You think because they are in this lifestyle that it automatically bequeaths good manners or some obligation?

OP, you have 21 responses to your question.  You have not thanked or acknowledged a single one of them.  Yet you complain that others don't respond to you.

You expect more courtesy from others than you are willing to give.

Yeah, I'll say you missed the class.

It is rude...but practical and human nature. For some it is a lot of work to respond to every message...for others, who get fewer messages, it is not work but they may not be in the mood at that time. I am often that way but eventually I always respond. But then I am polite and near perfect..lol

The more detailed the original message the more I feel obligated to respond in a timely manner. But sometimes I have to think of an appropriate response. And I have just forgotten I received a message from time to time.

You must understand people are selfish and lazy...if they do not respond they were not worth the effort in the first place.

Being rude/lazy has little to do with my reason for not responding.

But I'll make it easy:

no response = not interested

Yes it is a common practice.  The reason for it is obvious.  Many d-types can not handle rejection.  To send a "sorry, not interested" message becomes an invitation for them to whine, beg, berate.  Who needs that sort of crap?

You mean........oh Katy, how could you be so meeeeeeeaaaaaaaannnnnnn and disrespectful to suggest such a thing? Please please tell me you really do like me, that I am an ubercoolbadassbitchdom. You shameless hussy twat!"(lame berate I know but I don't want Madame Eleven misunderstanding and sending me a Happy New Years!! love note).... is crap?!?

Who knew?!?! I guess I really need to rethink my email skills........le'sigh

Sorry Katy but I think you need to make it a bit clearer as some still don't get it!

Oh I know...it would just wear your pretty little nails to the quick to type...NOT INTERESTED and send it along.

Myself I could give a shit less who sends or responds…I don’t send personal request messages.

It has nothing to do with taking the time to respond. Why should I. I did not ask them to message me so the messages I get are basically "spam".

Perhaps you could tell me how many spam email messages you get on your normal email account and what percentage of those spam messages you answer. Do you reply to each one with a "not interested"

Hi Susie

If they are spam I delete them...if they get by my spam filter...If they are legitimate polite requests I answer them…not hard to figure which is which.

Even if I’m not in the mood or they are asking something I’m not interested in…I reply. It may be short…but never …NOT INTERESTED….It may even be a stock copy and paste reply…but still always polite. Hell why not

Just as easy to be nice as not…right?

Couldn't agree more. Those male subs that insist on sending me pictures of their "privates" with begging requests for me to become their Mistress really are better off not getting a response. My thoughts on their appendages are far better left in my mind.

I did not mean to take up the banner for the OP that’s for sure...lol...I'm not bullet proof after all.

I do understand not replying to idiot one-liners or...well assholes... and I understand not replying at all…but that IS rude. But hell we’re all grown here we can take rude…just don’t deny what it is.

It's not rude.  Here are some examples of "rude" (responses to "I'm not interested").

"You're a bitch"
"You're not a real sub"
"You'll never find a dom"
"Please talk to me"
"Please meet me"  "I know you'll like me"
"You don't know how to be submissive"
"Slaves don't refuse"

Again, why would anyone with sense want to subject themselves to that sort of stuff?  It's easier and makes more sense to ignore the inquiries you aren't interested in.  Solves the problem of having to deal with cry baby dominants.

Will then we agree... I would not respond to such crap myself...will that’s not true...I would tell them where to go then block them....But what of the reasoned message like the OP is talking about...don't they deserve a response...if even a short one. And lacking a response is it not reasonable of them to think you rude?
