I would've tossed out a pregnant illegal alien to make room for the guy until some sort of arraingments could be made. Actually under most regulations I think the guy should've been transferred to a public hospital. They are not supposed to release someone who can't care for themselves into a situation where they will not be cared for. Actually the really full story is probably not being told. Imagine the convo in the van, they would drop the guy off probably anywhere, but perhaps being so alienated from friends and family he might have said "Just drop me off on fucking skid row". We don't know. Years ago one of the daytime TV bitches, like Springer or somebody did a show on the homeless and it turns out that some of them actually do have a place they could go, they just don't want to go there. I know such a homeless person. He stops over about once every two weeks to play my guitars and suck down a few of my beers. He could go stay with his son, but he won't. He can't stand kids, and we are talking about his own grandkids. I don't know if this actually qualifies as a mental illness, but it certainly is an aberration to say the least. He is not the brightest bulb on the tree, but he does have a skill. His brother actually had nowhere to go and shared a nice spot under a bridge for the summer. When it started getting cold the lited on a shelter, which is fairly good. You get three hots and a cot, and though you have to be in at a certain time every night, not being there one night does not cost you your bed, locker etc. They require that you actively seek work or training, and they provide a phone so you have a callback number to put on job apps and such. They also provide bus passes to get to training, job interviews and whatever. Maybe he is better off there than with his son, who he says mainly wants to use him as a babysitter all the time. Then he can't go anywhere, to look for a job for example. All the guy wants is a sleeping room, food and guitar. He wants a job so badly that he'll take anything. He used to be a semiskilled facrory worker, setting up die casting machines and things like that. He was not the grunt who pushed the pedal to make a part, he was the one who made the pedal work. But we have alot less of that type of work in this country now. Mark my words - We are going to see more of this. Times do have to get worse before they can get better. Looking out for number one is no longer going to be an option for the selfish. It will be a tool of those who survive. Welcome to Earth, third rock from the sun. T
