ORIGINAL: kdsub There is a basic problem with the Muslim culture today… they have trouble separating religion from government. They do not desire to live with another culture… they feel it is their religious duty to convert it or replace it. Butch Im pretty sure that many Muslims would find that offensive The only part of his statement one might find offensive is whether or not they desire to live with another culture. In countries where Muslims have a majority of the population about half the states involved either consider themselves Islamic states or have Islam as an official state religion. In a decent portion of the rest are separatist movements. A 50/50 mix isn't conjecture when it comes to saying Muslims have difficulty separating state from government. In one of those countries where it's listed as a state religion, myself and 2 others spent about 30 minutes plastered to the side of one of those dusty mud brick buildings with semi-automatic weapons held to our heads for no reason other than the fact that we were American. This was before the disaster we call Bush and before his father. After telling us all the reasons we didn't deserve to live, they, for some reason, decided not to shoot us there in the middle of town. They did however, relieve us of all the money we were carrying. You might conjure images of Al Queda type people, but Al Queda, if I'm thinking right didn't come along until the 90's. This was before that and this group was comprised of a taxi driver, 2 policemen, and a few others who happened to be standing by. Aside from religion, we were "offended" in many ways, everything from culture to our women to our mothers and fathers. Pick something. I doubt they left much out. Of course from a police perspective, it's easier to explain things to the American diplomat if we were resisting or aggressive. I'm pretty sure I found the whole thing pretty fucking offensive. This debate is like abortion. Everyone chooses an example that no one wants to attack, then defends every damned piece of ground in between from that position. The fact is some are extremists, some aren't. Some hate western culture. Some do not. Some live in different cultures without issue, some do not. I don't hate the religion. I don't hate the people who practice it. A week after being held at gunpoint, I was safe gaurding other Muslims. Good people are good people. The freaks, the wanna-destroy-infidels, the ones who preach hatred, live hatred, just can't damned well stand the fact that when I look at the Koran I see a book and nothing else and need to riot over it, far as I'm concerned, Pershing had the best way of dealing with them. And if that offends someone... too damned bad. Let them be offended.
