I haven`t followed this thread much but wanted to ask, why is it necessary to sneak in veggies ?

I am not so much a fan of veggie sneaking... it makes it taste funny. Meat goes with meat, and veggie go with veggies... none of this sneaky business.

You could do what I do YHMA. I go to Whole Foods (maybe you have a trader joes?)  and I pick out awkward veggies I either haven't had, or just haven't had in a while. Take them home and google recipes for them until you find something that sounds fun and easy.... I've got some acorn squash today, and I think I might do this recipe that fills them with cranberries and orange zest and apples... nom!

Ok, Pretty much all or most  all your comments towards me are snarky or look pretty much like veiled pot shots. If you have nothing of value to add just stop and go away please. Leave me and my threads alone. This is the third post in which your only comment was something snarky or what amounts to  a pot shot. It's getting old.

If you don't like me be a mature adult and ignore me. Stop coming into threads after me only to post potshots or snarky replies.

Yes! It works great... I did get leeks once and couldn't figure out what the hell to do with them... apparently they go in soup with a whole bunch of other stuff.  But usually I end up with a awesome meal.

While you're there, pick up those little boxes of dried berries and stuff, they are good *munchie* food.

Actually, if I were being evil, it wouldn't be veiled, I'd write to you personally on the other side.  I don't know what you are talking about.  Good luck with your vegetables.

Mmm I been wanting to eat more berries. I got a thing of blueberries at the store like 4 months ago but unfortunately they were not the tastiest. they were not juicy n nummy. I can't wait till summer comes back because I will be eating the daylights out of Water melon. Nuts, like walnuts, are also a good source of protein I hear, and I love crunching some just by a fingerful.

These may or may not be useful, but in the hope that they are, I had some thoughts about veggies by themselves. (If veggies can be made more palatable in themselves, then perhaps sneaking them in wouldn't be needed anymore?)

First, the problems as I see them that might lead to people not liking to eat their veggies. 1) Most Americans seem to prepare veggies in bland and boring ways, boiled or steamed without adornment. 2) Most store-bought veggies, even the "fresh" ones from the produce aisles, are mass-produced: bred for size and looks, but NOT for flavor.

So, some possible solutions: 1) Try truly fresh, home-grown or at least farmer's market veggies; they tend to be much better-tasting. 2) Explore "ethnic" cuisines that are strong on veggies, for example Indian cuisine, which comes from a predominantly vegetarian civilization; from such cuisines you can find huge varieties of ways to prepare vegetable dishes, and hopefully find some that you enjoy. 3) Closer to home, some relatives of mine use the "South Beach Diet", and one of their favorite things about it is that it teaches ways to use herbs, spices and seasonings to make wide varieties of dishes, including vegetables and meats, very tasty without being unhealthy. So, it seems to me that many people would find the South Beach cookbooks quite useful, even if they have no interest in the diet itself. Having eaten with those relatives, even though I'm not on that diet, I can say that the recipes I've had are very much enjoyable.

Best wishes,
~Demspotis

All joking aside, you must eat veggies, fresh ones every day if you`re going to be healthy.

There`s just no way around it.Juicing is a great way to get concentrated doses of veggie/fruit goodness.

And zucchini bread doesn`t count as a veggie

It doesn't? Ok well then it's a tasty treat:)

All veggies are not created equally, I hear that for instance in cucumbers, the nutrients are mostly in the skin.

So which ones pack the most nutrients, that are not in parts I wouldn't want to eat, like stems and such stuff?

Juice the whole cuce.

Fresh, live, whole, raw or as close to that as possible.

Steaming is the healthiest way to cook veggies.

And french fries also don`t count as a veggie.

Scalding vegetables is also a good way to serve them. Veggies should be crisp when eaten. To have them mooshie , you might as well drink the water that they were boiled in.
Something Sir here did once was cutting tofu into cubes and frying them lightly in butter or olive oil and then serving them up with a nice beef flavored gravy (any meat gravy would be good). Delicious and I don't eat tofu all that often.
Tofu is great in any stir-fry dish but seafood. Just seems wrong to do so. But, that is just me.

The first question i'd have to ask is what vegetables do you like, then go from there.  One way i like to lose weight (alright i don't like it but i do it..lol) is to cut out all oil, salt, sugar, and gluten.  The meals vary but there is a constant..6 small meals a day.

Breakfast and morning snack = 2-4 ounces of white meat chicken with 1 cup of fruit.
Lunch and dinner = 2-4 ounces of beef, pork, or white meat chicken, 1/2 cup of potato or rice, and 1-2 cups of vegetables.
Afternoon snack = 2-4 ounces of white meat chicken and 1 cup of vegetables
Evening snack = 1 cup of fruit

Fresh fruit and vegetables are key as there isn't any added sugar or salt.  And lots of water throughout the day which can have lemon and sugar substitute added.  Also decaf tea and/or coffee as well.  Spices..well Mrs Dash is my friend.

Its a great way to detox the body

Today there was a whole bag of salad that was browning and would of gone to waste, I put it in the blender and whizzed it up to go in my spaghetti sauce. I also put a few heads of broccoli in and maybe will add baby carrots.

It changed the taste a bit cause I used a small amount of water in the blender to help it whiz up, I think next time I'll just use spaghetti sauce itself, and not water.

Acorn squash is good baked with some orange marmalade on it. you put it on after they cook in the oven for 50 min. Add marmalade and cook for 10 min more. YUMMY!

I think you could take sweet potatoes and make a french fry out of that i seem to remember seeing that on a cooking show.

I adore potatoes as you can do so much with them but they don't count as a veggie, they are a starch and really not good for you :(
