ORIGINAL: VirginPotty DC, MD & VA are notorious for panicking at the 1st HINT of snow! Even the President was shocked that his girl's school was closed last week & made a comment that "DC should have Chicago mentality". Everyone RUSHES to the stores, stocks up on toilet paper, milk & bread like they're going to be housebound for weeks w/o a break. That mad rush to the store always amuses me. "When was the last time Iowa had so much snow that you couldn't get to a store for a week?" I ask. Or, "Do people really keep that little food and TP in their house that, if they cannot go to the store for a day or two, they would be in serious trouble?" Two storms ago I made the mistake of thinking I wanted to stop in and pick up another box of SoySilk and an onion I needed to make soup, on my way home. You would have thought we were expecting a nuclear attack and going to have to go underground for years, given the madhouse that grocery store was. Right now, because the bridge is out, our road is a virtual dead end. The state has decided it doesn't need to maintain it while the bridge is out. Only twice have I had to use the 4 wheel drive to get to work and we've had a fair bit of snow this year. I haven't missed any work due to weather this year(dammit), not even with a couple ice storms. Just been late a few times so far. Some people are just bigger wussies when it comes to rough weather.
