And here we have a perfect exmple of why people wear me down. Yoiu thank somebody for helping you out and what do you get in return? Where the hell did I say, or even imply, that British people "all the same" or are a "bland people."? Those would be stereotypes now, wouldn't they? My whole point was that the stereotype of British humor hadn't even entered my mind - hence my confusion.

Was it the line about the United States having all forms of humor? If so, I don't see how that correlates to: the British are bland. I simply meant that, based upon my own experience, the concept of a culture being monolithic in its humor didn't even occure to me because such has never been my experience.

Oh well.

You'll be sorry to hear that my heritage goes back to when the Anglos met the Saxons.

Tell me about it. The old saying is true. I love humanity – its people I can’t stand. Sometimes I think we need a plague – ala Stephen King’s, The Stand, to thin out the ranks.

Okay, I don’t really mean that – but it would solve a lot of problems and would make it easier to find a little peace and quiet.

For the record (just to get in line with the topic of this thread) I’m all for gun rights (I usually come down on the side of less government power) but if Britain wants to ban guns that’s fine by me. It’s their country after all. And it’s not like I was planning to bring my twelve gauge along should I ever visit.

No. Rancher A dams/diverts a watercourse that runs through his property into rancher B's property. Rancher B now has no fresh water. RTancher A flat refuses to access to the water but offers to buy Rancher B's property for next to nothing. Rancher B decides Rancher A would look better dead.

Assume that if some guy could acquire all the land around your property and deprive you of water and/or food in order to acquire your property for a pittance that someone would do it.

So since you wouldn't be able to leave your property and no one willing to trade with you could reach your property you would not be able to trade for what you need. So saying you don't think public property is needed indicates you have a basic misunderstanding of human nature or haven't thought the issue out completely.

Well you are both further than me here DomKen. I'm still trying to figure out how one would build roads, install booths and tolls and find the time to man them while gathering food, since one can't buy groceries anymore. And we're not even talking about other assorted tasks.

This would also mean having to have your own energy supply, having to guard your own energy supply, while manning the toll booths, and gathering food. And we haven't even factored in laundry at this point.

You know, I'm just going to stick with what we have. This works for me.

Last time I checked (which was about two minutes ago on Google) the Anglos and the Saxons invaded Britain around AD 450. I think that gives them a legitamet claim on the island. The Celts can go fuck themselves.

Maybe this is a case of a term having different meanings on opposite sides of the pond. Around here the term Anglo-Saxon is sometimes used as a symonym for English or English decended. For example, WASP, meaning White Anglo Saxon Protestent (which in turn is usually a euphemism for rich white people living in the Northeast).

Just had a translation courtesy of GT , the above works the same here , the rest would take some dealing with , these issues are commonly best debated in large crowds at sporting venues ....... It is useful to know that most non English inhabitants of these island will support ANYONE against England and the English are notable for their appreciation of this by its complete abscence.So roll on the Six Nations Rugby (starts very soon) (in which you will a lot of French Celts supporting their national side and being renowned for not wishing to be associated with anything English).
