your certificate.
Hypnosis, does not harm anyone. so don't be afraid to test what you read, if you read a book. Practice what it says and if it doesn't work get another book or a better subject or both. But keep practicing.
Even tho hypno can't hurt you, If you give or recieve negative suggestions you certianly won't do yourself any good however. ie avoid saying things like this will never work... or i can't do anything right... instead say i learned that didn't get the results i wanted, i will use another method... Every day in every way i get better and better.

That is a challenge for both sides--finding someone you can trust to experiment with. For the submissive there is certainly a risk that there will be some kind of abuse. For the dominant, you need to be careful not to ignite a sort of "stalker" instince in the submissive. Hypnosis can be rather addictive.

I have almost 25 years experience with doing hypnosis and almost that long with being a Dominant. The only danger I have found is when some subjects have the subconscious belief that they must obey any and Every suggestion given them. When you couple that with an immoral abusive Dominant... well, let us just say some ugly things have been known to happen ( emotionally and physically)

P.S. on a side note, does anyone know how to get rid of the "vanilla" designation that shows up by my screen name here?

Even when is aware of those clear dangers, there is always some risk when you open up and let someone in.

Having read the threads here on hypnosis I felt I needed to add to this. I am a professional stage hypnotist and have hypnotized 1000's over the past 15yrs. Let me tell you some myths and facts:
1) I wont do anything under hypnosis I would not normally do. Well yes and no. It really depends on a persons morals. But having said that I have seen people do some crazy things under hypnsis, I do past life and regressions as well.
2) Will reading a book on hypnosis make me able to hypnotize a person or for that matter be able to experience self hypnosis?..Well thats like telling someone who wants to learn to swim to go read a book, you really need an expert to guide you there.
3) Is hypnosis dangerous?...No, but with an untrained individual it can be.
4) Hypnosis is a very natural occurance, if you ever daydreamed before you experienced it.
5) Hypnosis by definition is a heightened state of awareness, its not sleep.
6) Are there people out there with bad intentions using hypnosis?..you bet.
7) Is hypnosis a great tool for relaxation? You bet..the #1 use of hypnosis is for pain control, now in a D/s world that can be interesting too!
8) Can everybody be hypnotized? yes to some extent, but some go deeper then others, and faster then others. As I always tell people you havta wanna be hypnotized, otherwise its not going to happen for you.
9) When I do shows the #1 reason people don't volunteer to come up on stage is that they fear they will not be in control, the reality is your always in control.
10) And last but not least a quote " Well I dont think I was in a trance because I could still hear things and feel things" If you can't hear things and feel things thats death, thats a different state. (Grinder & Bandler)

If your really interested in experiencing hypnosis or learning about it....contact me

wow......I have read all those things, but I appreciate the summarization. I wonder if there are more male hypnotists than female?

I dont know the numbers but when they have the national conventions from a stage hypnosis point of view more men then women, but from a hypnotherapy point of view I see more women then men doing it.

the thing one neglected to state is that actions ,are based on perceptions of what is going on aroung one , weighed against self considered norms. If one changes the perception of what is going on the actions they would do are adjusted against that believed perception. Yes one can under hypnosis do anything based on the implanted perception fed to them and their beliefe in that perception and its validity in relality for them

Is it safe to say that a submissive male looking for a dominant, hypnosis-oriented female would have a harder time in that search than the reverse?

Love the thought of hypno - am one of those that actually did get up on stage in two different shows and enjoyed it. You are aware the whole time - just a different feeling. Alot of fun, even if I did take alot of ribbing about it afterwards. Best of aloha to all.
