YourhandMyAss -> How do you like to detox after an overdose of sugar? (1/23/2009 7:29:28 AM)

Daddy and I had KFC last night I had 20 of the honey BBQ wings, now I am thirsty as hell, and I've gone through 3 water bottles since eating lol. On the rare occasion I eat really sweet stuff I find being hella thirsty is par the course afterwards. This only occures after consuming a bunch of sugar, so it's not like a complication of diabeties.

So, Other than tons of water, like the tittle says, how do you like to detox after over dosing on some food or drink?

>.O I thought you were on a diet? I'm  bad about breaking diets with cheesy eggs, but 20 wings is bit much? That being said, I used to get stressed out to hell sometimes, and would eat until I got physically sick... yeah lots of water after that too.

After an OD of sugar I find running around in circles like an idiot for twenty minutes usually does the trick.

Oh Lord, I love chessy eggs.  So what do you use, Velveeta?

Not a diet particularly no, since I don't believe in the traditional word diet. Which to me means certain foods are offlimits and there's no eating them, period, even in small moderations, because they're not on the approved diet list.

We are trying to be careful of what we eat,, And if that's what you mean by diet then yes lol.

However once in a while I do like to pig out, and after weeks and weeks and weeks of self control in the department of not over eating and not eating things that are junky, I just plain wanted to eat something junky hehehe.

However, anytime I decide to go hog wild with sugary things I pay dearly for it, so after last night I have made the decision to stop. I mean because it's like WHY suffer, when it's something I did to myself and can control.

And besides, it's not the way to get healthy, and it only sabotages health efforts. However it's sooooooooooooooooooo easy to be tempted off the wagon, by commercials and other influences, must stay strong, must, must must lol.

Eating some protein helps me if I've eaten something really sweet.  Meat, cheese, nuts, cottage cheese, etc.  It seems to counter-act it.

KFC Honey Barbecue Wings nutritional breakdown
Serving Size 6
Calories 540  (Calories from fat 216)
Cholesterol 65 mg
Sodium 1850 mg
Sugars 14 gm
Protein 30 gms

So that means if you ate 20 of them you consumed :

1800 Calories (720 of them from fat)
80 gms fat
217 mg cholesterol
6167 mg of sodium !!!!!!!!!!!!
47 gms of sugar
100 gms protein (many experts believe that your body can only utilize 30 to 40 grams at one time...so the rest goes in the toilet and doesn't do you any good)

And those figures only stand if you didn’t eat or drink anything else…no fries…no soft drinks…no dessert. That’s not caving in to a craving, that’s absolute gluttony.
It is not the sugar causing you to be thirsty, it’s the sodium. If you are trying to find your way into an early grave you’re on the right track.

Same here. I've also heard that 20 grams of protein--which is a lot--will completely demolish carb cravings. I guess that makes sense, given that a protein shortage results in cravings for carbohydrates... not that a carb binge necessarily results in a protein shortage; just noting the correlation.

Yeah seriously. Don't get me wrong, I like those wings too. But I usually only do them about once a year...and then I split the 6 piece order with Sir. 3 of them is plenty enough to satisfy a craving...and even then I feel guilty, seriously watch what I consume for the next week and drink copious amounts of water for a few days.

The key to splurges is moderation.  A little taste here or there of something unhealthy isn't really so bad. Key words "a little taste" and "here or there". 20 of those wings is NOT what I would consider moderation.

HotFaerieMamma, sugar used to never bother me either, but in the last year it has started to.

mist, I'd just rather stay away all together, I am AOK and enjoy not eating them, PROVIDED I stay on the staying off it wagon, so to speak.

IF I get off the wagon and start eating it,  even just a little bit, it starts the cravings for junk rolling back in.

So I am going back to the policy we started about fast foods only once or twice  a month, and eating out no more than once or twice a month.

Sweets there may be a reason for that, im guessing your body is warning you to stop. Over indulgance in sugar can and does lead to diabeties

I don't get hella hyper after sugar consumption, I just feel sickly lol.

People in real life always contribute my hyper activity and bubbly ness, and thousandth mile an hour personality, to sugar, and junk, but I am that way naturally lol.

I do have to say though I laughed really loud, when I read this thread, and my partner was like what, what's so funny.

I adore sweets, love love lovvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvveeeeeeeeeeeee, chocolate and pastries!!!

I know my weaknesses and how to control them......IF I really want to control them.

I keep ALL junkfood I have a weakness for out of the house, period. I do keep the best quality, most intense, dark chocolate in the house. One or two bites of that satisfies my sugar/chocolate craving better, and much more healthily than a pound bag of milk chocolate M&M's. Less calories and fat too!

Sugar OD's are something I am familiar with. If I do it, I will even notice it in my vision. There is no quick fix, or immediate body cure for that abuse. Just train yourself to not do it. I never used to realize how bad it was for me, I used to be a skinny little thing, it didn't cause me to gain weight, I loved it, why not right? Because it made me feel like shit, and it was bad for me. Even so, I didn't stop until not that long ago. Long after it had become a weight issue, and a realization that I might not always be in great health like I am now. Better to nip it before than try and fix health issues later.

I do NOT want diabetes, not ever. It is one of my main motivators to staying on the healthy track.
