In regard to what we choose to call ourselves on this site (or any site), some names seem obvious i.e. "Mistress This" "Master that" "Slaveso-and-so". 

For the not so obvious names,  I'm wondering what inspires them? If you are Dominant, how did you pick your name?  If you are submissive (providing you are unowned so a Dominant didn't name you) how did you choose your name?

Mine's a song by David Bowie. I am a Bowie fan. I like the song and I thought it would sound kewl as a screenname.

Nothing deep or meaningful behind it, sorry.

I picked my SN based off an old nickname. Val finds my birth name quite lovely, as do I and given it's history would never abandon it, and has no need to rename me beyond affectionate nicknames. He chose his name here because of history with the name as well that has nothing to do with being a dominant.

This is the name under which I'm published.  I've been using it for about 20 years.  At times, it feels more "real" than my legal name.  I've considered going through the paperwork to make this my legal name, but I know my family will never switch so I haven't bothered.

I picked this name because, I was young at the time (18-19ish) when I got started here, and I tend to be kinda minx-ish (in the lustful, sensual sense of the word.)  Master hasnt chosen to rename me, as he likes my names as they are.

I pick Nikita because is sexy name. My sub called me Nikita from beginning because I tell him he must.
I have always loved name Nikita.

Added extra "a" on collarme because Nikita was not available.

mine was based on a private name given me by my mother when i was 6 months old...it is in her memory

I used it years ago on msn chat and if i recall it was intended to have multi meanings

Knite = good guy saving the odd damsel or two from dragons(for the record i for one dont think there is dragons so that meaning was a freakin waste of time)

Knite = night = my darkside

Knite =mispelled to remind me not to take it all too seriously

Plus hated all the masterlord of all he sees and teacher of the universe titles used back then

Nowadays its just a nic im used to using

He is Exquemelin based on a guy who wrote about pirates. He's a history nerd, so, go figure.

I am Katie978, because every girl my age in named Katelyn or Katherine, or Caitlin or something. I figured that would best protect my anonymity.

When we made the couple's profile, we became ExKat.

My name was set on me as part of the spiritual path that I walk. Our path considers initiations to be a 'birth of the self', and each 'newborn' is named according to what hir goals/directions for the current progression are. For myself, my current progression names me Calla Firestorm. Calla references the striving of understanding of both womanhood and death. The firestorm designates a path where what appears to be destructive is actually a force for positive change, but concomitantly, where all that was extraneous is burned away without mercy.

The BW stands for Bladewing, which is the name of the poly household to which I have committed myself.

This name was suggested by friends before I joined Cm. I am partial to both the ocean and the wind, and many who know me personally said it fits.  Sir calls me oceana. Another name that I almost used was dreamweaver. That is a name given to me by a group of friends in real time, when that song was popular. I tend to have those type of names bestowed on me.

Ok... My name is a combination of my eye color and what I do.. I dream... all the time... day dream mostly... so hence the name Greeneyedreamer...pretty self explanatory... not rocket science...

Egyptology is a passion of Mine.  In college, I did a project on female leadership in Egypt and came across Nefertari.  Loved all that was written about her.  I've had this nic for more than a decade.
