RCdc -> RE: Natural beauty and why we hide it (1/27/2009 11:28:50 AM)

Unless you know where your products come from(ie you squeezed it yourself), it's still a cosmetic enhancement, just a changable one.  Getting your nails done is a form of plastic surgery - even though it is minor.

And if your unsure about cher my friend says - it's because your not a gay male.[;)]
I am usually totally natural day to day and we both look sexy first thing in the morning...[:D].  But I am not anti enhancment - for shoots we use it and when we go out sometimes.  If it makes a person feel good I think it rocks for them and some people are attracted to people with cosmetic enhancements so it's all good.  I wouldn't be bothered by people who lie about it, that is there issue not mine.  I have definately seen Joan Rivers laugh at herself (een when she was kicked of LW)and cher was never shy about the facial work she had done.

I cannot imagine coming to work without the war paint and doing my hair! Only a select few victims get to see me au natural. Poor bastards.

VirginPotty -> RE: Natural beauty and why we hide it (1/27/2009 12:26:31 PM)

I'm going to have to agree w/LaT.
Though in my defense I only wear mascara & lipstick. With the lipstick it's not all day, when the AM dose wears off I usually just switch to chapstick to keep the kisser moist.
The only time I don't wear makeup is when I'm outdoors in the summertime...swimming, walking etc. as well as when I'm at the gym in the AM. That's what tickles me, my coach has seen me ALL NATURAL, sweaty, hair as f**ked up as it can get yet he'll flirt endlessly w/me. No accounting for taste..............[sm=dunno.gif]

Lucylastic -> RE: Natural beauty and why we hide it (1/27/2009 12:27:18 PM)

If I wear makeup, my skin feels like its suffocating, same goes with tanning products, moisturisers and the list goes on. My mum was an avon junkie when I was growing up and I was a punk, goth and new ager so I used to wear it a LOT but now i hate it with a passion, touch of lippy and some blush, mascara and thats it.
Since I had my bells palsy and the resultant facial paralysis, my natural beauty(heh) is somewhat hard to accentuate.

LaTigresse -> RE: Natural beauty and why we hide it (1/27/2009 12:46:18 PM)

I wear a foundation that just disappears it seems after it's put on. Yet it evens things out without feeling like I have something on. I rarely wear lipstick, instead a protectant during the winter. My lips have alot of natural colour and I hate the gloppy feeling. I almost always wear some bit of slight eye makeup and mascara. Thats about it.

Of course the necessary bling.....

I cannot imagine getting plastic surgery to my face. The very idea gives me the heebie jeebies.

~fast reply~

the day TheEngineer and i got married, it was Too Damned Cold to do my normal routine...IE, shower, comb my hair, and go.  22 degrees?  nothankyouverymuch.  as i was struggling with the blowdryer, i  got the giggles...it had been probably 7 years or more since i blew my hair dry, other than one haircut.

my hair is fine and flyaway and VERY straight.  so no use bothering, it wont even hold a perm.  braid waves fall out within 10 minutes when my hair is longer, even if i braided it wet.  i also have a lot of "grew them myself!" highlights in my hair.  or as the imp said, "mom! you're going.....blonde..!"  uh huh.

i was blessed with good skin.  i wash my face, and when i remember put on moisturizer.  makeup is for special occasions, and even then its mascara, eyeliner, and lipstick.  my mama still fusses at me because i wont "protect" my face by putting on makeup.

some people look fine without a little enhancement.  i wouldnt say i was gorgeous by a long shot, but i look fine without the makeup.  i wonder  how much of it is "i need the makeup" and how much of it is cultural expectation?

kitten, who has a wedding day pic up on the profile now....oh and one of the new family member, the jasmine-kitty

subtee -> RE: Natural beauty and why we hide it (1/27/2009 2:30:20 PM)

Okay, here's all I do because I'm pretty natural.

Step one, every morning I exfoliate with an abrasive aluminum oxide resine fiber sander for grinding, sanding and polishing. I prefer Dynabrasion brand and use the standard 4" disc.

Next I caulk under the eyes, on the smile lines and to fill in the frown. I can't actually manage to express emotions after having done this, but that's okay because that's what got me this craggy face in the first place. You'd be surprised how often a.. surprised expression works in everyday situations.

Next spackle the whole area, from forehead to the top of the bra, with DAP's "Crackshot Premium Spackle Putty in Dew-kissed Fawn. I use approximately a quart a week. I can't believe how many women leave the wattle un-spackled. If you're not proficient with a putty knife, turtleneck, turtleneck, turtleneck!

The collagened lip to approximate the bee stung look is so Housewives of the OC. Girly! I use actual bees, which I admit can leave a somewhat uneven swell, however it has the added benefit of leaving your lips blood red. How kissable is that? (I have no idea.)

The abrasive aluminum oxide resine fiber sander has the unfortunate side effect of leaving me eyebrow-deficient, but this is resolved with Crayola Mess Free Color Wonder Marker in Cheadle Black. I use care to not over arch, as I'm already looking pretty startled from the caulk.

Finally, I keep the masterpiece all in place with Loc-tite Duro Bond Adhesive Spray.

Ta daaaaaa [:D]

I am light on the makeup because my mamma warned me it is not only the chemicals in them it is the sheer weight of cosmetics that would cause eventual excess wear and tear on your skin, thus wrinkles.

What makeup I do wear isn't even noticeable, that is the whole point of it.

sirsholly -> RE: Natural beauty and why we hide it (1/27/2009 2:47:58 PM)

i get out of bed, shower and dress. Hopefully in that exact order.

DesFIP -> RE: Natural beauty and why we hide it (1/27/2009 2:49:36 PM)

Good quality cosmetic surgery shouldn't change the way you look. It should simply and subtly make you look like you did ten years ago, so people you know seeing you after you had it done don't think "OMG look at all the work she had done". Instead they should simply think "Wow, she looks so rested and relaxed" without realizing what causes it.

As far as why people are having it done? Attempts to keep a middle aged spouse from straying. Better odds of getting a job.

Holly, if you get out of bed, dress, then shower.........you are multi-tasking. Showering and doing laundry.

Vendaval -> RE: Natural beauty and why we hide it (1/27/2009 2:52:07 PM)

(giggle fit)  subtee, you bad, bad girl you!

I go through phases of wearing a little, wearing lot or going bare skinned entirely depending on my mood.  In the summer less is better because of sweating.  Foundation is something I use mostly at night and prefer during the day to use instead a bit of powder limiting the shine factor.  Unless I am headed to a costume party or club my jewelry is pretty minimal. I rarely use a blow dryer, usually only when it is raining and do not own a curling iron or straightener.  Depending on my mood and the level of humidity in the air I will skip anything beyond the shampoo and conditioning routine or use some soothing milk or mousse or curl enhancers.

Fingernail polish is hit or miss with me, mostly just keep the nails short and well trimmed.  Perfume varies as I prefer oils like sandalwood and frankincense but those are too heavy for work days.  One of the light Calgon body mists are more appropriate for the office.  Pantyhose are a boor but tights are great for keeping your legs warm in winter.  A garter belt and stockings are much more fun for nights out on the town.

Tee, I love you.

And you know I love you back...what a refreshing change from the jealousy I usually get from females! You should see the looks on their faces when they see me...RAWR!

LaTigresse -> RE: Natural beauty and why we hide it (1/27/2009 2:57:59 PM)

Jealousy is the most worthless emotion on the planet. I just want to bask in the glory that is your beauty. All that spackle gets me excited yanno.

Be my guest Sunshine. Just your name, and sunny flowers, are a welcome sight this cold icky winter day.

parakeet89 -> RE: Natural beauty and why we hide it (1/27/2009 3:27:34 PM)

Yeah, we feel the need to do it to live up to society's standards.

I wish I could say I don't cave into the pressure, but I most certainly do, and I feel hideous if my face is completely naked. I'm not a natural beauty by any means. I want to get a nose job really badly, but I'd draw the line there (for myself) when it comes to cosmetic surgery.
