England and Wales have one set of laws, Scotland another and Northern Ireland yet a third. They agree on most things but there are enough significant differences that it's best to be precise. It used to be the case that a 16yo could marry in Scotland without parental consent, which meant that a lot of English teenagers got married in Gretna, a small town just over the border; I don't think that's the case any more. Yes, my footnote is longer than the post itself. Sue me.
