Do I believe in UFOs? Absolutely! I honestly believe that people do see things in the sky that are unusal and that they can't explain easily. Meteors, temerature inversions, swamp gas, unconventional aircraft seen at odd angles... you bet!

Do I think aliens are visiting us on a regular basis? No, not really. But I keep an open mind... if someone can show me some hard evidence, I'll be overjoyed to change my mind on the subject.

After all, it would be kinda nice to think that there might be some advanced worlds out there that we could ask advice from, and who are perhaps, looking out after the emerging ones like ourselves.

If I see something, no way would I report it, like why go though all the possible crap later if it did turn out to be something notable.

The other thing of course, is if what you witness is something real and not of this world, why report it, just look what happened to E.T, that should give you cause not to let the butchers loose.

It could even be a vimana.

Sure, report it here: http://www.nuforc.org/ maybe 20 other people are debating whether to report it also.

Considering that the oldest star yet found is 13.2 billion years old, our sun is approximately 4.57 billion years old.

Now, given the length of time it takes for a star to form, which is of course an approximation, figure the Galaxy is between 20 to 46 billion years old.

Now using the Drake equation, N = R* fp ne f l fi fc L
to determine the possibility of intelligent life in the galaxy, then the following conclusions can be reached.
Where:
  • R* is rate of formation of suitable stars (stars like the Sun) in the Milky Way galaxy
  • fp is the fraction of those stars that have planets
  • ne is the number of planets capable of sustaining life around each of those stars having planets
  • fl is the fraction of planets capable of sustaining life that actually evolve life
  • fi is the fraction of those planets where live has evolved that evolve intelligent life
  • fc is the fraction of planets with intelligent life that develop the capability to communicate
  • L is the fraction of the planet's life during which the intelligent life can communicate
Now, using some fairly conservative numbers, we then come up with:

  • If we let fp = fl =  fi = f c = 0.5 (middle of the road), then N = 2,500
  • If we let fp = fl =  fi = f c = 0.1 (one smallish side), then N = 20
  • If we let fp = fl =  fi = f c = 1 (their maximum), then N = 20,000
Which means there could be between 20 and 20,000 intelligent species in the galaxy.

Now, considering the average advancement time for civilizations to rise, using our own as a guide, and again, being conservative, that means there could be 2 to 400 races far more advanced than we are.

Now, while Einstein did say that the speed of light was finite, he also admitted the possibility of loop holes in that particular law of physics, found in his law of special relativity.

Hawking theorized that wormholes could link various points in the galaxy and the universe, or even parallel universes.

Which then brings us to the Mexican physicist Miguel Alcubierre, who proposed a method of stretching space in a wave which would in theory cause the fabric of space ahead of a spacecraft to contract and the space behind it to expand.

quote:

The ship would ride this wave inside a region known as a warp bubble of flat space. Since the ship is not moving within this bubble, but carried along as the region itself moves, conventional relativistic effects such as time dilation do not apply in the way they would in the case of a ship moving at high velocity through flat spacetime. Also, this method of travel does not actually involve moving faster than light in a local sense, since a light beam within the bubble would still always move faster than the ship; it is only "faster than light" in the sense that, thanks to the contraction of the space in front of it, the ship could reach its destination faster than a light beam restricted to travelling outside the warp bubble. Thus, the Alcubierre drive does not contradict the conventional claim that relativity forbids a slower-than-light object to accelerate to faster-than-light speeds. However, there are no known methods to create such a warp bubble in a region that does not already contain one, or to leave the bubble once inside it, so the Alcubierre drive remains a theoretical concept at this time.

Using the 3+1 formalism of general relativity, the spacetime is described by a foliation of space-like hypersurfaces of constant coordinate time t. The general form of the Alcubierre metric is:

Now, with all that said, and taking into consideration the jokes already being thrown around by those who seem to be more than willing to believe that we are alone in the universe, I submit that we would be fools to believe that we are alone in the Universe.

I would also suggest that those who wish to joke and attack the beliefs of others read the Hindu Veda, the Piri Ries maps (which show Antarctica free of ice, and uses the geographic position of the Great Pyramid as the center, and finally, to duplicate the distortion, the reference altitude would have to be outside the atmosphere)

And when finished, please explain, using scientific proof how the Veda can discribe a nuclear war, as does the epic of Gilgamesh, as does various meso american cultures, and written 4000 years before the nuclear age, and finally, the various unexplained geologic locations around the planet which show evidence of considerable amount of heat, enough to make glass similiar to that near atomic test sites.

And when you can do that, and please remember, few accreditied physicists deny the possibility of intelligent races that can and have visited our worthless rock, convince them that it is all a bunch of mass psychosis with no possibility of ever happening.

Now, my personal opinion is that we have and are being visited, for observational reasons, in the hope that we as a race either grow up to a point where we no longer endeavor to destroy our own habitat and each other, or to know when they need to exterminate us to prevent us from spreading our insanity beyond our solar system.

I live 20 minutes from here. It's not uncommon for lots of people to see strange things.
Of course there's also a huge airforce/national guard airport nearby, so usually I assume it's the military lying about stuff.

They have all the legally required numbers and markings in all the right places.  It's just that they use black paint for those as well.  Black helicopters aren't even all that secret.  I've seen them appear and perform at airshows.

I was once with a friend who had a great time spotting a UFO.  I saw the amber, anti-collision light of an F-117 on a training exercise, but he had no idea what it was.

Best not report it to the government. (It is probably one of their own craft anyway.) Nor to a ufo group. Simply write a report about it and put it out on the internet.

I often laughed at the nice aerodynamic shape of those saucers people see.

For the last year and a half I have lived about 1/2 mile from a small community airport which houses a helicopter flight training school and a skydiving club.  Being semi-retired I have spent a lot of time sitting in the shade in front of my place watching the helicopters come and go, the various airplaines taking off and landing, and the occasional group of skydivers falling from the sky.  Also in that time I have seen what, to me, were UFOs since I could not identify them on four different occasions.

The first one I saw was a silvery ball.  There was a fairly brisque wind blowing pretty much due East, but the ball was traveling smoothly and steadily to the South at a right angle to the wind, with no sound.

The second was a darker ball, much higher than the first, traveling with the wind, but going much faster than the wind.  Again with no sound.

The third was on a somewhat hazy day.  Mountains, 20 miles away were easily visible, but somewhat hazed.  Looking to the south-east I saw an elongated object moving fairly slowely.  Judging by the amount of haze as comparred to the mountains I reasoned the object to be about 5 or 6 miles away, and it had to be HUGE.

The last time I saw UFOs I heard an airplane cut it engines and knew skydivers were jumping so I looked up to see if I could spot them.  I didn't see the skydivers right away, but did see the plane go into a tight spiral manuver, which is unusual.  I kept watching for the skydivers to open their 'chutes when drifting into view from my left were two globes that appeared to be somewhat lower than the airplane.  The globes were flying in formation...one in front with the second following and offset from the first, and with no sound.  Eventually the skydivers opened their parachutes and appeared to be lower than the globes.  At the rate the UFOs were traveling I reasoned that I had a good 30 or 40- seconds before they would be out of site.  I ran to my front door where just inside I kept my binoculars.  It took only maybe five seconds, but by the time I grabbed them the globes had disappeared.

As far as reporting them, no, I didn't, but I think if i was going to I would probably just report them to a local radio station to see if other listeners had seen anything as well.  I think that I would only call the police if I saw something that I thought had crashed or something.

I've posted on this subject before... the craft reported in the article linked to in the following post is very similar to the one I saw, back around 1990 or 1991.

http://www.collarchat.com/m_1856887/mpage_1/key_ufo/tm.htm#1856887

And here's a post where I described what I saw very early that one morning...

As to UFOs to the OP....   maybe they heard about some big sale at the mall????   :-D

Actually, they are probably flying home to shop. It's too dangerous to do that here.

The aerodynamic shape would make sense because they maneuver through atmospheres like ours.

Further, I believe that they put us here. They adjusted the Earth's orbit and rotation, they introduced our flora and our fauna, they manipulated our DNA... and the reason they did it is so that we can be their insurance policy. If anything happens to them, they now know that life has a chance to continue on.

And they're probably fostering life on many other planets as well.

Plenty of descriptions of fantastic machines and people who can fly in 'myths' from all over the world, even weapons that bear a striking resemblance to what we know now. I find it hard to believe that different parts of the world at different times were bullshitting about the things they recorded, as they were most likely recorded by the intellects of the time. Even NASA has an interest in the Sanskrit Vedas.

Maybe there is more to our world than we know yet, to that I keep an open mind, but feel those that are constantly with us, the gods of old perhaps will reveal themselves when it is we learn the true nature of our being here.

Various NASA astronauts and many, many professional pilots and air traffic control officials have reported close encounters with extraterrestrial aircraft. Average people though, we go through our days without ever looking up at the sky, and we generally sleep through our nights when the bright lights of visiting alien ships could otherwise capture our attention.

Humm, well my post just went poof. I did report it but, not to a Gov site or anything like that. I also found a site that keep records of sightings. I was amazed at the sighting in my area. Very close to me as well.
Anyway, hope this post makes it.

I was told by a source that it was possibly "Twinkling Stars." Was advised to watch again same time and see if it happens.

There is a flaw in that advice, while the idea is sound, the time reference isn't.

Star positions change relative to the earth as earth moves through its orbital path.  Hence the reason that astronomical charts also include time correction tables.

I believe other species visit this planet all the time, in search of intelligent life.

I believe they tend to leave rather disappointed.

As far as NASA detecting a UFO before it even enters our atmosphere....if they have the technology to find us and get to us from wherever it is they come from, I'm sure they have the technology to elude our primitive early detection technology
