I have no need to be transgendered or whatever else, and I know I will never - not in a million years barring some bizarre genetic and medical developments that I dont think I'd want to be part of anyway - be a woman either (whatever one of those is). I'm quite happy being me, and me just happens to be at the female end of the spectrum.

The OP has raised some important points about the differences between what looks like the same thing from the outside - but in reality its as difficult to be black and white about all this as it is to be black and white about what a woman is.

I do understand your issues and empathise.

No, it is not up to all of us to enforce anything on this site. It is up to those that own and control it to manage it however they wish.

For me, when communicating with people on here, honesty is the primary concern. Everything else takes a back seat. If the communication is working, the labels matter much less. I want to know what the label you choose, means to you, not whether or not anyone else is using the same one in the same way.

Well, I don't know what type of search parameters you're entering, or perhaps it's where you live, but so far, I haven't knowingly run across ANYONE in my "search for a male" that turned out to be a woman.

I wonder, perhaps if you're confusing the term transexual with transgendered as my definition of transgendered is actually quite different than what you've stated, and has virtually nothing to do with any intentions to brave sex-reassignment surgery, hormone therapy, yada yada yada.

Ask ten random people how they define transgendered folks and I seriously dobut you're going to get too many answers that match. Why would tht be any different with this website?

If you simply would like everyone else here to change how they view themselves to meet your definitions of who is what and what is who, then I wish you all the luck in that. But I'll tell you, you're wasting valuable time in that endeavor. My best advise to you is to send a support request to the site admins and request the gender category be expanded so there are simply more options. Other than that, I'd say you're pretty much out of luck in separating yourself categorically from the other 99% of us... whatever-we-ares.

As far as the OP:
I guess my profile searches are different than yours, but I have a hard time believing that "transgender" is a label that a lot of people are really looking to stick on themselves for kicks. I have seen a number of male profiles that mentioned that they were crossdressers; a number with "CD" or "TV" in the screen name, and so on. My assumption is that if someone understands the term transgender, they know whether or not it applies to themselves. If they are using it incorrectly, they probably don't understand the term.

But, at the end of the day, it is up to the individual to determine if the label does or does not fit, and you (OP) don't get to choose for them. Sorry!

And for what it's worth, I think they should have an "Other- See Below" box, as that's probably what I'd choose for myself, as I'm somewhere in the "Male with a but"/"Transgender with an except" area with Otter and pinniped, which I guess leaves me as a manatee, or maybe some kind of crab?

You can't standardize for *everything* when it comes to human behavior, for damn sure.

I've got a suggestion to the OP.

Be comfortable with who you are. Allow others the same.

I'm a transgendered female.. female is who I am, the transgendered label is an adjective which relates to the noun, rather like disabled. I'm not interested in claiming to be the same as a natural born female, I'm not and never will be.

I have two interlocking patterns of DNA hence I'm not a transsexual, nor am I intersexed in the manner that most people understand. I use the label transgendered because I am transgendered and leave it at that. I'm no less female than a natural born woman, for I am also naturally born and female, however I was just born incomplete.

Being transgendered isn't black and white, which often poses a problem for those who believe that we are all part of a binary gender system based on male and female and therefore black and white, but this is a simplistic view of the human race and doesn't take into account such things as mosaicism, which we all suffer from to some degree. Do you not think that women have certain masculine characteristics and some men have feminine ones?
