This is the place to whine and cry about your winter blues! Or to brag, depending on your situation. I'll be the first to go:

DAMN IT, A SNOW PLOW WOKE MY SORRY ASS UP THIS MORNING, AND IT'S MY DAY TO SLEEP IN!!!

So after the snow plow went by I was laying there in bed thinking, "Wait a second. SNOW PLOW??? The weatherman said it was only supposed to snow two inches last night!"

So I jumped up and looked outside I said OH SHIT, and it was still coming down hard. It looks like I'm gonna have some serious shoveling to do if I want to get my economy car out of the driveway, and damn it, wouldn't you know - my four-wheel-drive is in the shop.

A lot of people are getting it hard - here's a quick look at thew news:

The snow in Aspen just keeps on coming, but it may be too cold to enjoy it by Saturday.

Another winter storm will cross the Midwest into the Northeast over the balance of the weekend, followed by a blast of arctic air. Meanwhile, a storm that will create blizzard conditions in the Northwest could cause trouble in the Midwest Tuesday and the East on Christmas Eve day.

We've had ice last week, and the low is supposed to get to around zero tonight.  Wind chill's going to be around -10 to -20 overnight through Monday morning.

Tuesday through Tuesday night should get us an ice/snow event.

But, how is the snowboarding...   (j/k).

We might have close to ten inches of snow before the day is over here, down in the valley. The ski resorts are getting way more than that, and so people are actually flying in...

Not everyone hates the snow and the cold.

Is it powdery snow, or that nasty wet snow that feels like shoveling cement?

It's cold here too, close to zero overnight, and the blustery wind we're experiencing right now really does bite in this weather. They're saying here that the temp could get up to freezing and then the snow will turn into rain, and then into freezing rain overnight... so I know how you're feeling!

I've lived here all of my life and so driving in these conditions is a yawner for me, until I have a near miss with someone who just moved up here from, say.. sunny Southern California, who has never driven on ice before...

Then I'm wide awake!

We had about two inches of powdery before, but what we're getting right now is wetter, and so it's probably going to have a frozen crust on top of it by the end of the day. So to answer your question, wet and dry cement...

Fun!

let's see - i've shoveled snow on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning ...again on Friday morning ...now i'm staying indoors because it's too cold outside.

it's too early for this type of mid-January/February weather but i'm prepared for it.

Ya'll can keep that darned white crap. Had enough of it when I finally learned why my Dad had such colorful language after he cleared the walk off out front. It's T-shirt weather here.

So far this morning I got up at about 5, went onto the front porch in my shorts, t-shirt, and slippers. Admired the quiet and was given a rousing good morning by a few of my roosters but that good for nothing Pit-bull/German shepard of mine didn't even raise his head at the ruckus. While I was enjoying the quiet of the predawn darkness I heard momma nature calling so I extracted my firehose, washed down my "4 o'clock" bed and went off to get a cup of that "carbon remover" I attempt to pass off as coffee.

Let's see.  We haven't had any new snow for the last 2 days..if we have I haven't seen it.  Although the snow we do have it blowing all over everywhere.  The wind is blowing 20 MPH..and there are snow drifts on the highways.  In some places visibility is down to 1/4th of a mile due to blowing snow.
I had to put the car in 4 wheel drive to get out of the driveway today because of the drift that has built up there.  No sens in snow blowing it...because with the wind its just going to come back.
Oh and it is minus 2 outside on top of it all.

People are starting to worry we won't have enough places to pile up the snow.  I can't imagine that happening.

I throw dried corn under a trailer that's out in my pasture for the wild pheasants around here, and just saw one go under there through my binoculars, which reminds me...

For those of us who are snowed in and where the temperatures are plummeting, it's a good time to feed the wild birds as they may be having a difficult time finding food right now, and also to make sure there is water available for any outside pets or other critters that may be around, or that may be coming around.

There is at least 4"-5" out there, all covered over in a sheet of ice from the freezing rain last night.  Took the dog out for a walk & he hated it!!  He finally peed not far from the bottom of the steps & ran all the way back up!  I can't even find my car, let alone get it out of my parking spot & down the "mountain" to work.  I love living up here, but this weather has made me miss soooo much work!  I don't get paid to sit here & look out at the white.  The kitten has lost his mind & is leaping onto the kitchen counter.  The dawg is just going to sleep till it warms up!!

Very gray and dismal here  Temperature dropped more than 10 degrees since yesterday, so I may have to put on long pants when I go out.

9" fell through yesterday and another 1"-3" falling now.
It's beautiful, the cats won't go outside, it's taller than the dogs are (can only now see their tails), and the pantry is stocked.  Only damper is having to shovel out around the doors and off the roof a bit.

I wear insulated coveralls, insulated gloves, insulated socks and boots and a stocking cap when I go out in the weather I'm having now.

My pipes are frozen... so much for heat tape and other preventitive measures!  The fridge went down and while I tried to find something I could afford... while using the outside to cool what food is left... now I have no water and could have new busted pipes down there!  The washer pump is leaking... the dryer was clogged but not now... I sit here warm in side and am glad the heater is still on! lol

(smile)... it is still a good day.  Cold and scary... but damn if I am going to let it get to me! lol

I heard that this was coming and I spent two evenings last week insulating my pipes and my basement and my pump house and so far all is good. I'm a maintenance tech so I did have to thaw some frozen pipes for a customer, and I also wrapped their pipes with heat tape and pipe insulation to prevent future problems.

One thing you can do to prevent frozen pipes in severe weather is to let the water run just a little because running water won't easily freeze. Do that with all the taps that are fed by pipes running underground or through outside walls or attics or crawlspaces where they might be exposed to cold temps, and they shouldn't freeze next time.

I can't blame you for bragging. But think of all the snow angels you could be making, while naked...

You're really missing out.
