I would advise that you hide your current profile which would allow you to keep your history.
Then I would start a new profile that wouldnt not be obvious to your vanilla friend

Not only could you retain you history , but the new profile name would be harder to track on google unless you personally tell someone what the sn name is, after say six months, I believe messages will be deleted regardless.

I'm just curious about why someone was so curious as to wade through 6 pages to find the OPs profile here..  after 6 pages most people would have given up unless they had a reason to keep searching. IMO, of course

SSP or standard stalking procedure. I employ the same approach with the "GreedyTop" search, alas only two pages to sort through.

I agree that I bear partial responsibility, but since I don't have this problem on any other site, I'm not taking full responsibility.

That's rubbish. You're acting like the world revolves around your desire to use one nickname for everything and the operators of the site are being negligent for not catering to you. If you were accepting any responsibility at all, you would have just made a new nickname without bothering to even start this thread.

Here's an idea -- instead of whining about the site design, why don't you volunteer to fix it, and if you don't have the skills then offer to donate some money so they can hire someone to fix it? You seem to know so much about how easy it is to run websites so you also should know that the resources to do so don't grow on trees. That would REALLY be taking responsibility for solving the "problem"; complaining about it is just lame.

No. If you are concerned about coworkers searching from your user name, then it's a matter of being selective on what you write.

Cat, I just have to use Google Earth and it'll show exactly where my house is, I was able to zoom in enough to see the the small shed that's in the backyard!

... but (fortunately or annoyingly depending on your perspective) not enough to see what bear does inside the shed

They wouldn't have to police me if they built the site responsibly. Like I said, no other site I've been on has showed up in the google search engine. It's not a difficult task to for a web developer to keep out of search engines.

Interestingly enough, I have yet to meet a web developer who wants to stay out of search engines.

Happy Pervert: Instead of time and money, here's the code to add to the header of the html page: (put this inside the greater than and less than symbols, as you do with all html commands) <meta name="robots" content="noindex, nofollow"/>
or
In addition placing a robots.txt file in the root of the site index will determine what directories can and can't be crawled by the search engine.
That file can be as short as two lines.

This is not a difficult change to make, it's not rocket science. It's not expensive. This is why I don't have this problem on other sites.

Why attack me instead of supporting a simple change that protects the privacy of all users here and makes your lives simpler so you don't have to be so incredibly cautious with anonymity?  I didn't care if fellow perverts found me, so I posted my face pic. But I didn't want my co-workers and business clients finding me, and they did.

It's two lines of code. It's responsible, it's easy.

Halfshyhalfwild: I'm not saying that all of collar me shouldn't show up in search engines. I just believe only the main page should show up in search engines. Not every profile and forum post.

This may come across as a little harsh but hey, I am a mother and this kind of behaviour you are showing is bringing it out in me.  Honestly are you just plain stupid or something?
You have just written a number of posts, complaing that your name is available on search features on a bdsm site which you prefere didn't because of outting issues.  OK, fair enough but now you come back onto the same thread, under your new name, outting yourself again?  Honestly, learn to use the net responsibly instead of avoiding responsibility for yourself and trying to shift it onto others.

And why are you bitching about it here, instead of writing to Support on the other side???

Darcy you are correct. One of the problems I was trying to avoid by having to migrate profiles instead of renaming mine, was the one above. I logged out of my new profile and into the new one, and then responded to the thread here.  Unfortunately I had other tabs open which had been opened with the new profile. This must've created a cookie error so my login to the message board came from the new ID.
I have since deleted that profile, just as I have hidden the old one.
I'm not stupid. I make mistakes. All humans do.  That's just rude. I haven't been rude. I've requested a simple two line code change to the site which really should have been present from the beginning. I don't know why everyone here is so offended by the idea of responsible site design for a "personals" site.  I don't understand what brings on this level of defensiveness unless this sites code and server support is "crowdsourced".

I don't think I was bitching. I was asking a simple questions about the site. I didn't see the method to contact support because the left side support page doesn't provide contact info.  I have since found it at the bottom. I'll contact them directly.
I really don't think I was rude on this thread.  I didn't hijack a bunch of threads. I didn't create a lot of threads. I made one post and replied to it's replies. I don't understand the hostilty towards it.

I agree that I bear partial responsibility, but since I don't have this problem on any other site, I'm not taking full responsibility.

I've hidden my profile and deleted my photos. I'll probably delete my profile next. I just think it's a waste because all of it is perfectly avoidable with simple design modifications.  Isn't it just two lines of code to keep search engines from crawling and indexing your content?  I believe that's why I never had this problem elsewhere.

You get what you pay for.

Oh and common sense helps too. That's why I have a kinky screenname and a vanilla one. I have never assumed that the internet is a safe place to post things. I have never assumed that anything I have posted would be hidden from the general public. If I found a website, I would have to assume that others could find it also.

Since you are so upset with the way Collarme is set-up, why don't you ask for your membership fee refunded and use that money to start your own website written just the way you want it?

Isn't that what the FETlife people did?

Did CM charge them a membership fee? Did you pay one?

Thats funny I have never had a profile that you didnt have access through searches. Regardless of what I paid or the content. All you have to do is ggogle the name. However, I dont have the same profile name for vanilla dealings. So unless you go around advertising your kinky handle how are people going to be searching for you?

(I have searched all my names)

I know that what I said came across as harsh and DasKreestof, it will help youto remember that you can't hear me saying what I said and see my face as I said it.  All you get are words.  The thing that you seem to assume is that people who run sites are responsible for their patrons.  But they aren't.  No one is responsible but you for you.  Even if you were paying for the site.  Have your even read the terms of service on sign up?  If you didn't then that is your issue.  CM and CC have to look after the site and abide by laws and other bits and pieces pertaining to the site.

Darcy and I have various profiles and a website etc.  If you googled us, we come up all over from myspace to arrowinthehead to gybo to facebook.  None of these avoid search engines and I don't believe any site we belong to do - because it's advertising.  It gets people on a link to a part of the site.  If you don't want to be identified then use different names and be careful on how you identify yourself - like you did above.  That was a silly mistake and one that is easy to make but not sensible if you are concerned on your identity.

No ones attacking you, but making a suggestion is one thing.  Turning it into a complaint is another and passing blame is not going to make things easier for you because the site is free and the error of judgement was yours to begin with.  If you do not like something, then take your custom elsewhere.  Don't expect people to look after you if you are incapable of looking after yourself.  Please understand that some people are only trying to assist you by making suggestions and if you keep knocking them back because you feel slighted, again, that isn't necessarily the case.

Has it occurred to you, Daskreestof, that perhaps the owners and operators of this site choose to have it open?  That perhaps having our forum conversations available is a way to build awareness that we are not some distant freaks, to be hated and feared?  To educate those who are interested, but would never be willing to risk actually creating an account here?
