CatdeMedici -> Believability (2/8/2009 4:49:59 AM)

At least every week seems like, someone is ranting about being "took", about I "twusted" them--etc etc etc--so maybe this thread will help--or not.

When you read a profile, how much do you believe?  I know for Me if there is a long list of expert, I'm turned off--been there done that bought that t-shirt and sent it home on the train. If the profile is blank, nope---screams to Me troller. I have the boy now, not because of what was IN his profile, but what I learned was NOT--but it also wasn't filled with blankness or Mr Macho with the silver tongue and the ever protruding dick tatooed with a list of do-me's.

So how much do you believe? What is it that makes you go, hmmmm--possibility?

MissMorrigan -> RE: Believability (2/8/2009 4:58:06 AM)

Common sense in bucketfuls, I tend to believe until I am given a reason not to. We hand over a certain amount of trust every time we interact with another human being or take advantage of a service provided - I'm speaking generally.  I never exclude a person from conversing with me because they have a blank profile, if I did consider every person who had a blank profile a 'troll', I would not have met Reality who became my submissive wife. I tend to think the suspicion we view others with is a reflection of us, that doesn't mean I'm a sucker, I'm not, far from it, but if I am taken for a ride the person doesn't get a second opportunity.

I assume that all info given me is false until it can be shown otherwise.

A face to face meeting. Not a telephone call, not cam....face to face is the only way I will possibly think to myself...hmmm, maybe.

KataNykanen -> RE: Believability (2/8/2009 5:27:46 AM)

I, on the contrary, assume that all info given me is correct. But I'm also convinced that almost part of it will show otherwise.
What in earlier times made me rant and now makes me laugh.

Profiles are personal PR. Deal with it carefully, you might meet someone who takes your PR for true, and then you're most probably in trouble *grin*.

chezzy71 -> RE: Believability (2/8/2009 5:51:10 AM)

I have had more than just a passing interest in the lifestyle since 1972.However,the times dictated exactly how much one can be invloved.To this i offer that i do not by any stretch claim to know it all because of the 37 year timeline.In fact,i am proud to say i have much to learn and i also now have the most wonderful and beautiful teacher this boy could have.

DarkSteven -> RE: Believability (2/8/2009 6:08:31 AM)

For scammers, the biggest one is a beautiful young woman, contacting me out of the blue, stating vaguely that she liked my profile, living out of state especially out of country.

Having a YM ID within the profile.

Hideous spelling. British grammaticisms and spelling from a US-profile.  Native American for an ethnicity.

Regarding someone who is physically real but not what they claim to be - for women's profiles, that's not really so much an issue as much as the person who is not what she herself thinks.  By that, I mean a woman who has read The Story of O and got wet, so she figures she must be a 24/7 slave.  Those profiles I weed out due to excessive demands on her prospective Dom needed to fit her fantasy, and excessive specificity.

Also, if she spends most of her profile ranting about the lousy, lying Dom wannabees she's met, I assume that her focus is on how life should please her, not on pleasing her Dom.

agirl -> RE: Believability (2/8/2009 6:14:12 AM)

From someone that has a pretty basic profile.......Profiles usually indicate what people think of themselves. That's all they are to me.

agirl

oceanwynds -> RE: Believability (2/8/2009 6:23:58 AM)

The profile or lack of would not sway me either way. I do not care for whiners and finger pointing people, if that would be in their profile, journal or posted it is a potential nay. We all have bad days, so if it only happen on a rare case, I could over look it. However if they start their posting this way, it shows me a lot of their persona.

certain words would be a turn off to me in a profile or email, true, wannabee, fake shows to me the person is not capable of accepting themself and need to put others down.

JustDarkness -> RE: Believability (2/8/2009 6:25:48 AM)

First it is a feeling I have with people. If it feels good you start to talk more and learn more.Then you can go to cam/phone etc ..later to real life..Step by step works for me the best. The more time..the better you know some one.But still..soemtimes afther years things can go wrong. So I guess there is no right way to learn to know people.

bamagirl4u -> RE: Believability (2/8/2009 6:27:15 AM)

Sometimes I put too much in my profile and journal..sometimes not.  If someone really wants to know me, they will write and let me know.  I don't put everything about me in there, sometimes it leaves the door open for fakes that just need wanking material.  I admit, I am not the best judge of character but with time and talking I can usually weed out the undesirables.  The Dom I recently met only had a request for online as his work keeps him busy...he wrote though and we kept talking.  He lives a good distance from me, but we met once.  He was very nice, respectful and even if nothing else comes of it, he will always be a good friend.  Sometimes you can't judge by the profile, you have to judge by your feelings or how much more you want to know.  Just my thoughts..thanks..[:)]

SimplyMichael -> RE: Believability (2/8/2009 6:59:55 AM)

I tend to only contact people who post because it tends to be rather clear who has actually done shit and who is full of it.

Yep.

VeryNastyDom -> RE: Believability (2/8/2009 7:23:03 AM)

You read some of these profiles and they just scream "FANTASY" as in "I am looking for a Dom who will lock me in his dungeon and keep me there without any contact with the outside world for the rest of my life".  Yeah, right.  Any any profile that shows that they are from my state, but the miles calculator says 900 miles, then I know they are geographically challenged; ditto with those that say Tuscon, New York.

Others however, will state what they like, what they don't like, and what they are still curious about.  Depending on the mix, it can be obvious that these folks have some RL experiences and are looking for more.

Hey Steven, it looks like a lot of folks using the old Native American tag now and as One with  BOUT 50% OF Native American BLOOD RUNNNING THUR MY VEINS IT PISS ME OFF TO NO END,I like a profile thats short and to the point yet interesting enought that makes me want to know more about the person..bounty

missturbation -> RE: Believability (2/8/2009 7:38:04 AM)

For me personally i tend to believe what i want to. I always want to believe the best of people and if their is a risk that the alternative will hurt my feelings i'll stick with what i want to believe.
I'm not as bad as i used to be but like others have said i take at face value until proved otherwise.

marie2 -> RE: Believability (2/8/2009 7:44:10 AM)

I don't know from a profile what I can believe and what I can't.  Usually it's just basic info anyway, unless I see something that really sounds whacko.

For me, the deciphering happens in a conversation.  I can usually tell if someone is either full of it, or just not the right one for me, and can eliminate them inside of an hour of talking.   There have also been times when I misjudged. I've had relationships where I trusted the person based on what they presented,  and then ended up getting duped.  It happens to everyone, but I think when it happens to someone, they have a need to vent, and that's why we see it so much on the boards.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no.  I don't rule out people from the other side because they don't post.  In fact, in general, I've found more sanity and consistency in people over there than on this side.

You can be fooled by a poster's persona too.  It's easy to build up an image and a few loser followers backing you up on a message board.  It's really not an indication of authenticity in my book.   But I agree it does give you more material to examine.

Aileen -
A perfect and pragmatically correct assumption philosophy! "Yeah...right!"; is a favorite saying of mine and even if I don't vocalize it, I think it.

More proof that Jersey people are very smart and accurate in their opinion of the world around them!

beth, on the other hand, is the 'yin' to my 'yang'; and together we have a bit of balance. However, in keeping score, she'll be the first to admit that, based upon results, my cynicism is 'winning' against her faith in people's honesty 100-1. she's become more of a realist; however, I'll admit to her influence at least allowing the possibility of believing. For instance, I'm almost totally convinced that her on-line profile was accurate and she's really into this 'Master/slave' thing...
