"Construction contracts subject to union-only PLAs are designed to be awarded exclusively to unionized contractors and their all-union workforces," said Pickerel. "Absent the economic benefits of competitive bidding, union-only PLAs are known to increase construction costs between 10 percent and 20 percent and discriminate against minorities, women and qualified construction workers who have traditionally been excluded from union membership.

"Union-only PLAs drive up costs for American taxpayers while unfairly discriminating against 84 percent of U.S. construction workers who choose not to join a labor union," added Pickerel. "All taxpayers should have the opportunity to compete fairly on any project funded by the federal government."

and team barry is repaying the unions for the vote.
QUID PRO QUO, more of the SOS. again so much for hopie changie!

You dont see what the problem is?
I thought obama was america's president, or is he just the union's president?

So when Bush signed the original order that Obama is only reversing, was Bush America's President or the president of the business groups that benefited by being able to hire lower paid workers?

its the tax  payers money, so should the GOV give any contracts to unions ?
if its a known that they drive the cost of goods and services up, and a private entity does not, then does it not make sense for the GOV to safe tax payers money and go with a non union organization?

slvemike4u -> RE: So much for getting the people back to work. No hopie changie SOS. (2/9/2009 5:48:29 PM)

Well since union workers are tax payers Coldwarrior why don't you answer your own question.
While your at it perhaps you will take a run at the question posed by rulemylife.I will await your answers....

When a dam breaks,it takes more than a couple weeks,months,years to fix it.

I`m amused that a supporter of the dam breaker, is blaming the new president for the flood damage.

This is a bush mess.The President is only here to fix it.
Try to stay on topic there junior. I know its hard, but its alot like coloring in the lines.
with  a little practice perhaps you can maintain focus.

Umm,it was an analogy...An example of something similar to demonstrate a point...

It wasn`t about a dam,water or flood damage.

K?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It almost sounds like you`re rooting against America.
You seem to be cheering bad news.That`s as disgusting as trying to blame the President for bush`s damage.
If you were Hugo Chavez,one could understand your freudenschade comments toward Amarica.
Just who`s side are you on here?!
His posts have substance to them, mike. He doesn't go around constantly degrading and nit-picking and nagging other collarme posters...
It would be nice if you could learn a thing or two from him.
It would seem it is more important for ColdWarrior and others to be able to say "told you so" than for President Obama to have any success in cleaning up the mess he inherited.
As for learning something from him....I think not.
~FR~
At what point is the President going to be judged on just what he does, rather than compared to Bush (who was horrible). Isn't it kind of like comparing something and saying "well it is not as bad as cancer."?
So what are the thoughts on The President doing this? O59? Any other Dem want to comment on what appears to be favoritism of supporters, kind of similar to how many President before handled things.
Deflection? Isn't that the focus, I think the President said it should be the ONLY focus, of his intentions.
Well yeah, he has the most uneviable job in history cleaning up the mess left by  the most incompetent leader in history.
  I don't see why its so important of a distinction to say it came from his "dying days".
Once again, that's not what were talking about.
  It was President Bush's stimulus that is the model being followed by President Obama. If it were a bad idea or wrong - wouldn't he, and Congress, have another?
Madone*slams his head against the wall*  Were talking about his policies over his 2 terms, that's important to distinguish that because that is what has caused the mess.  Your deflecting because you won't admit that Bush was an abject failiure and a man with no arms no legs who can't see hear or speak could've done a better job thatn he did.
And as for why he is, I don't know, I can't read his mind.  Whether it's good or bad remains to be seen.  But not to blame for the situation, nor does it make it a good or bad idea.
Sanity -> RE: So much for getting the people back to work. No hopie changie SOS. (2/9/2009 6:57:31 PM)
This thread is about a Democratic president pandering to a lobbyist organization which supports Democrats exclusively, after the President promised he wouldn't pander to lobbyists - which is a fine topic for debate.
What's the last topic you threw out there mike? It seems like all you ever do is bitch and cry, almost exclusively. "WAAAH, he wants to discuss President Obama's decision to offer bids exclusively to Union shops."
Gaa, there are crying towels in the lobby - the Moderator told me so. Go grab one, and use it.
Your posts are just petty, insulting, empty immature rhetoric, and they're not half of what the posts are that you try to tear down.
Owner59 -> RE: So much for getting the people back to work. No hopie changie SOS. (2/9/2009 7:13:28 PM)
Orion,
Why don`t you answer your own question.
What amount of time do you think is fair?
Does one get blamed for the water rushing through the breach, just weeks after taking over from the breach maker?
In general,most presidents get a year or more,if there`s shit going on.If things are improving(like under Clinton),this subject isn`t even on the radar.
bush got a decent economy and left it a wreck,started a war,got 4000 plus GIs killed and stranded our army in Iraq and flubbed Afghanistan.
He got a pass for 9/11,got a pass for mis-leading us into a war,pretty much no media critism,...untill Katrina.
That was the watershed moment.
When Scott McClellan spilled the beans,it was over for bush`s credibility.
I`m I wrong or do I see people insisting that we treat Obama as if he`s also a liar,just to be fair?
Is it suggested that Obama also be taken to have no credibility (as bush doesn`t),just to be or seem even handed?
That`s not how it works.
Even with healthy skepticism,don`t we all give every person a clean slate and believe them,at least until they demonstrate dis-honesty?
This is about bush and neo-conservatives and transcends left/right politics.
Good question.But the answer is as easy to predict as public opinion is.
slaveboy291 -> RE: So much for getting the people back to work. No hopie changie SOS. (2/9/2009 7:27:19 PM)
How long has he been in office?  Shouldn't you wait at least 3-6 months before getting out the pitchforks and torches?
