Problem is when you dont allow yourself something you tend to crave it and then when you do have it you over indulge in it. Best not to deny yourself stuff but not go overboard.

Im am going to be nice and not make comments of my thoughts. I couldnt but I wont waste the energy.

I just wanna say.....help I am overdosing on blood oranges, I cant stop eating them. Someone restrain me already, since its actually a natural sugar rush.

purepleasure -> RE: How do you like to detox after an overdose of sugar? (1/23/2009 11:21:43 AM)

yhma, it takes more than just restraint to change food behaviors.  Limiting yourself to binge eating only once or twice a month is not restraint, it is still binge eating.

you have already been diagnosed as being pre-diabetic.  It is your choice, and yours alone, as how you want to handle your health issues.  However, I can tell you first hand that some of the choices you are making WILL  result in full blown diabetes, should you decide to not make changes to your relationship with food and exercise.

Big difference between complex and simple sugars, Sage.... our bodies can utilize and break down the one but the other one causes problems when we OD on it. [:)]

Now put the orange down. Gently. Back away from the orange....... *winks*

Rain, honestly I tend to see snarkyness, because the psots I am seeing it from tend to have a history and a habbit of blasting me with snark, so when they do say something to me I assume it's to be snarky.

I email you on the other side though.

Why don't you actually grow some balls and dare to bash me openly and not thinly veiled,  since you admit  in private you take pot shots at me on purpose and target me, since  you think I am an idiot,  you just veil it so the mods won't mod spank you.

Better yet, Get a better hobby, than harrasment of people you don't like.

YHMA, you've said it yourself on one of your own threads that "but I could be wrong, I have seen snarky ness before where there was none lol.".  This is such a case in point, Potty was just agreeing with the nutritional information posted by a previous poster. The point being made, that due to the unhealthy amount of food and what was it, i.e. the HIGH amount of sodium, that was consumed, it was obvious why you were so thirsty.

Are you perhaps cycling up right now and the perceptions might be a little off?

YourhandMyAss -> RE: How do you like to detox after an overdose of sugar? (1/23/2009 11:26:34 AM)

purple, and that is why I am choosing to change my relationship with them, and yeah binging on KFC doesn't look like changing the relationship, and honestly it's not. But I've made other choices, regarding health and exercise, that ARE changing my relationship with foods.

To late I already ate it LOL and they are calling my name in the kitchen.

Be realisticly, I m not going to push it having just gone through stomach virus hell and lived through it. Today is the first day my tummy said feed me. I very carefully stuck to thin bland potato soup yesterday. I figure if the last 3 days didnt kill me 2 delightful red ass blood oranges wont kill me. And 3.99 a bag at that. They tasted like ambrosia I tell ya. My sister keeps telling Go down and buy all the bags they have.

YourhandMyAss -> RE: How do you like to detox after an overdose of sugar? (1/23/2009 11:37:00 AM)

colouredin, Please don't take this as justification or nothing, it's not,  it's not a justification it's an honestly how things work for me..

When I don't eat it I don't crave it.  I can go a year lets say, with out icecream, because I don't desire it, but then when someone brings me some and I eat it because they thought they were being kind and bought me some, THEN that's when I want it and will eat it and crave it.

It's the same way with chocolate, or brownies, or cakes, or cookies, or potato chips. I don't want it until I start eating it.

THAT'S when I start craving it and wanting it and maybe binging on it.

I am so out of shape right now that a flight of stairs WILL have my heart beating, at increased rates, Hell walking all over the hotel, even slowly or at a moderate pace will too.

Well I'll agree walking can be excerise, however it is walking at an increased speed, so your heart rate increases and you keep up the increased heart rate for at least ten minutes 3 times a day.

I have stairs in my home (15 steps) and I go up and down them about 25-30 times a day (i have a 1 yr old) but if I go up them in a slow pace I don't consider that a workout.

Hun, if that is true then you really better take a good, hard look at this. I have to tell you that when I was 26 I could have run up and down stairs from the time I got up til the time I went to bed and I wouldn't have even been breathing hard. I'm not trying to come down on you or preach to you but I will tell you that you just have no idea the effects that aging will have on you. These should be the healthiest years of your life. It is NOT going to get easier as you get older and you are seriously shortening your life span. It really is time to start thinking about your future and putting some discipline and self control into your life. I know that you are trying and I know that you are making progress in some areas....but if you can't make it up and down a flight of stairs without it having an effect on your heart rate, I don't think trying and small progresses are going to be enough. I think you have to give yourself some tough love and buckle down to it. Make a plan, set goals and do it faithfully every single day. I know it seems impossible and I am not going to tell you that it's going to be easy at all....but this much I can promise you....healthy habits become just that....habits. If you do the hard work now there will come a time when it won't be hard to do. It will just become habit.

YourhandMyAss -> RE: How do you like to detox after an overdose of sugar? (1/23/2009 12:15:56 PM)

Mist, I don't think you're pickin on me. I think you see something that is honestly alarming, and you want to reach out.

*due to the misunderstanding that sometimes when I am communicating I a m making excuses I am putting this disclaimer on my post This is not an excuse Nobody take it for an excuse.

I was over weight, even before my horse back riding accident, But I was capable of being pyscially active, I would go every week, and I'd  do all the things that are required to ride the horse, I even had very little problem hauling the saddle and the saddle pads, * which are kinda heavy, to me , specially if you're tired after a good ride, but then, I fell off  the horse I was riding twice  in 2000, and before that I would of been running circles around those damned stairs. But with that injury being out of commission for 3 years from it, and getting fatter while out of commission, I am these days having my ass kicked by the stairs instead of kicking their ass.

I seriously do miss the days when I was the fearless young healthy skinny girl who kicked ass, and could hustle just as well as any one* as opposed to the slow shuffling I do now* I am sad and I AM alarmed, at how bad it's gotten.

I think it's absolutely freaking pitiful, that something so basic, such as stairs does me in.
And that's not good. That's why I AM so proud when I manage to do the little things, like work all day at the house cleaning it for the lady I did it for. Because it is so hard and I AM so far out of shape.

And then people are like ooh woopty fucking woo, you cleaned house all day big deal NOT!

But I do ignore them, and I am still very proud of myself, and so is Daddy.

YHMA, on some level i can (sadly) relate to Your experience. i've said it a zillion times before but i always believed i was fat, ugly, repulsive looking, etc and then i had my thyroid removed. i  wasn't put on any replacement medications until i had gained 185 pounds.  Now, my body hates me.
Here is a link to a website that has a whole host of inspirational stories, etc. about people who have lost a tremendous amount of weight by walking at home. The greatest thing is that
you can do it regardless of your limitations...My mom even recently started doing some.
Good luck..

I'd get checked for diabetes.  *Just saying.

And no, I"m not being snarky or kidding.  I have my own issues around this, and have to be really careful.  Although I'm a big woman, I have been told by my doctor how healthy I am ... when I do an hour of cardio a day, an hour of lifting, and yoga every other day.  Now, I am first of all answering your question.  That's what I would do - exercise.  Secondly, I miss deeply miss the people from my gym who were so supportive.  In the middle of spinning class (the most torturously glorious good exercise in the world next to dance), the teacher would have us each turn to each other and say "don't give up."  and "you can do it."  I loved that class.  It kept some of my cravings in check.

Good luck and I wish you peace.

YHMA, you are working on changing your eating habits and that is totally awesome.

Just keep up the good work, keep educating yourself, and the best advice I can possibly give you is to walk. Walk walk walk walk walk. Every fucking day, no matter what, push yourself, tell yourself that your life depends on it.

I live where the weather is total shit half the year. I was using the weather (and anything else I could think of) as an excuse. Finally I realized that I was only hurting myself and researched and purchased an eliptical. God there are days when I SOOOOOO do NOT want to go down and do it but, I have to. You are blessed to live in an area with beautiful weather. Take advantage of it. Take the dog for a daily walk. Your dog will be happier and so will you. Just do it!

I don't want to be 75 and taking half a dozen pills twice a day. Or waddling into the grocery store and dropping my ass into one of those motorized carts to do my shopping.

Keep fighting for yourself and be proud of every damned step you take.

My knees swell up and cry at the thought of a spinning class. But yes, I do adore the eliptical..........as much as I can adore a piece of exercise [:'(]  equipment.

YourhandMyAss -> RE: How do you like to detox after an overdose of sugar? (1/23/2009 12:48:33 PM)

Kalista, thank you. I also watch you are what you eat, and the success stories, and how good they all look after loosing all the weight they did, has inspired me to want to be healthy again and maybe see if there's anything here I can join that is similar to  the nutritionists ways on that show.

As for walking, when I go to school on Tuesday's I don't ask Daddy to drop me off out front, and then go park, we park together, and then I walk in clear through the back of the building, which is farthest away from my class, due to the silly way parking is designed, then walk back out.

It's one of my favorite ways to walk, with out realising you're walking, to sound so silly.

And of course you need to do it more than once a week, I'm not saying you don't what I AM however saying is it's my favorite way to get some walking in.

Thats not silly at all. Parking far away is a great way to get in a few more steps. Mall, school, grocery store. Forget circling around looking for the closest open spot. Head clear out to the far ends of the lot and walk up to the store.

Every little thing helps.
